Because I use my stuff commercially, there has to be a certian level of "perpectable quality". When I show up at a client's home they don't want to see junky-looking, home-made equipment (I know the flak I used to get about an 18-year-old skidloader and 60-year old Fordson I used--both looked great but they were percieved as being old and not only that, when I'm charging $100 an hour the client needs to feel their money is going back into the biz. Bottom line: Sold the skidloader and the Fordson and bought a '02 NH TC33D and a '03 NH LS180 skidloader. Now that "wows" them (and it makes me feel a little better too : ) ).

Sorry I can't help with you question but there's a good chance somebody here knows the answer. I would check the fluid to see that's it's not overfilled.

For myself, I don't think it's a good idea to do even simple appearing tear-downs without a repair manual. For example, in my Ford manual there's a warning about taking off the transmission top-cover. Part of the safety switch can drop off and into the TX, where it would be a big problem to retrieve. I wouldn't know that except for the manual.

You're likely looking at a gasket rather than a seal. Most times I've ended up tearing gaskets when taking things apart so I'd want a new one on hand for a tear-down. The trick to getting gaskets to seal is very clean mounting surfaces. I use grease but there are special sealers.

I have a John Deere 1050 and I think the hydraulic pressure relief valve is weak. I was wondering if anyone knows where it is located? It has the seperate pack with the levers for the loader control. Is there a relief valve in the pack or is it off the tractor somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

AV8R: What I should have said right off last night is that most everybody makes things worse the first few times. You're not alone. My wife dreaded to see me headed for the drive the first summer I had the tractor. It does get better and almost everybody eventually gets good results with whatever they have. There seems to be a steep learning curve for this grading buz. Just keep at it and one day you'll notice the work is going well and you'll wonder what you're doing differently.

Box scrapers are what I know and with those, the blade angle is everything in controlling the action, which is why hydraulic top-links are so useful. With a scraper the cut becomes more aggressive as the top-link is shortened. I don't know if blades work the same but I'd experiment with blade angles.

There sure should be some angle where the blade won't bite. I don't know if the top-link is the only angle adjustment on the blade you're using and I don't know if the blade can be turned around and used backwards. I know that blades used for smoothing washboard are sometimes angled so the blade doesn't fall into each dip. It tends to cut off the ridges and fill the dips.

I really have tried to stay away from picking brands. I'll have to side with the 4310/ 430 loader/ rear blower combo. The big three Orange, Blue, and Green all build quality equipment. One of your main deciding factors should be the dealership reputation where you buy, that will make or break your enjoyment of your new tractor. The absolute lowest price isn't allways the best choice, you can save lots of bucks by going with a little known import that has a scanty dealer orginazation, that can leave you with an orphan down the road. My Dad allways said " Quality is like buying oats, they come a lot cheaper after they've been thru the horse". Welcome to the world of compacts, you'll love it. Frank.

Brokenarrow, being in the "Geezer" crowd now makes it harder to accept change I Guess. When I traded my 02 Chevy pickup for the 04 I said I just traded the nicest looking pickup I ever saw for the uglyest pickup I ever saw. I told the salesman the grille on that 04 is so ugly only a mother could love it, but as time has moved along I don't even notice now. Enjoy your day, Frank.

Well water thats got 28 GPG of mostly calcium. Five years ago, during a weak moment, we tried a set of those high strength magnets that clamp onto your pipes. Still using them today. Still on our original heater element, coffeemaker and plenty of suds. We do have some signs of hard water left on the sinks and shower but they are no worse than when we had city water from a reservor.
My neighbor is on his third heater element and he has a conventional softener that he keeps on a low setting because he needs to watch is sodium intake.
Do the magnets work, maybe, maybe not. Its hard to tell because supposedly they dont take anything out of the water. They change the structure of the calcium so that it doesnt collect on stuff, it just flows on through. I didnt really believe that it would work but Im a K.I.S.S. kinda guy so I figured what the heck.
I will say that, as advertised, right after we installed them, large amounts of calcium came through our system for about a week or so. Enough that I had to clean the sink screens out every couple of days. The instructions said this would happen as the previously built up calcium was dislodged.
I know its hard to believe and to this day, I dont recommend them to anyone. I do tell my experience, but I wont recommend them because its just too farfetched for me to believe these magnets actually work. Its like thinking youve seen a UFO but your ashamed to tell anyone.
Does anyone have any scientific basis to think this would or would not work?

We've had 120"+ snow to date. I went out back to clear a path to the shed with the blower. I didn't want to scrape the grass so thought I was running about 2" off the ground. Actually..I was about 1' off the ground on a crust layer. Well..the tractor suddenly dropped through the crust and the tires were airborn and just turning. 2 hours later, after digging, we used a come-along hooked to a tree and gradually winched her out. <br>

I should have used the FEL. I did consider waiting for spring to melt her out, that's how bad it looked.

The most I've pulled with my Cherokee is about 3500lbs without any trailer brakes, on a single axle trailer. It did good except for the brakes. The engine was plenty strong. The wheelbase isnt bad but the Cherokee's weight is a little low and the brakes just arent up to it. <br>
For very occational use, the short distance you are talking about, keeping the speed below 50MPH and pulling a trailer with electric brakes, I would think you would be fine if you really give yourself lots of reaction space. I think with everything added up, you will be pulling almost twice the little Cherokee's weight. The Cherokee is a lightweight and will be pushed all over the place without trailer brakes and dont tkae it on the highway and up to speed. If something unexpected happens, it will get out of hand real quick and you will be along for the ride.<br>

Oh yea, where did you read that your towing capacity is 6000? I think mine is only 5000 and that is with load leveling. Its 3500 otherwise.<br>

Edit: Yep, I got curious and looked it up. I can tow 5000 with min. 10% tongue weight(500), but the most tongue weight I can have without load leveling is 350. At the required minimum tongue weight of 10%, thats 3500 max trailer weight.

I have a 2003 4.8 4x4 entended cab that is used to pull a 16 Ft trailer with tractor and brushhog around the hills of WV. It does a good job. I only need to pull the trailer 6-8 times a year so I could not justify the extra cash for the duramax. I agree that if money is no object, go for the diesel motor and allison trans. A buddy of mine found a used 2000 6.0 gas extended cab 4x4 for a very nice price last year and he gets 15-16 MPG with it.

There's another model you have not mentioned...the JD 970. I just bought a used one with MFWD for $9,000. It's a 1998 and had just a 1,000 hours on it. I fitted it with a 430 FEL, rock rake, box blade, rear blade, and LX5 rotary cutter. It has a bit more horses than the 790. I've been tickled to death with it. I note that Machinefinder has a few of them from time to time.

The prices are getting better everytime I talk to the dealers. There must be about 5 dealers within an hour. The first started in the 13's. As just started mentioning that I was shopping around just trying to get the best price and bang down came the prices...

I have the same combination of equipment and mine seems to cut very well for this size deck, even though I have very uneven ground in some places. The only way I think I might get a better cut would be with a narrower deck because of the uneven ground. Your neighbors Craftsman probably has a 48" and maybe that's the difference. Reading most of the BX2200 posts on this forum, I haven't seen too many that don't like the cut of theirs. Maybe you don't have the RPM's up high enough. I was doing this at first until I found out different. Hope you get it worked out. It is a nice machine.

Curious if anyone knows what price should be on a 1999 JD 5210 MFWD with 320 hours.<br>
options include Curtis Cab, 540 loader, 7 foot loftness blower, Brand new Rhino Post hole, 613 BushHog, and JD 65 backblade. any thoughts on this package would be appreciated.
