I'm looking at a JD implement compatibility chart that says the 550, 660, and 770 tillers are I-Match compatible. Although not all Frontier implements are I-Match compatible the mostpopular ones are.

I hadn't changed the hydraulic oil since the first 50 hour service, so it was time. It has always been a rule to drop the hitch before turning the hitch off, however not too long ago, I forgot while trailering to a jobsite and had the weight box on. Hopefully that wouldn't have caused it though.

I think you got a GREAT deal. I have over 1900 hours on my 1994 JD 445 and it still runs like a champ. You have alot of hours left on that machine. Change the oil and filter on a routine basis and take of it in general and it will last you for a long time.

Are you sure both decks are 10 gauge? I tried to look it up on the JD site, but when you asked for specs it would post unavalible. I thought I remember reading that the two decks where diferant gauge, but together where thicker than the Woods 10. That was a couple years ago. Mabe they're making them even thicker now. My deck being 10 gauge is supper tough. I've chewed up big chunks of wood and hit big rocks that banged around inside (not just a few times) and not a dent can be seen.

Jonathan, we often have lots of stumps to clear from scrub when building out a new golf course.

We made up a two-toothed claw for doing it, it's sort of like a big middle buster with a siamese twin. It goes on the BH in place of the bucket. There is a gap of 4" between the two teeth and it is used in conjunction with a thumb attachment also. It basically works like a big steel hand to pull them from the ground.

I'm sure you could accomplish much the same thing with two fingers cut out of thick steel plate and hooked to the 3pth. A hydraulic toplink would make it work even better. Drive into the stump with the impliment digging into the ground, on contact lift and rotate (hopefully) flipping the stump up out of the ground.

A couple of my staff were ticked we didn't get one hat for each machine we bought, ie. one hat for each operator.

They're a clever bunch of lads though.

So when they went into the JD booth at the big equipment show in Toronto this winter they commented that they got ripped off for their hats, so the JD people gave them each a nice green hat. They then headed straight for the Kubota booth and walked in 'en mass' in those nice new GREEN hats.

In mere seconds each of them was presented with a nice new suede and canvas Kubota hat and matching golf shirt!!!

Hmmm, me thinks they pay a little too much attention to my sneakiness sometimes.......

I guess my original question was pretty vague. Do I go with a B7800 because it has HST, or the L3400 because it is a larger framed tractor. I want a larger tractor due to the fact that every time I look at the B7800 it looks smaller and smaller. I have 40 acres and a 250ft driveway. I know I will kick myself in a year if I find my tractor is too small. The L3400 has a standard transmission which I don't have a problem with, I realize it is a bit more to work with, but that is the only option it comes with.(can't spend any more on a tractor)

well guys the new tractor has a whopping 12 hours on it.I have experienced a vibration at low speeds when the 3 point hitch is raised all the way up. when I lower it a couple of inches and pick up speed it is gone. is the normal? other wise it hhas tackeled with great success every thing i have thrown at her! roboha

Dear Broken, you did the right thing. About your dad, I've been there and know how it eats at the mind. You find yourself preoccupied almost all of the day, and when the mind gets weary it is like there isn't any power left to make even simple decisions. Here is one clue.... the 4115 has 24 gross and 20 pto(mowing) horsepower. The comparable Kubota requires a 27 hp engine to produce 20 at the pto.

My guess is that the three speed hst on the 'bota soaks up more ponies than the two speed hst on the 4115.

Also.... the turning radius is largely dependant on the wheelbase. Tractors with similar wheelbases and widths will have similar turning radius. The exception would be the super steer feature offered by NH.

If you have any more technical questions on the 4115 I can look it up in my manuals.

I bought my my L3400, FEL, 4wd with Ind. tires= $15,700 about 1 month ago and it is my first tractor. I am a big researcher when it comes to a major purchase, so I had done my homework. A couple of things I considered:

1) Price to performance ratio. Hst's are nice if your on the tractor alot, but $1000-2000 more just didn't make sense for me. The 3400 is a straight forward tractor like my dodge p/u with the Cummins-- it just works.

2) My use of the tractor; I have five acres of land that I intend to build a home on in the future so I need to keep it mowed and I've already done some clearing and dirt work (pushed down some yaupons and put in a culvert). I'll also disc the land and box blade soon. This is plenty of tractor for these chores.

3) Reputation: I can't find anything bad on Kubota and my personal experience is the same; in fact I hate getting off of the thing when the sun goes down. Shuttle shift is nice, 463 loader works great, power is good, it's smooth, uses very little diesel--I love my decision.

Here is my anal-ysis. The tire is made of a carcass, which acts like a pressure vessel, and a slab of tread, which is bonded, vulcanized to the carcass.

If you run over a nail, it pierces both layers and the pressure escapes to the outside. But when you get a flaw in the carcass that leaks under the tread section it will do exactly PaulPrince described. Since the tread section contains no cords or belts to reinforce it.... it blows off in big chunks.

Another scenario would have a bubble of poorly bonded tread rubbing/chaffing a hole in the carcass with the same results.

When you see those big chunks of tread lying in the road, this is what got them there.

Wildman, I think there are lots of guys like me who at one time were "in to" flying in one way or another but for whatever reason never continued. If we can't experience it firsthand we can at least feel it through guys who have.

Why don't you just start by making an outline of various experiences and then start to fill in the details. Take each story separately and you won't have to worry about the whole thing at once. I have not done any popular writing but I have written a fair number of scientific papers and I would think that some of the process should be similar. I can't spell and my grammar is straight out of the back woods so I really have to depend on others to give me feedback.

Unlike my writing, however, you would have to be interesting. :-)
