I live in right next door in CC.

I had a PHD that I am selling. Just couldn't find the right soil type on my hillside to make use of the PHD.

I set my first 600 feet of fence posts with the backhoe on my BX 22 and have more to go.

If you are down on the valley floor, in pasture land, it might work for you as long as you are prepared to deal with the rocks by hand.

I think your backhoe is the ultimate fence post weapon, but I can also make you one heck of a deal on a slightly used Gearmore PHD.

I mow about 2-3 acres and my driveway is about 250 feet uphill. (I will use the tractor for snow removal.) I plan to do some work in the woods so ground clearance might be an issue with the smaller tractors. I could probably get by with a bx but I want to play it safe and go up in size a little. I'm also trying to come in under 20k, if possible. I'll probably be up to see you, Art. Just want to know what I'm talking about before I get there!

Looking at a fairly clean 1999 jd 4300 w/ fel, hst, 4wd, and box blade. Asking price is 11,900 and tractor has 500 hrs. Test drove and she sounds good. Is a little transmission whine okay on an hst? Owner is very honest; I spotted some oil under rear end, and he said I should have the dealer look at it before we finalize. This is my first post. Oh, I have 5 ac.

TomG appreciate the reply yes I think if I had a tractor manual that would help. they are hard to come by. I think I will try putting a washer or two between the bolt studs and see if this will space the starter out some what do you think?

You might want to consider a little larger unit like a mini excavator so if you had the dump trailer that you hauled it there in you could haul the scraps away. To dig 8' down you need at least a 10' hoe to dig it well.

Check into flail mowers, which will give a finish cut along with the ability to chop thru heavy growth and small saplings. They are more expensive though.

You may also want to check if any other features are different between the two models. My B7800-f had foldable ROPS but also included the mid PTO as standard, which you don't get on the -r model. Would be worth looking into.

Float is a position of the spool in the FEL valve that allows hydraulic fuid to flow between sides of the cylinder. As earlier described, no down pressure is exerted in float. Float noramlly requires a fourth position on the valve, usually with detent,(holds the valve in float position). If the tractor you are looking at doesn't have a 4 position valve, it probably doesn't have a float feature. You will be able to tell by playing with the FEL valve.

Hi again, I am rebuilding my 9n/8n hybrid was going to sell it but I am leaning towards keeping since I am doing way too good a job on it to sell LOL. A question for the pros. Is it possible the ole guy that had my tractor before me never put a king pin in?along with the pivot bushing? I have found alot of "rigged" fixes so far and always new the front needed a bushing but untill I took the radiator off and all the grease and gook I never really saw the bad bushing. Now I am looking at it and it is missing something?? I see nothing that looks like the king pin and what I see is just a long bushing that is no where near the right size. In fact it looks like it should have a spacer and there is nothing there either. My book calls for a pivot pin pivot bushing, spacer and anouther spacer also. <br>
Is there supposed to be any movement in this area and how tight should it be (the bushing) Any help would be great for I am not that knowlegable in this area<br>

Completed installation of PB today (not nice day, but had to get done).

Observations:

You need large wrenches to undo the hydraulic connectors. 1 3/16 (I only had 1 1/4 so it had to do), 1 1/8, and 1 1/16 and 15/16. A larger wrench is also needed (size unknown) to hold the rockshaft filter when removing. I used vicegrips.

Torque wrench with crowsfeet in above sizes would have been nice. However, tightening by feel seemed to work and I don't see any hydraulic leaks.

The 1 1/16 needs to be thin to hold the fitting for the return line under the seat. I had to grind one of my inherited wrenches down so that it would fit between the pipe connector and the manifold block (15 minutes of grinding).

It takes 1/2 hour to remove/replace the seat/plastic cover and handles (once you have done it once, and when you think you are all done discover that you put the rockshaft lever in the wrong slot in the plastic cover and you have to remove everything again to put it in the right slot. You get real good at rr the seat and cover).

Removing the seat/plastic cover also helped in wiring the additional lights mounted on a cross bar similar to Harvey's.

Now, all I need is the PB implements...

Anyone know of a low-cost add-on grappler for a BX23 loader bucket? Purpose is to pick up things easily (without getting off the tractor!..), such as brush, logs, road kill, etc. A kit would be great to keep cost down.
