Just a follow up, my local Bush Hog dealer delivered a 286 "Brush Hog" last night, I haven't used it much yet, but 2" locust saplings didn't stand a chance. Without a FEL on my TC45D (yet), it is a LOT of weight on the back, and transporting it up a hill proved to be scary. I have a couple weights on the front right now, and may have to consider filling my front tires until I get the loader.

You may want to try a middle-buster before working with the box blade. They are very useful for breaking up hard ground, and can generally dig 8 to 10" without any trouble. If you hit a fair sized rock with the middle buster, it won't jar you out of the seat, as it tends to push material up or over. I have used a middle buster to dig sprinkler lines and it does a great job, even on a lawn. It rolls the sod back evenly enough to replace after the pipe is layed.

Because of the way the blade if formed, it doesn't require excessive weight to dig. The blade is formed to dig it's way down as you move forward. This makes it a little easier on the tractor than dragging around a lot of weight. You will definitely want to grade with a box blade after working the soil with the Middle-Buster, but I think you will find it a good way to loosen up and bring the rocks to the surface.

Ground speed has a lot to do with HP requirements. Manufacturer HP recommendations in part are judgments about the minimum speeds acceptable to owners. Could be that the JD recommendations are based on slower ground speeds.

The blade tip speeds also could be lower. Leveling of the deck also affects HP requirements. Slightly down in front takes less HP but also gives less mulching action. Perhaps other manufacturer recommendations contain an allowance for different leveling. There are a bunch of possible explanations.

I need some experienced suggestions. I bought a 5030 to move(feed) round bales. The loader specs were used by the Kubota dealer to approve my work on the 1200-1500 pound bales. However, the 5030 is too light. If I pick up a bale on the 3 pt rear spear then pick up a forward bale, there is enough counterbalance. Is this too much to ask for this 4000# tractor's steel over the long term? Should I take it back and order a 100hp M series? I don't think adding weights on the tire will be enough. Exasperated!

Yes, sort of sounds like mystery solved. My fault in part since I went for the loader problem to start with. It was the more interesting of the two descriptions and I always like a mystery.

Good it's getting fixed under warranty. Outside of warranty, if big weight is left up for long periods it likely takes some life out of the system--not saying that's the practice though. Hope it was getting close to oil change time anyway or it had been a few years. Changing oil usually is a good idea every few years especially in cold climates even if it's only been used for few hours. I think owner's manuals specify oil changes only in terms of operating hours. For that matter I don't think manuals say that it's good to change coolant every two years in diesels.

I'd go for the defective tire idea. Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is a bit over 14 psi so that's the greatest increase possible due to altitude change and the tractor wasn't in the stratosphere although some might think of prices and say they are pretty high. Even if the tires were left at pressures used to set the beads I wouldn't expect them to explode due to a few thousand-foot change in elevation. I think you'd get greater pressure increases on tractors left siting in the sun on hot days.

Altitude does make a difference. I remember my uncle disappearing into a cloud of instant coffee power when he opened a new jar at around 8,000'. None of us exploded during altitude school at 43,000' although we weren't exactly closed systems either. Well, if noise could be made at that altitude we sure would have made a bunch of it.

My "Poor mans" Loader. I have used it to move mulch and much dirt. I own a Christmas Tree farm and I used it to fill in tree spade holes. I would drive over the holes and dump the bucket. It has been very affective. I have moved alot of material in a short time. It is not as easy or effective as a loader obviuosly, for $245 I won't complain. From Northern Hydraulic& Tool.

Road "ROAD" work is figures in sq yards. It will depend on how heavy of a coverage you want.

Figure lenght X Width X gals per yd.

Depending on what your drive is and how you mix will determine your application rate.

Generally for light dust control .25 to .50 gals per yd should be enough. Much more or a really tight base and it runs off into the ditch.

Anyway it gives you a starting point.

Shortmagnum...actually, My wife & I have discussed writing a book. We didn't have any children so devoted our lives to adventure. I really believe that if I devoted myself to chronicling our exploits it would make an interesting read. And..those paragraphs tended to go along the lines of our history. I just typed away as I thought back...And..I'm no Earnest K. Gann. (High & the Mighty..Fate is the Hunter), though, I did meet him once..at a Q.B.(Quiet Birdmen) meeting in Seattle.

im torn between buying an mf 1428 for $11000 or a cub cadet 2003 7305 for $ 11000. the cadet has the mitsubishi engine in it and its seat ,lights and small parts seem to be better quality, it also scares me to read in this forum some of problems people are having with mf,s but i like what ive seen in the mf and the service from the dealer where i live is 100%. ive seen and talked to my cadet dealer 3 times now and still cant get a price on a loader from the guy. how do these tractors stack up againt eachother?

I am the proud owner of a DF354 with a Koyker 160 FEL. It is one of the best investments I have ever made. The tractor is made by the DFAM group in China. I have found that, like the Jinma, it is marketed under several names. Terraplane, DF, Taskmaster, Diesel Force and Noriker in Canada are some that I have come across. I have not needed very many parts in almost 200 hours of use. The parts I did need have been very easy to get. At the most a two day wait for shipping. I went with the DF over the Jinma and Kama for several reasons. The DF had heavier duty axels than the Jinma and was geared slower. My neighbor has the 304 Jinma and its ground speed in one-low is too fast for a tiller. The Kama had better ground clearance in the rear end but with that ground clearance comes a higher center of gravity. I have hills that I need to keep the center of gravity as low as possible on. The only thing I wish my tractor had was R4 tires. I see that Terraplane now sells the DF with R4 tires. I read an article on the internet recently that Cummins had aquired a stake in DongFeng and that it will be known as DongFeng Cummins. I have not been able to verify this. there is really no way to change the setting of the relief valve on the 16la loader, well there is but im not saying how because you will void your warrenty as soon as you touch the control valve with a wrench. as far as lifting too much you will be able to tell as soon as you start to lift the bucket off the ground you caen "feel" the tractor getting light in the rear. <br>
p.s. nh relief valves are no longer adjustable they are factory preset.
