We Dyno the Yanmar and Kubota engines for applications other than tractors. They both make advertised net HP at rated speeds. Design life is around 6000hrs but have been known to live up to 20,000hrs in our applications. The engine designs between the two are very similar. One engine has a slight power advantage at high load conditions and the other has a slight advantage at medium load conditions.

I am interested in purchasing a landscape rake for my JD 4310. Can anyone comment on a quality difference between the Landpride and Woods brands? Also, Landpride offers a flip up rear blade option. Any suggestions? <br>

The rake will be primarily used to level a gravel driveway and to prepare recently cleared areas for planting.<br>

I typically spread at an engine RPM between 1800 and 2000, and adjust as needed, as you suggest. Once the "gate" is set, the material flow rate is pretty constant. This means the amount of material applied per square foot increases with a drop in ground speed or engine RPM. There is an agitator in my Befco that spins at a rate relative to PTO speed (engine speed), but most granulated materials are pretty free-flowing and the gate flow rate is not greatly affected by the agitator. I would guess that my broadcast width is a maximum of 15 feet, or so, and drops as you mentioned. If you are throwing the same amount of material in a more narrow path, you are applying at a higher rate....

When I say you are not adding weight, I mean for the tractor to haul around. The only energy the tractor is using is the small amount it takes to overcome inertia to get the tractor moving & keep it moving. The water simply stays mostly in the bottom part of the tire while the tire goes around. You also escape the possibility of injury by not having to bother with a very heavy ballast box and having to store it somewhere. Of course, if you were to weigh the tractor it will weigh more and you definitely will be hauling more weight if you plan to put the tractor on a trailer and take it somewhere. Hope this helps. Works great for me, but may not be for everyone.

I have a Woods 5000 chipper shredder that I use. It is manual feed but works well. Designed for 15-30 PTO hp. Bearcat has a model that looks identical. I have used it on Kubotas as small as B6100E,14 hp, just had to feed slowly.

BOUGHT A DS1320 HINOMOTO TILLER, PTO SHAFT HAS A 6 SPLINE ON THE TRACTOR END AND A 21 SPLINE ON THE OTHER END.<br>
THE STUB SHAFT ON THE TILLER IS A 16 SPLINE METRIC.<br>

Treeman, thanks for the reply, I think I got most of it...looks like 5 acres per day...sounds about what i need. I would like to put in 4-5 acres per year. I'll have to try to contact my local ag office to see if they have planters available.

I think you'll find that the tool you have is the one you get used to and it will do the job. When digging a smaller bucket takes more bites than a big one to do the job, but unless you're doing it commercially for profit the extra time spent is usually not a big deal. If you are moving a pile 'O gravel you may have to make a few more trips, but again so what? Extra use may cause it to wear marginally faster, but are you really going to put 4000 hours on it during the time you own it?

IMHO, buying a bigger machine "just in case" is generally not money well spent. Now, that sexy curved 14LA loader is another story...

If you don't have a hydraulic top link, the floating tailgate would not be money well spent. Spend the $s on a well built unit. Since 3-point blades all "float", the weight determines how well they will cut. If you need to cut compacted clays, and gravely clays, the added weight will help.

Sometimes repeating the obvious is important. If you try to relieve the pressure in the lines manually, make sure you protect yourself from any escaping fluid. Hydraulic fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin and cause severe infection.

If I understand your situation, you have pressure trapped in the loader cylinders. Try lifting or jacking the front of the loader frame to relieve the pressure. You won't have to move much to relieve the pressure. Rolling the bucket may lower the arms enough to relieve it. It is safer to find a way to relieve the trapped pressure by relieving the load than to release it at the couplings. Without the tractor running, move the joystick in every direction, this will relieve any pressure trapped on the tractor side. It sounds like you have pressure trapped on the loader side.

If all else fails, you may need to try to relieve at the couplings. Wear safety goggles, gloves, and stay clear of any fluid that may squirt out.
