I need a tooth bar for my new 790, should I go to a tractor store, or order one online, which is the best, I only want one to last, and what should I expect to pay. My fel is 60 inches. Please help. thanks, Herb

Your'e right in that it would act like you say. But one of the teeth were broken. There are 6 teeth and the one that held my brakes were broken off. It almost looks like that piece is made out of pot metal and the teeth are pretty small. I'll get it replaced under warranty but if it was out of warranty I think I'd make something a little heavier than the standard issue.

It may not even be hydraulic fluid, as tractors have a way of holding water from being washed or run during a rain. Here is a simple and safe test, it is by no means conclusive, however, it is easy and painless to do. Blot the wet fluid up from the floor with a clean white cloth (cotton), take out the hydraulic dip stick and touch the wet potion of the stick to the same cloth, next to the fluid botted from the floor. Do the two marks made by the fluid look the same? Are they oily to the touch? Are they fairly clear - no carbon staining as in engine oil? Then you probably have a hydraulic leak. As Ken said, approach with caution.

Snog, your loader control valve assembly has two spools, a single lever operates both through a linkage. Examine the linkage free from the spools by removing the two clevis pins that connect the linkage to the spool. If the linkage is free of kinks or binding, the problem is in one of the spools.

There are two tiny ball bearings on the loader boom (arm) raise/lower spool piston. These provide the "detent" or friction that holds the boom in float, as Tom said. If one or both of these tiny ball bearings has come out of position you will have a binding action that will keep the spool from working properly.

Disassembly of the spool is not for the weak of heart, there are springs that can fly if you aren't careful. Best to leave this issue to the dealer, especially if your machine is under warranty.

Jerry..that was the problem. Something always needed fixing. My Triumph seemed to break chains regularly and once the chain wrapped around the rear axle locking the wheel. Fortunately, I kept it upright to a stop. Never did figure out what was causing the problem...then there's the "electrics by Lucas" syndrome, or the "tickle me Amal" carbs.

I am lucky, because I almost bought the B7800, but the night before, my Dad called with a flyer regarding the L3400 for a small amount more. I am so glad I found this model because every time I look at the B7800 it looks smaller and smaller.

I just got my 72" tiller and what a fantastic unit it is!!!<br>
Mark Carter was very helpful, the unit is very well made, the price was really terrific(much less than any comparable unit out there), and boy does this thing do the job!!<br>
If the Kuhn unit I used last year was a Chevrolet then this thing is a Rolls Royce!!!<br>

First make sure the direction is right and then use an impact wrench. I tried for a half a day to get the blades off of a Landpride mower without any success. I drove the tractor over to a local garage and borrowed their impact wrench. It took maybe 2 minutes to take the 3 old blades off and install the new ones.

I do have an impact wrench now.

I get a catalog from a place called Agri-supply, they are on teh internet also but I don't know the address. I have noticed in the catalog that they have at least 7.234 million blades for mowers in there.

I have turfs so my pressures aren't what is asked. I believe that the rear pressures are very low for most R4's. I've heard of radial R4's but most have stiff side walls and low pressures can cause the beads to break off the rims, which really isn't good if they're tubeless.

There are some downsides to running excessively high front pressures. Most tires have load tables and I'd estimate the load and use the pressures indicated.

When using the rear blade on a box scraper it's good to avoid hitting anything--especially off centre. 3ph's are much stronger pulling than pushing things. In a story from another board a few years back a person broke off a lower arm mount while using the rear cutter like a dozer. If I recall, it took out a chunk of the cases. It's more common to head of bent lower link arms.<br>

I'd try my box on small stumps if I had a need because that's what I have and it'd be faster than my hoe if it worked. I wouldn't take a run at anything or push while turning though.<br>

Another thought: Stop by your local dog groomer and get a bag of dog hair mix it in with the mulch. It is suspose to work. But I can not say for certain.

I imagine that a slip clutch adjusted right also would make a pto clutch last longer, which would be a lot less expensive. Some limitation of power isn't such a bad thing and big cutters do blow pto clutches.

A little more detail is that I believe that it's a good idea to not repeatedly break shear pins. I assume that virtually all shafts have them. I've heard that over time the pin holes can become dished and then the pins don't break instantaneously, nor do they if the pin bolts aren't tight. I also grease mine every year--I don't break many but well then there is my auger.

It sounds more like a rock bruise. Which damages the innercords and if steel belted a wire gets broken from it and could puncture the inner liner.

Propane in tires? Big deal those little tanks work good for portable air tanks and that was/is what they are used for in many places. Especially when they changed the styles of valves.

The reason I say big deal. We have a whole discussion about filling tires with windshield washer fluid. Alcohol! DUH!

Sounds like a good outcome and there's been decent comments all around. Maybe we've all learned something. For myself I might have guessed that hooking a charger across several batteries in parallel would increase the charge time but not the load on the charger if I though about it. It didn't occur to me at the time and now I know. It makes a lot of sense that chargers would be designed to limit current at low load resistance.

The loader valve seems a good bet but I'm not certain it's a sure bet. If it comes to replacing the valve a PB valve assembly with a float feature on one valve would be standard. There are a few more features available that might be of interest. First might be an extra control valve section for a rear outlet. A control valve with a regenerative feature for fast dump also might good. There are a few other features a shop would know about.<br>

I'm still curious about the hook-up. I haven't heard of a pump itself that has two outlets although that doesn't mean much. There's no reason why a diverter or other valve couldn't be built onto the pump body. My Ford pump does have a priority valve that runs the power steering built onto the pump and that may seem like a second outlet. There's almost certainly something more than just a second outlet.<br>

A second curiosity is whether the loader valve has one or two outlet lines? If it has two it's a PB valve and one line likely runs directly to the cases. The other would return somehow to the high-pressure line that feeds the 3ph. I'm curious where the second line or a single return line goes. <br>

Another part of your description is that the loader lowers slowly. I wonder if it lifts slowly and the bucket also is affected. Slow lowering could result from damage to the valve that partially obstructs the return side of the lower circuit (assuming that it has double acting cyinders). It could also result from an obstructed feed to the loader from this 'auxiliary port' that likely has valving that hasn't been identified. <br>

It's important to know if a relief valve squeal is present. There also are some simple checks that could be done such as reversing the cylinder lines on the lift valve and swapping the bucket and lift cylinder lines. I'm not sure the info would be of much value to you though.
