Guess there is some value to jokes from time to time. Missed your comments as well Chief.

Don't know if I should carry on or not but the hair and Willie Nelson sort of go together. He said 'See that sparrow flying in the cloud looking for a patch of sun--and so am I. I live one day at time and dream one dream at a time.' And so do I.

Some things I just got out of the habit of like TV, and I don't want to stay in town long enough to go to the barber. Maybe I should joint this century sometime--maybe not.

I tend to take my truths more from songs and books than the nightly news these days. At least the people who write novels know they're professional liars--that's why it's called fiction. My truths are more like Joe Ely 'If you find yourself in a hole then you've got to dig. Give me a shovel and I'll dig all night.' Or from a Canadian song 'When you need water under the bridge you can't rush the river.' Can't remember the singer but the song lives on.

Enough of my truths for a day. Ignore me--I'm just avoiding getting ready to go to a dang meeting.

Your comments are confusing as a RFM will not do as well on uneven ground unless you are using the chains as opposed to the rigid toplink. Most mmmm have anti-scalp rollers on the front. From all of the dealers that I talked to and other people, they all agreed that you get a better cut with a mmm.
If you have the room and arm trying to mow close to items then go with the RFM. It is easier to take off thus the maintenance on it is a lot easier. Plus you won't risk damaging it while doing other work such as loader work.

The engine power in the BX series tractors is a good balance between size and weight. If they had any more power packed into that small of a package, they would become dangerous. People tend to expect more out of CUTs and Sub-CUTS than they were designed for. Relax and go a little slower. It will give your lawn a better finish cut anyway.

The PTO hp on a BX1500 is listed at 10.6, however if you were careful not to overload the engine, you could probably use implements rated up to 15 hp. Just keep in mind that the engineers at Kubota have good reasons behind their numbers.

Techs can use dealer support too. It helps to have repair manuals for specs, procedures and special tools, and also parts manuals if parts have to be ordered. Having manuals is good for most owners and would simplify the work for a tech that wasn't working in a Long dealership as well.

I don't know either. I don't change implements all that often and I get by with a pry-bar to lever implements around. Sometimes I dig in the loader bucket, connect one lower link and then use the loader bucket to move the tractor a few inches, which tends to square up the implement. I do have a crank 3ph leveler that makes things a bit easier.

There are a few other tricks and all with some safety issues I suppose but they're good enough so I've never thought about telescoping link arms seriously.

Brokenarrow; yes business is booming, I just read an article written by an auctioneer who conducts auctions over a large part if the upper midwest. One of his comments was that CUT"S are the hottest selling item in the auction busines. Congrads on the new tractor, you'll love it. Good thing you got the tractor before the college bills start rolling in, We put four out of five kids thru, the last one was ten years ago, I'd hate to imagine what tuition rates must be now. Frank.

When my Ford is sometimes hard to disengage I lift up the front wheels with the loader. Back and forth is good too.

To disengage, the pedal should be fully depressed. If the clutch pedal has more than around an inch of free-travel at the top then the clutch might be dragging, which also would make the 4wd hard to disengage. An unmatched set of after-market tires or wrong tire pressures also can add to the problem.

My 1st "bike" was a bike..a Whizzer, 3hp..would do 41mph (clocked)but needed rod bearing changes at every oil change. We had a club of 4 Whizzer owners called the "Rod Benders". The motto was "we hear you knockin' but you can't come out"..referring to the rod knock which meant an oil change was due. The expensive $25 needle bearing crank cured the issue...but who could afford one in 1956??

Anyway..it's been a little tense in the kitchen the last couple of days. Wifee isn't at all enthusiastic about her 60yo hubby getting back into bikes. She thinks it's dangerous (didn't 15 years ago). Well, when it's time to NOT do something for that reason when we did years ago..I guess it's time to feel old and watch T.V...Me..I'm just about at the point of riding her home (the bike).

My dealer told me that they quit making the W650 in 2002 and this was the last one. They sold well in Europe but not here. That inspired me to get a 1st right of refusal...which is what I did with my 2210..which is sitting here in the garage...ominious.

We went to a motorcycle show in Colchester, England 3 years ago and I absolutely went nutz! I found about every old Limey bike known to man for sale. Of particular interest was a BSA 500 Gold Star for.....$850US!! in pristine condition! (never mind the AJS's, Nortons, Ariels, Triumphs, Matchless's..etc.) I REALLY struggled with that one and tried to find a way to store it and get it shipped home..BUT.."that look" wifee was giving me was foreboding...hence..no Gold Star.

Well..tommorrow is a test ride. I'm sure there's more to follow. My nieghbor offered to bunk me in his hanger..along with the bike...comforting.

It is real hard to figure. I would cut my spread to 8-9 feet (nobody drives near the ditch and some will run out there anyway)

So at 10'x1600' you have 16,000 sq ft = 593 sq yards. Again application: .5# persq yd = 300# or 1-1.5# per sq yd = 600-900#.

Mostly it will be trial and error based on the road pack (loose sandy or tight clay) and what your needs are.

You could also check with your local road supervisor for his thoughts they usually have good knowledge of roads.

Also you could use rock salt. It does not last as long or get as wet but it is a little cheaper.

Looking to buy a tractor soon to maintain 10 acres, gravel driveway, snow removal, tree & rock moval/removal, bushhogging and mowing. Looking at the JD 4210 and the New Holland TC35d. At a loss as what to purchase. Both are at $19000 (that is what I have to spend) with loader and bushhog, hydro tranny and 4 wheel drive. CAn anyone give me thier opinions on these two tractors? Do they have similar longevity?

Oneace. you didn't come across bad. I think I was just frustrated with trying to understand all the difference between what I have read, what I have been told by dealers and what I have seen here. I think it is pretty safe to say of all the information I have gathered and used, the most reliable has always come from here ( The actual users of Tractors ) Gee imagine that.

I have been looking at the factory brush guard that NH makes for my tractor and I would like input and opinions about it from other users.<br>
I have a 60 inch medium duty Hawkline rotary cutter and have been thinning out some small trees, up to 2" diameter, brush and multifloral rose bushes.<br>
My biggest concern is poking a hole through the radiator.<br>
The factory guard only has a few cross braces and nothing between them, would this be a problem?<br>
Are there any company's that make after market guards with heavy expanded metal for more protection from limbs?<br>
Any input would be appreicated.

Kobota uses more aluminum for the castings than other manufactures. They tend not to use the standard 3 main castings to carry the load of the tractor using a steel sub frame between the front and rear of the tractor.
There are pros and cons to this as most modern backhoes use these frames to reduce the load on the main castings. Naturally it is more difficult to repair a clutch for example.
Do to the reduced mass the wheels and rims etc are reduced further contributing to the lower mass.
I suspect that the engines are on a weight diet also but can not find any weight factors for the engines to compare.

I must respectfully disagree.

The BX will be perfect for the jobs you have outlined. It would make no sense to me to double the price of the T/L/B just to get a wider bucket.

I just pulled a large cottonwood stump two days ago with my 4115, which is in the same power class as the BX.

The key is to be smarter than the stump. If gale force winds can't uproot the tree than you aren't going to jerk it out of the ground with a small tractor.

I dug a 7-8 foot circle around it about 2 feet deep. In the process I located a strong, thick root-branch and cut it about 3-4 feet from the main stem.

When I had a nice "moat" around the tree and all the roots I could see clipped, I latched unto the biggest root branch with a chain and used the tractor to twist it from 2 o'clock to about 6:30. Then I took a new angle and pulled it to about 9:00. That is a force mother nature does not apply to tree roots and after three pulls it was ready to come up and out of the ground.

The BX23 is a great value and is perfect for smoother lots under 5 acres.
