I forgot to ask above, how well will the 7800 mow compared to the 7510 and how well will they mow compared to a regular rider mower. And although I said time wasn't my main concern on getting things done, how much would the 7800 speed things up in general? Thanks a lot.

Can 2-3 extra PSI of pressure at the bottom of a tire from a high density Calcium solution cause problems? It's a free country. You make the call...

A neighbour at the cottage wandered over on Saturday morning to see what was going on when he heard my 'Bota working. He is a retired GM employee, worked there his whole life, only job he ever had. He has always been rather loud and firmly opinionated, sometimes he's even right.

He got onto the subject of my Japanese tractor, why didn't I buy North American? I replied I merely bought a good tractor, and in my opinion, the best value for the money, if it had been North American I would have bought that.

Then he said something that made me stop and think.

He said when he started working for GM in the early 1960's he was making a mere pitance, but he got into the union and his wages increase fairly quickly & did so until his retirement, and even though he's retired now his benefits still continue.

Then he commented on how times change, and even with his discount his new truck was still a LOT of money.

When I commented on how if he and his union brothers had maybe been a little less gready and settled for just a 'fair wage' and 'good' benefits, and not the most money and best benefits in the industrial WORLD maybe they wouldn't be losing so much business to them "damned foreigners" that were happy to have any job, let alone a really good job, he nearly lost it.

Then he sort of chuckled and admitted I was probably right.

When I traded my 2001, 4100 Gear last year I got $8000 trade and the dealer planned to turn it around for $9500.... it had a 410 loader, R-1's and 110 hours.

Many of the Kubota tillers sold in the USA are made by Maletti (Italy). You really need to check because a reverse tine tiller takes 25% more HP than a standard tiller of the same length. You can purchase a new 60" tiller for less than $1,000.

gdillard, I had the same thought last year, except I had to get A/C for medical reasons.

The sound-proofing and visibilty are outstanding, the A/C & stereo are nice touch. I wouldn't go back to an open-station machine now for anything. I never realized what a joy it is working on a miserable rainy in a warm de-humidified cab with the stereo on and not a care in the world, ok, maybe one or two, but no rain drops down the back of my neck.

The HEPA air filter on the ventilation system is good too, dust barely stands a chance.

Well here in the south we are 0" for the year. I saw a few flakes but nothing stayed so in my mind it was a goose egg. It has been in the 70's and 80's the last weeks. Cool today but back up to the 70's tomorrow.

Some German bombers flew in the second world war with diesel engines. Their power to weight ratio was OK for transports but not for fighter applications. The idea of a piston diesel engine was put into the backshelf by the advent of the turbine and turboshaft engines.
With Av gas getting harder to find the light aviation diesel seems to be making a come back.

StephenR, I'm in the SW part of our state, with gently rolling hills, and some flat bottom land. Some of the hills are probably 25-30 degree slopes, hence my concern with a heavier brush hog on my TC45D w/o a counterbalancing FEL. I have some front weights on my tractor, but I am sure not enough to counter a 1000# mower on the back. So until I get the FEL on the front ($$!), I'll have to be careful!

I recently went to look at a Deere 4710 and 4610. I was quoted MSRP and the dealer stated that they would not move from these prices. AS two JD dealers in the area have recently gone out of business, he has little JD competition so I am sure he can get his prices. I am not sure that he will stay in business though with comparable tractors being sold at reasonable prices.

JIVI; Most any machine shop or weld shop will have access to a supply house that will likely have a replacment yolk that will fit and can change it out just like replacing U-joint bearings as long as the U-joint size is the same. Frank.

I'll throw one more oppinion into the hat. I would tend to concur with Art, I think a BX series tractor would be adequate. However, it would not leave you much room for "growth".

There are some key benefits to the BX, smaller = more manuverable, big HP/TQ in a small package with nearly all the same basic capabilities (scaled down, of course). That's the whole idea behind the BX and also what makes it so appealing to many folks.

BTW, you won't have any trouble going into the woods or climbing slopes with a BX. I do both with my little BX1500 all the time. Just use you head and don't bury it in the mud. They are heavier than they look and MUCH heavier than your WheelHorse.

If it were my money though, I would tend to lean towards the B-series. For your purposes, it would have virtually no limitations and give you a bit of room for expansion. The deciding factor for the B-series over the BX-series would be your snow removal requirement. That's a lot of pavement to clear. A heavier tractor with bigger tires and a bigger snowblower will help tremendously.

As far as mowing goes, I wouldn't worry about quality of cut too much. The biggest factor there is deck width. The wider the deck, the lower the quality. A wider deck has less ability to follow ground contour. If your land is flat, you've got nothing to worry about. If it is extremely uneven, then overlapping passes can help overcome the limitations of a wide deck. In any case, it will be a much different experience than a WheelHorse. For the better!

Doesn't sound like a lot of satisfaction here and that's too bad. It's up to a dealer to support warranties but sometimes owners need to document problems for them.

A couple of things to check are: Is there a possibility that the bucket is flat when it won't pick up the front and angled down when it does? Some loader frames don't go low enough to lift the front when the bucket is flat.

Is the sound near the pump a buzzing or maybe like ball bearings rattling around? If so the pump could be cavitating and that could introduce air into the system.

If the lift is cycled (full-up and then full-down) with the valve held open for a few seconds, does the relief valve open? Open relief valves make a squeal. If the lift is spongy, does cycling it restore power?

There are a few things to check here and maybe we'll get into explanations if needed.
