I have the 4330 with the hoe - Having had it for about 6 weeks, here are some options I got (thrown in) and as mentioned above, a couple I need to add.

Things I had thrown in:

2 sets of wheel weights.
Block Heater (cheap I'm sure).
Free transport for service or on-site service

Things I want to add, should have possibly negotiated for:

Front and rear hydraulic remotes
bucket cutting edge
worklights

Now an option I've not yet seen, but am considering adding:
A radio with waterproof speakers! I end up doing a lot of little hand work with the tractor off, and sometimes a radio would be nice (listen to the game, etc). I know I could just carry a battery powered portable one, but think of how out of control that project could become!

Trakorb, welcome to the forum - it's good to have more Oregonians on board! Where have you been shopping? Fisher Implement in Hillsboro has been unbelievably excellent to deal with for me, both before and after the sale. I shopped Kubota at Crawford-Olsen but they were terrible - chaotic and rude and they didn't want to talk to me. I drove out to Gresham and talked to the guys at Moen Machinery about Kubota - they're great out there, but I didn't want a dealer that was that far away. I'm not sure that the stats are wrong on either machine, I'm sure they will both do what's promised. Don't get too wrapped up in specs - it's unlikely you'll notice small differences. More important are things like price, ergonomics, and the dealer you like to work with. All my opinion of course.

Weld Procedure Specifications (AWS D1.1) can be written for steel over 1" thick with 3/32 flux core T71 wire. We use it in many applications for field welding where gas shielding is not recommended due to atmospheric problems. Requires 250 amp power source, but is an arc welding procedure. Been building bridges, buildings and stadiums for a long time and never heard of a welding proocess that "sprays" molten metal into a channel. The consumable is only a part of the welding process. The fusion and mixing between the base metal and the consumable in the weld pool forms a weld. I would like to learn more about the spray process you described. Shielding gases for GMAW are just that, shields, inert gases that keep the gases in the atmosphere from reacting in (boiling) the weld pool. Can you tell me the name of the welding process for steel that you are descibing. Thanks

I'd ask for a copy also, but the wife got me a Miller 175 for Christmas. Great machine!! I've been in the steel fabricating and erecting business for 24 years, wouldn't use anything but Miller or Lincoln.

I don't own a hoe yet, but have been around plenty. Use a PTO pump and a sub-frame mount. If you are going to do some digging for a couple hours or more, the PTO pump is the way to go. The sub-frame could save you some big $'s in the long run, protect the tractor bell housing from abuse. The stresses from the hoe hydraulics are more than the 3-point was probably designed to take, especially without hydraulic stabalizers. I plan to build one also, and intend to modify a CadPlan.

I don't want to start another Plastic vs. Metal debate here, but am curious. How long has JD been using composite body panels? Did the original 4000 series use plastic panels? I don't recall anybody complaining about them, except the anti-plastic folks who have strong preferences and little data, so I'm curious how they're holding up for everyone.

well, this is just kind of an anecdote...the first job with a landscaper i ever had...on the first day we were doing fall clean up and I broke the rake....got chewed out the first day....BE VERY CAREFUL!

Randy, I recall that you wrenched birds, I've been in that 'adrenaline zone' before myself a few times.

Mechanical failures aren't nearly as scary as say, bogeys on your radar, or the sound of 7.62's from a AK below you coming up through the fuselage. A sure way to ruin some perfectly good stick time.
