I want to purchase a new JD. I have been looking at the 4210 & 4310 models and R3 tires and the following attachments, 71�MMM, 430 loader and the 47� backhoe. The base prices are just about the same give or take $1000. We are moving into a new home with 4 1/2 acres. The primary role or the tractor will be for mowing 3 1/2 acers, secondary will be for snow removal for the 300ft driveway and landscaping the new home and third for my motocross track maintenance. I do not want to buy too big or to small of a tractor, but the dealer also recommended the JD 4115. I have gotten a couple of quotes for all three of the tractors an it looks to be from the mid $20,000 for the 4115 to $30,000 for 4210 or 4310. Will the 4210, 4310 be too big or will the 4115 do it? Need some advise??

If it is like my B6100E the turn to the left is for the glow plugs. Hold for 0-30 seconds unless it is real cold. There should be a view port above the switch where you can see a wire coil that will start to glow, then turn to the right to start. I usaually give it about a quarter throttle then pull it back to idle after it starts.

The lever can't be pulled back to raise the arms. The bucket tilts, and the fluid level is OK. Almost felt like a click as if it went to far however it was working fine all day.

I couldn't agree more. I'm subject to codes and inspections and have done all my own work. I actually like the inspectors I've worked with.

Kully's point about insurance companies is a very good one. After we finally managed to have 500 gallons of waste oil left courtesy of a previous owner disposed of my insurance broker said: 'You know that if there had been a spill there wouldn't have been any coverage.' I said 'No, do tell.' She said insurance companies have a policy that insurance is to cover accidents and something that can be reasonably foreseen isn't an accident. That was quite an awakening but insurance in other areas may not be the same.

For electrical there is a National Code and 'code simplified' books are readily available. I think that sticking with codes is a good idea irrespective of what can be done or isn't required.

Wanted to let you know that it is starting and running much better, but it is getting warmer, too. Up to 25 this morning. Starts without much issue, and seems to be moving well, too.

Thanks for the info!! It's only been about 2/3 of a tank, but it is definitely better...

I've always thought a box is better for smoothing than a blade. I know when I finish a grade I extend the top-link so the box rides on the back of its rear cutter and the front cutter doesn't bite at all. I'm not sure a blade would swing forward enough and would probably run into the rear tires if it did.

I haven't resorted to making a drag but you might try it. Old bed springs with weight on top work I hear. Chain link fencing wrapped around a length of heavy timber also works.

Wow, $11,019 for a 2210, FEL, and 62"? MMM. The closest I could get to that was $12,800, and that dealer went out of business. The current price I can get is $13,000.

I think Harvey is right that clutches, especially in old tractors, can last almost indefinitely depending on use. I don't expect mine to go 4,000 hours though. It's probably several decades too new for those expectations.

I'm so sensitive to this clutch feathering thing that I can barely drive the township 1/2-ton with manual. It's sort of ironic since I was a late-50's hot-rodder who took great pride in spitting gears quick as a wink. Back then automatics were for kids who had to drive their dad's cars. Now I can barely get a 1/2-ton manual rolling. What's important changes, but having the attitude that a clutch is either in or out sure is going to make it last longer in a tractor and I'll take an auto in a 1/2-ton any day.

My used tractor was the right one at the right time for me and still is. If I were doing it over new from scratch I'd be more inclined toward HST. I think HST's are a better match for the work I do and I got over worrying about the extra power losses in HST's.

I've been given a price of $13,000 + Tax for the JD 2210, 62" MMM, FEL, Turf Tires in NE Ohio. I had a price of $12,800 but that dealership went bankrupt.

Hi All, After mowing for a couple of hours over the weekend I noticed a small amount of oil leaking onto the foot rest pan next to the HST operating pedal. I followed the oil leak back up through the rotational valve area to the top flange (the area above and to the left of the rotational valve with two bolts or hydraulic take-off ports on top). The oil appeared to be coming out from between this top flange and the rest of (or lower part of) the hydraulic housing - I can see what looks to me to be a seal inbetween the flange and housing. Has anyone had an oil leak from this area before and is it a simple matter to remove the top flange and replace the seal (do those two top bolts hold the top flange onto the housing?) Thankyou.

I'm guessing that the loader only lifts when the 3ph is in lift mode and with a fairly heavy than is in the loader. I wondering if it has always done that or it's a recent problem and if the bucket cult is affected?

If so it sounds like a parallel hookup in the high-pressure line, which creates a condition where the both loads will move but the lightest moves first. A hookup to the loader with a t-fitting in the high-pressure line would do that. A blown diverter valve or one in mid-position (if the tractor has one) as well as various failures in the loader valve are possibilities.

I will try. Where the bottom drag links attach to the blade. The pins on the blade are attached to main frame of the blade. The main frame is square at this point and the drag links from the BX do not quite clear the frame of the blade when it is lifted off of the ground. They rub against the frame of the blade.It does not seem to cause any problem. I think it is because the BX 3 point is not quite a full class 1 hitch size. the land pride blade is very robust. You might not find this problem with cheaper blades. I use mine to cut drainge ditches and level dirt for landscaping so that water runs where I want it to. The biggest problem that I have is keeping it from digging deeper than I want it to.

I have a Kubota BX2200 with 62 hours on it. I am very unhappy with the finish cut of the mid-mount suspended mower deck (60"). The dealer adjusted and leveled it, but my neighbor with a $1,995 Craftsman gets a better finished cut. I wish I had kept my B7200 which had a mid-mount that rolled on the ground. I am considering trading for a 7510, but that is a lot more tractor than I need. Have also looked at JD and NH, but similar sized tractors have suspended decks. I do not want to use a rear mower. Both the JD and NH dealers say their suspended decks cut better than the Kubota, but I need some objective feedback from folks in the know. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That is why I had come to general, to find out what the filter thing was all about. Also thanks for running such a great service as this board, I have probably save myself a few hundred bucks or more by signing up. I should say your members have saved me that money with all theyr'e information they have gave me.

I have a 5030 on order, dealer says I should see it by the end of April. I chose the 5030 because we are swinging a large and heavy mower and need a loader that can deal with the concrete clay soil we have on the Central Coast of Calif. I would also like to hear from anyone who may already own this unit.

Just had to chime in with a recent story from last week at work. My boss who seems to have done everything LOL in his past life and who is as cheap as they come bought everything we need to weld alum. with our wire feed welder.<br>
Sounds ok except only one tool maker has any real experiance with Alum. welding. (now for a rip on me,) My biggest problem used to be flipping the helmet down and stiking an arc, no laughing, I am a tool and die maker not a profesional welder! Most of us weld good enough to get by and a few of us had been certified (at one time)me being one of them but that was over 12 years ago at anouther place and time. Anyway, I told him to buy us a few flash helmets and he almost freaked a few years ago!!! WE NEVER HAD(or needed) THOSE!!! he said as he handed me a $69. flash helmet. LOL. That same day I spent an hour fixing the pivot that broke. It has never worked right at all but beggers cant be choosers and my other option is buying my own. (I have to buy all mu own tools and not welding helmets so that is not going to happen) Last week he was totally amazed that no one could get a decent alum. weld except for one guy. He said to all of us, "why can he weld good and you guys cant" LOL. With that comment I cut that guys weld apart, polished it and showed it to him. I think we ALL need training I said!!! With that he bit the bullet and asked me for my helmet!!! ROTFLMAO as I gave it too him. the first time he put it on, it hit him in the front of the neck when he moved. He fought it for 5 min. before turning to me and saying that my helmet stunk! LOL. Then he took anouther guys and started welding, about three time he stopped. Then he took it off and said, give me an old fashion helmet, I cant see anything with this. Too bright!!! Long story shorter, after his feeble attempts at welding failed he told us to wait until he can get someone in that can fix the welder (that obviously was not working properly) and show us how to use it for Alum. (A DAH!!!) that is what started all of this, I had asked him along with anouther guy if we could get some company paid training for Alum. He had said NO WAY!!! you shouldnt need that! Its easy. <br>
I just couldnt help but tell you all my welding story. I am sure that with the right settings (and I think that is most of our problems) We can get OK with the new welder in time, but just to make sure, My buddy I work with and myself have decided to take a course at the local Tech. college this fall and then practice our butt off every chance we get. Thanks for all the helpfull advice here.<br>
