d thanks for your input i did not think the 1st posting about the large rocks got pasted the i realised the 1st posting was placed on a 2nd page so i apoligize for that. as far as scarfier teeth that must be a option i did not see any fel's at the jd dealer? you guys must remeber i have never even used a fel before but i have 2.5 acres that need some attention in the top soil department and replanting someone told me that a 4110 hst could not be used for any excavation i know in a month i will find out for myself, but after the advise you gave me yesterday about
the fel width i changed the order right away even though we do not know one another i do trust knowledge that is why i am asking the questions now instead of running the risk of broked equipment! thaks for you help and knowledge! roboha

2 words........power rake. Harley makes a good one and so does Land Pride. I would suggest renting one to prep the seed bed. If the soil is poor, you may want to add top soil or mix in lime and fertilizer when prepping with the power rake. You can get a good price on fertilizer at your local Coop if you buy it by the pallet which is about 2,500 lbs. I just spread 2,500 lbs. of 19-19-19 and am going back for another pallet this week. It runs $387.50 a pallet for 19-19-19. You can go with 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 which is much cheaper. Best to get it down now while it is still wet and cool. It will dissolve into the soil with the first rain. Grass seed is you choice of what you like but try to pick a grass seed which will do well in your area. I like zoysia and Bermuda grass but another choice might be better in cooler climates. Pick out as many rocks and debry as you can and then seed it. Top it off with spreading straw on top to help protect it and hold moisture.

Think of the FEL on any compact tractor as sort cross between a wheelbarrow and a large snow shovel.

It is meant to scrape, scoop, hold and transport a variety of materials.

If you put your foot on the back of your snow shovel and try to use it as a spade, it will bend. And so it is with your FEL.. it will carry your big rocks if they will fit in the bucket, but it will not pry them out of the ground.

A backhoe will do that job quite nicely..... but you won't drive anywhere with your backhoe bucket full of stuff to dump..... that is the FEL's job.

I could understand how on the northwest coast with little satellite coverage and no weather ships how they were unable to predict the weather in the afternoon, but I am amazed at how many times they are wrong in the center of the states.

Ok guys..Looks like we have 3 sizable jobs tomorrow (Thursday) so we will be renting a brand new BX23 to try it out. The holes are going on a little curbed-in island just off the pavement, so the mini-ex would be perfect there, but I'm going to put the BX23 to the test. I'm going with the 10" bucket. I'm also bringing a piece of plywood, approx. 20"wide X 36"deep to 'box-in' the hole where the bucket pulls towards the machine (Just in-case). I'll let u guys know how it goes.

That sounds like a possibility. Most clutches are like a pto over-running clutch and use a ratchet so the engine doesn't spin the starter if the spring doesn't disengage the pinion when it starts. Damaged ratchet teeth sure could produce what is described. You'd think the starter shop would have noticed but I have the impression that not much was done except hook it up and say 'yes it shifts and spins.'

The pinion clearance really should be measured and compared to specs before getting too far into shims. As with all things it's good to make sure of what the problem is before closing on a solution for it.

They are available used from time to time but often the cheapest way to get a loader is with the tractor. The early loaders were not QT in any way which leaves heavy steering.

I'm happy Hardwood broached the subject. I ducked because I was starting to ramble myself. I probably would have said something like 14 lbs. pressure gives around 30' theoretically, but then there's a bunch of loss in a stream. In practice, 14 lbs. goes zip in our fire pumps even with 1/4" straight nozzles. I think it's all in the nozzle. Much higher pressures and flows still go around 30' with a fogger nozzle but then they're designed to make broad fronts.

As I mentioned I do think the Northern pump has potential for doing the job but maybe having some flow/pressure regulation might be good. I'd think in terms of what it takes to get a fairly narrow fog type spray that distance. It might not be good if high flows are needed and more insecticide ends up on the ground than on the trees. I wonder if pros do it all from the ground or use booms to get the nozzles closer to the trees.

If you have a fork attachment for your loader there are also booms available that slip on the forks and lock. I've used this kind before to position rocks in landscape building. But be advised, even six inches away from the bucket drastically reduces the FEL lifting capacity and also changes the balance and stability of your tractor for the worse. Always proceed with the greatest caution, especially when adding length (moment) and weight to any implement.

Must be 4x4 and low hours in excellent shape, otherwise
I'll go for new.

Looks like a pretty good job. I could use some more traction for my scraper sometimes so I'm interested. When traction challenged I carry weight in the loader but I'd just as soon not stress the front drive to make up for what the rear isn't doing. I did have a thought about carriage bolts. I remember them as major occasional aggravations on cars. I've had a few beaters where prior backyard mechanics probably didn't have hex bolts and substituted carriage bolts.

The bolt threads would corrode and then I couldn't get them off easily. The carriage bolt heads tended to back rather than the nut. As soon as the bolts started getting a bit loose, the square part of bold heads would clear their sockets and then the bolts just spun around unless I could get a vice grip on the round bolt heads. Plated bolts may not have this problem but SAE bolts may not be plated--besides there's likely room for a vice grip.

yeah, I can relate,my neighbor lost his adverse posession law suit on my driveway/bridge.He had the village plow me in at the entrance. They were chuckling as they saw me watching !!! My neigbor must have not been home when I brought my 60 inch erskine front mounted snow blower home one day. The look of the snow plow drivers and the neighbor was like the mastercard commercial PRICELESS as they watched me drive my jd790 out of my garage and down the drive way blowing snow 30 feet !!!!!<br>

Like any other purchase you need to look at the whole picture. You are correct Branson has a 3 year warranty. The last year is engine and drive train only. Century has the C-50 loader and on the larger frame tractors the C-50HL. Century's parts and service support to the dealer is second to no one in the industry. I would not suggest anyone buy something based one feature.
