As Billy mentioned, the hydro whine and also perhaps some gear from the C range gears at that particular rpm or when dragging without load.

I have had steel and now the plastic with my current tractor (4410) and I think I like the plastic. Its quieter as already mentioned and can be restored to as good as new with a buffer and some McQuires #49 Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover and some Gold Class wax.

Agreed, but controlling that spin is much easier with an HST than with a gear transmission.

I was just thinking along these same lines. No matter what you get to weld with, you're gonna need something to cut metal with.
Torches, chop saws, bandsaws, even angle grinders will work. I built my 14' utility trailer using just a 110 welder and a 4" angle grinder to cut the metal. Over the past few years I've accumulated torches and a chop saw. Maybe someday a band saw...

Two of my buddies and I had a brush-hogging event last summer. One of them has a standard tranny TC40; all of us used 5' cutters (The other was a MF 135; me on a TC29) The TC40 got slowed quite a bit in a couple of places in some heavy, fine grass. This was a meadow that hadn't been mowed that year; probably knee to waist tall grass. I had to hit low range in those same spots. The Massey flew through like it was mowing a yard.
I'd say you'd be better off sticking with the 5' as long as you don't have to get near any fences, etc.

I like blizzards line of thought. The mid pto will develop 1/4 the torque of the rear pto. This will work the engine hard. I swore to never use a mid mount mower deck again for just that reason. It loads the engine harder than most anything off the rear. Use the rear pto to run the hydraulic pump for good torque at the proper rpm.

Thse sickle mowers look a little dangerous to me, but that is probably because I lopped the ends off two fingers a couple years ago with hedge trimmers. They look like big hedge trimmers to me.

Not to get off the man's subject, but I have a 7800 and the glow plug light does not go off. Just count based on temperature.

Sounds like an interlock switch problem. Flipping the seat and all in nuetral should do it. Make sure you turn the key all the way off before re-trying the start procedure.

My 4110 came late enough in the fall that it was time to put the blower on and tackle snow, so astoundingly it hasn't even been into the woods yet! I need some time with it this year discovering what I can already do. Wood is the primary justification for the tractor, I spend about 100 hours per year on my wood.

I'm not into metal work or welding, and have too many things on my plate already to start down that path. If I need something in this direction, I'll need to buy readymade or get someone to make it for me.

My local dealer was originally $1000 over Corriher, I told my local guy I was shopping Kubota and NH and that I already had a lower NH price. Next thing I knew, his price dropped and I bought local. But I would have bought Corriher . . . and my NH has never needed service.

Why not buy from Corriher or Tarheel

I have a b7300 with a FEL and a back blade that I have been using to clear my stone driveway here in NE PA. It has bar turfs with v-bar chains on all wheels. The rears are also loaded. This season I have grown tired of looking over my shoulder to plow and then turning around to stack with the FEL. I know many of you use blowers but they are out of the question due to lack of power and the driveway surface. I would like to get a plow to mount on the loader arms. The idea of being able to plow and stack with the same tool sounds good to me. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with small plows of this type.

I can't give you a side by side comp. but last year when I was shopping for a rotary cutter the price of a beat up, used Woods for the same price as a new KK. This is not to say that the KK is a bad choice but around Michigan Woods hold there value.

There are a lot of threads on which brand is better, it all boils down to what you are going to use it for and how often.

Wildman, right now I am running Power Service at 6/10th of an ounce per gallon (3.2 oz per 5 gallons) and I am running 50 gallon batches of fuel. To that 50 gallons I am adding 12 oz of 85 Plus.

I am looking for maximum Cetane boost and long storage life from the Power Service and hoping the synthetics in the 85 Plus will extend the life of my pump and injectors. The 85 Plus kicks up the Cetane too.

I am "high and hot" here and need all the power I can produce.

With this mix the Deere will give me a tiny, token puff of smoke on cold mornings and then runs smoke free no matter how hard I push it.

The Kubota does not smoke at any time.

A heavy blade with end-plates and a scarifier bar would be about the same as a scraper plus if would do tilts and angles and ditching if it had an off-set. these operations are difficult at best with a scraper. The main advantage of a scraper with hydraulic top-link or similarly set up blade is the ability to cut or pick up a load in the box, drag it to where it's needed and then spread it--all without stopping.

I don't have a blade so I don't know if the blade angle can be set at very low angles like a scraper. For finishing with my scraper I extend the top-link so the box rides mostly on its rear cutter and barely skims the surface with the front cutter. That seems to finish pretty well and also does a bit of compacting. I can't compare what I get with what a blade would do though.
