I would start with inspecting and cleaning the battery cable, frame ground, and starter connections. I would also check the state of charge of the battery. If all those things are good, sound like a probable starter solenoid or remote possibility of a bad starter switch. Sure sounds like the starter solenoid problem on my boat from setting for the winter.

Before you purchase a starter service parts kit part# CH12505 ; you may want to check around your area to see if there is a shop or dealer that can rebuild your starter. The starter and solenoid appear to be one piece and a new replacement starter part# TY6716 costs $506.00 ! Wish I had better news. Hopefully one of the other guys here will jump in with a better idea!

This guy just never stops impressing me!!! I inquired about a switch and wiring for extra work lights on the rops.<br>
He e-mailed me back saying dont worry about it, he likes to set up his tractors so they are practical for the user and he already has lights attatched. He said he included it in the package!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did not even tell me when I bought it, I cannot say enough good about Larry and St. Joseph Equipment!!! They are making my buying experiance one of the best, No "THE BEST" I have ever had in my life.<br>
When I first started posting here I was told by many that your dealer is everything!!! Now I understand why!<br>
(I am so excited I cant take it!! just a few more weeks and I will be playing in the mud!) If the snow ever succumbs to spring on the calender though!!!<br>

Vassar Farm Equipment makes a PHD for sub-compacts, as well. It's a little pricy and has a digging depth of only 32". It can turn a bigger auger, though. They sell a full line of "estate" size Cat 1/0 implements. Here's a link"

I e-mailed my dealer yesterday to ask if there is a way to put in a switch for added lighting. He got back to me and said yes there is a circuit for it and there is a switch on the tractor for it, he also said he included it in my package!!!! He wants his tractors set up properly he said.!!! I was really impressed, this is turning out to be the best buying experiance in my life!!!! All because of a great dealer!!!!!!!!!

One ton per acre around me is like a dusting of snow when expecting a snow storm. Do a soil sample first (its well worth the 25 bucks) You may be suprised how much lime you need for what you plan on planting, it varies . I needed 9 tons per acre a few years back but since the soil can only really take up to 3 tons per acre a year I have been slowly raising the ph. I now have a pretty good level. Yes you heard me right 3 tons per acre for the last 2 years! I have the lime delivered and spread for 25 bucks a ton. Do a soil test first I cant stress that enough, around here you can tell who has good levels of lime and nutriants by who has deer eating in their clover and who dont! LOL.

Steve, are you sure they are refering to the frame of the tractor. Normally the ladder frame is a subframe attachment that is required for many front implements. The b-series tractors do have a frame per say, but you may want to look into where the ladder frame reference came from. The frame on these tractors is segmental. An engine mount front frame to the clutch housing, and a center frame piece between the clutch housing and the HST. The 2910 and the 7800 have a subframe that acts to double the center frame piece. Don't look for a steel frame like you would find on a garden tractor. The drive train and the frame are intergral on these machines.

My B7800, which came out "shortly" before the 7X10 series, is similar in many ways to tthe 7x10 series. They removed some creature features, and some useful ones, to make a price competitive tractor. I have a speed lock devise that will hold the tractor at a set speed without having to keep my foot on the pedal. It is different than the Cruise control lever I had I my last tractor, and what is standard on the 2910. The cruise control lever on the 2910 allows you to set the speed with the lever without depressing the pedal. The speed lock works just fine. You get to the desired speed with the pedal and then lock your speed with the speed lock lever. I would bet the 7X10 series are equiped the same way.

yes that is all true BUT he said that the seal was out of place to me that is abuse and pto shafts in those tractors are not cast they are cnc machined

You make a good point. I only have 20hrs on my 7800HST so hadn't check the capacities. It shows the transmission case capacity in the manual as 3.83 gals., and a total hydraulic output of capacity of 9.5 gals/min (steering and 3P). I had always gone with the rule of thumb that reservoir capacity should be at least total output capacity to avoid overheating the fluid. Is the cooling system efficient enough to turn over the oil 3 times a minute? I would suppose that in most applications; FEL, 3-point, etc, I wouldn't be turning the fluid over that often. Maybe someone could add some theory behind this.<br>

In November of 02 I purchased a 98 L2900 GST FEL with 440 hrs like new for 12K. I think a dealer would have sold it for about 13.5K

Kubota BX's have a temp gauge and no tach.

Deer's 2210 has a tach and no temp gauge.

Go figure.

By not asking yourself if you'll get stuck are you saying that you KNOW you'll get stuck? LOL

I really like the R1s. They don't plug up like the R4s and in mud they largely clean themselves, unlike the R4s which stay plugged once they got plugged. Only downside so far is the rougher ride on hard surfaces. The R1s leave tracks but I don't care, I don't have a lawn to worry about (yet anyway).

I was in the same situation as you this winter except I knew I needed(wanted) a tractor. I have a new house on 4 acres with all the landscaping yet to do, snow removal, some wood work, etc. To hire out landscaping costs a fortune and with my figures I think the savings will pay for over half my tractor. I also enjoy doing projects around the house and with the tractor it is fun( not work)

My big decision was how large a machine to get. I narrowed it down to a 7800, 7610 or BX23. I ended up getting a BX23 as I decided I really needed a backhoe more than I needed a bigger machine and a bigger machine with a backhoe was too much $. It was the right decision as it does all I need and more. That was the view of the majority on this board and they were correct.

I love my Ventrac 3000. I demoed Steiner and liked them also. I would go with the best dealer but I prefer sitting up front instead of behind the engine. Visibility directly infront of the Ventrac 3000 can't be beat. They were both designed by the Steiner brothers so you know they are both quality units.

Wiggly, I built it this winter to pile the logs. I have to admit, it works pretty well. There has been some interest from other members in it too. It took one evening to draw up and cut out and a long evening to weld up. I think I have less than $100 into the whole thing. I did buy a quick attach plate for $125 to bolt the moveable arms to but I can use that for other projects as well. The lower arms are pinned solidly to the holes where the loader support legs are usually pinned (I removed the support legs).

I have a full size layout of the pieces that I can take a digital picture of and post it if you're interested. Or is there a way to email an attachment?

It would probably be just as easy to do what I did which is to make a cardboard model of an upper and lower arm. That way you can tape it to the loader and get the geometry right by opening and closing the arms. Then I transferred the cardboard to a full size drawing on poster board. That way you can set the pieces on the drawing and mark almost everything without having to measure.

Sorry if this is more information than you were looking for but once I get started, it's hard to stop. :-)
