i would not sugest a flail to any body for one as mentioned they are more expensive and two insted of haveing just two or three blade to maintain you have from 10 to 50 to maintain.

AC, you know what they say is true, "...be nice to the folks on the way up, because you may meet them on the way down!" Sounds like your not-so-neighborly neighbor just had his first lesson in CUT diplomacy. I had a similar situation with a neighbor who didn't like my equipment being stored at my house, even though almost all of it is under roof. She called the town to complain, and then we had a micro-burst hit the neighborhood and she lost seven large poplars. Gee, turns out my schedule book was filled, and by gosh, so were the other area landscapers' (after breakfast conversation at the local diner). She eventually got cleaned up, but not until she was humiliated by her high toned friends who thought her usually manicured yard was "just a Gawd awful mess."

I think eastern Colorado and most of Kansas is wheat. I am sure that they plant corn, too, but I don't have any idea what the percentage is. When you get up through KS into Nebraska, corn starts to become the more dominant crop. <br>

Since wood pellets and corn are roughly the same size, will any wood pellet stove work with corn? I imagine that wheat would burn well too, but corn has more oil, so I expect that the BTU value is better. <br>

What type of furnace is required to burn spent motor oil? I found one company called Clean Burn that makes a waste oil boiler that I might be able to use to heat my house and shop with waste oil. I called a local recycler and they can supply 1000 gallon lots for 60 cents per gallon. I think that I may need to look into this further. <br>

I am not sure about the EPA. It is funny here. Across the county line (five miles from where I live) they regulate when you can burn wood in your fireplace. They literally have "No burn" days. Now in the county where I live, we can burn anytime. In the other county, they limit your ability to drill a well into the aquifer. Here you put up a house and drill a well for your needs. I am sure that the other county has made the provisions so that smoke from my county does not drift into their airspace on the "no burn" days and that the water that I use from my well is physically isolated in the underground aquifer from the water in their county. ;-)<br>

We just purchased 11 acres - small horse farm with 4 board fencing. Need a compact tractor to mow 1 1/2 - 2 acres, some bush-hogging, dragging/grading round pen, out door arena, snow removal, etc. Looking at the Cub Cadet 5254 4wd with pull behind finishing mowere, box scraper, etc. Price quoted new with two implements is $10,000. Does this sound right and is this enough tractor?<br>

I own an acre that My home is on now... Need it for several things here, leveling, filling... I have a JD Lawn Tractor to cut with here... I do have another 10 acres in Southern Ohio that I will build on eventually... So Im looking in the
Mid Range of tractors... 25-35 HP???

No problem Michael, I reread your post and don't know what I was thinking. Just being an idiot I guess.

My aversion to a project like this is that I program for a living and I drive the tractor to get AWAY from programming. After 20 some odd years at the keyboard (and keypunch before that) it's a chore, whereas bush hogging the back 40 is FUN.

Nearly all New England source mulch is tub ground/chipper ground indigenous species, it could be almost anything. The better yards amend the shredded/chipped stock with mild boric acid for insect control and add a dye for color. Playground mulch is dictated by the state for size of chip, material, and allowable percent of "other" material, it's usually dye free. Only mulch sold by species name, such as red cedar, cypress, pine, cocoa shell, hemlock, etc. can be sold if the content of "other" material is less than 10%. Pine needle mulch is ideal mulch, but if you worry about the ph, there is nothing wrong with mulching with aggregate, it won't alter your soil ph or produce artillery fungus (which can shoot its spores over twenty feet and cause damage to metal, plastic, and wood surfaces). Regardless of what you use, renew it every spring to eliminate fungus and dye fade. I thank you very mulch.

I am moving wet soil as we speak (taking a break). My 53 inch bucket, when filled, puts a bulge in my front turf tires and makes it clear that it is a LOAD.

For serious loader work on my 4100 (same critter as your 4110) I carried 1000-1100 pounds of ballast between the wheel weights and the three point hitch. The manual recommends even more than that. That machine had a 49" bucket.

The message in the picture is that the rear end is VERY light and take the ballast numbers seriously.

Probably 1/3 to 1/2 of implement manufacturers make I-Match compatible implements. Just ask 'em when shopping! They sometimes charge a bit more. Those that aren't I-Match compatible can often be modified for $50 at a local welding shop.

By the way, it's a lot easier to read posts when you type in lower case. All upper case is considered to be "yelling".

Eric, it's funny you mention LPG-powered tractors. In the early 80's the Gov. was really pushing LPG-powered vehicles and diesels were not yet popular. There were big tax incentives to convert, including no sales tax on purchases of converted vehicles.

Several local farmers converted their older gas tractors, one in particular though, a pig farmer, had a really novel idea. He built an enclosure to hold the manure, then a vapour extraction / collection system, and finally a compressor which filled a storage tank. It collected the methane gas from the pig manure which he then used as fuel for his tractor.

The system worked fairly well, except, the tractor's exhaust smelled distinctly like that of the pigs themselves.... LOL.

The Magnuson-Moss act protects the buyer from certain circumstances. If you have a new GM truck (for example) and change the oil yourself you don't have to use GM oil but you do have to use oil that meets (or exceeds) the specs set by GM for that truck.<br>

I think it would be great to have an 8 foot box blade, sure could do twice the work of a 4-footer. But it's 120# over the rated capacity of my 3PH, something breaks, I'm liable for that because I'm too stupid. Warranty covers nothing. <br>

I would think that any self-respecting backhoe manufacturer would know what the specs are for the particular machine they are designing the backhoe for.<br>
Any decent dealer will not sell you an attachment that will not work on your tractor.<br>

The BX23 is a great little combo. Designed as a a TLB, will run efficently as one as well. If not for the ground clearance I would have one. <br>

The term "fence post" covers a lot of ground. I my case, the property is thirty years old and the "look" was established long before I bought it.

That said.... my fence posts are old railroad ties. I put 3 feet in the ground and have 5 feet above. They do require compaction to stay put especially in the sandy areas. I use a 18 pound steel tamping rod to set them.

After a few weeks, you can't pull they back up without digging all around them. If you space them every 20 feet and string your choice of wire between them, you will end up with a very economical way to fence large areas.

With the BX you get the works ready to go for the money you want to spend. For the larger B-s you will still be wishing for more. The BX takes a 60" deck just like the rest of the B's till you get to a 7800. So what is the advantage, some ground clearance which with a little caution can be overcome. Now the price of a hoe on a B-series will hold you back cost wise, the BX will allow you to work in the woods enough to offset the cost of the larger tractor with no loss of equipment options.

I don't think I'd guess or experiment in this case. If you are in a hurry maybe one of the IT manuals would have a procedure and fast delivery time. Maybe if you ordered a shim kit from a dealer somebody would describe the specs and procedures. Hope you can read all of this or you register.<br>

The shims for my Ford of similar size and age go under the solenoid but I believe other makes do go under the starter. My shims are fairly specific parts--rings around the entire mount surface with holes for the mounting bolts. The speced range for pinion clearance isn't very large.<br>

I don't think you want to pick something that is under considerable torque when operated off its mounting surface and onto washers. Guessing and getting a very wrong clearance could break the starter or ring gear, which would become very expensive repairs. Misalignment of the pinion would add a bunch or wear to it and the ring gear.

I don't know if it was said somewhere in this thread but using ROSPS without a seat belt may be less safe than using neither. Without a seat belt: If a person gets thrown from a tractor and it doesn't roll there's a good chance of being run over by an implement. If it's rolling, a person who does jump almost always jumps off the low side and then the ROSP comes down on top of them.
