Thank you Chief and others.
I tried 2 things at once so I'm sot sure which it was.
Took the battery out and had it tested. Tested bad. Before putting new battery in, found, disconnected, and cleaned rust off of the negative wire terminal at it's mount on the frame. Bought a little packet of electrical connection grease and applied it there and on the new battery terminals. Back in business.
Every man needs a front-end loader.
Its changed my life more than marriage did.

Also came to wonder today what the difference is between farm batteries, which seem to be given shorter warranties, and auto batteries?

I'm in the process of purchasing a new 4310 with 43 backhoe, 430 loader, 72" 7-iron mid mount mower, and a 66" snow blade on hydraulics. I asked the same question regarding the bucket upgrade. The price differential is $100.00. Well worth the price based on the added structural support!

These Prairie Dog backhoes are made in Michigan. I just bought one from West Michigan Trailer & Equipment, phone-(toll free)866-223-6945. Haven't picked mine up yet but saw one in the lot. Looked good and well built and half the cost of the Deere I was looking at. Will put it to the real test soon.

I picked my Worksaver Quickhitch at the local Deere dealer. We compared Imatch and Worksaver (actually built by SpeeCo) side by side, QH-101 was heavyer construction with more options, Ajustable top hook, top hook adapter bracket for the backset you talked about on your chipper, and bushings. I had to cut the bushings and add a couple washers to fit the lower pins on my Rankin box blade, but no welding. I have more bushings on order for the rest of my implements. Best of all it cost less than the Imatch with more options. Definatly worth considering and you get more bang for the buck.

I too would have to agree that this is NOT only a female thing, I've known plenty of men who couldn't change a lightbulb in their house much less a tire on a vehicle! Istill think there should be some general knowledge test to get a drivers liscense! My wife even took auto shop in highschool. (I didn't-- oops!)

That seems like a fair price, I paid a little more here on the east coast for almost exactly the same equipment. You might get the HD bucket with the skid-steer type attachment if you plan to use forks or other FEL-mounted equipment. If you're going to use it hard, you might look at the replaceable cutting edge option, it reverses for more wear, and you don't have to cut and reweld when it is worn out.

Thanks, blizzard, a stick welder seems to be the concensus. Since I have 220V in my garage there's no reason not to get a 220 as far as I can tell. If I ever need to do sheet metal I can always buy a small MIG for that work.

Thanks also for the link the the Army welding manual. I suppose there's enough info out there that I could teach myself, I just need to be able to identify good and bad welds. Appearance isn't as important although I generally dislike sloppy work.

Tom..good point. A marine gauge would probably work. Stewart Warner has marine gauges that are waterproof versions of their auto gauges.

I'm having a 300gal. tank built out of 1/4" steel for a roller to compact our gravel airstrip. The manufacturer is also welding a tube through the center. Filled with water to 90% it will weigh about 2700lbs. I plan to use the box blade as TomG mentioned before rolling and then it will be hot sprayed with a binding agent.

The stones should not be a problem as it will just make the tiller jump. If it was reverse tine then you might have some stones jamming up under the top sheetmetal. The plus of your tractor is the hydro, PTO work is where you can do with a lesser horsepower tractor than a gear drive can.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark. The Ted's EZ hitch I put on allows for a little more spacing and lift height. Maybe I won't run into problems but being able to reverse the pins sounds good. I'll report on things when it comes in.

We have found that on some the tolorances are so tight that we have cut or ground channels into the shaft to take more grease.

Murf, you are considered a commercial user as far as what we would consider your account. In and out in an hour or so, if possible you leave with another machine to keep you running if you are one of our customers. Not going to give a loaner to a non-customer but we do have rentals. For our home owners it is different. If the lawn is part way mowed when our truck goes out we want a loaner on the truck to finish the lawn! If the lawn is done and it's normal service or repair it is back before you need it. If you did buy it some where else we will rent to you. Spring season stretches us for everything. But that is this dealerships goals. Like in most dealerships there are times that it is hard to be as good as you can. Warrantee work isn't the money maker that many people think it is and some times it costs the dealer plenty.

It seems most all tree service dudes are drunk and have storys...but the best is the one where they decided to bleed the bucket truck in the middle of the barn. Things were going well, but he failed to put a bucket down to catch the hydro fluid...it was another project that should have been outdoors. And undrunk as well.
