As you might have guessed, I did get a digital camera. I was
taking so few pictures besides ones to post it wasn't cost effective to use film, and the PITA process of snap, process, scan, and post was tedious. I was in the woods Sunday hauling logs and piling slash. The moderate temperatures contributed to excellent traction and very pleasant working conditions.

I am curious,why wouldn't you buy a JDor a Kubota for the same money? I would think the resale would be easier.

Morning Dennis my 28.8 and 32.2 (on good days) is better this am. Yup it was sluggish I figured the phone company just needed to put some line conditioner in :-) Seems the motor needed a minor tune up. But all weekend does not seem minor to me.

Most of those are built for a cat 2 or 3 hitch. You would need to convert to cat 1 and either get the 3&4 scv (remotes) or get long hoses to run to your bucket controls.

The other option is 1 remote with diverter valving. Others know more about them.

I do remember going thru and weeding the patch of links that I felt were kinda unfriendly to baby tractors.

I look in my antique area have gobs of stuff there.

and went to Kubota. Said the Cubs were always
coming back with filter ripped off? Just his
opinion. I have never owned a cub. I will refer

Craig me thinks you are going back a few years with your terminoligy. Some older tractors were configured that way. I spent many a hour on an old Farmal with one lever and one outlet. My brothers WD Allis has one outlet plus the hitch arrangement and it all runs from the 1 lever.

I do not think I've seen a newer tractor set up that way although those systems are still used: pick up snow plows w/o down pressure.

On the new JD CUT I've gotta think one coupler only on the back is for power beyond, but there should be a nipple there also. If there were 2 couplers that would be for the 3rd remote.

Murf..fuel is an issue. I fill up once per year. She burns about 3/4-1gph. 200 gallons will run her from here to Seattle non-stop. I calculate that an extra 150 gallons will get me to Hawaii with reserves.

We go out for a week to 10 days at a time and there's no refueling points enroute. Water is our biggest issue but conserve..100gal does us fine. Ice is another issue (for the toddies) but always find a calving glacier and net 1,000,000 year old ice that lasts the trip.

The seas in Prince William tend to be confused and tightly fetched. I even slowdown in 5+' seas. You would skip across the tops.

And...I hate to admit..I have had sea kayaks keep up for short periods.

I friend of mine builds custom masts in Anacotes, WA. Tubular aluminum with radar pads..look good.

Help! I have a Zetor 7745 tractor with a front end loader. While loading dirt, it acted like the clutch was slipping (dig into the dirt and then come to a stop with the clutch still engaged, or not move forward with wheels turned too sharply or in soft dirt.) Shortly after that I stopped to close a gate and then it refused to move. While towing it to the barn to start repairs in heavy snow, we tried it and found that sometimes it would move forward fairly well, other times very weakly, and most of the time not at all. The previous owner suggested that the problem may be low transmission/hydraulics oil. Sure enough it was low. Filled it, and tried it again and it seemed to be OK for about 100 ft, but when I changed gears, it refused to move again. The engine is running fine and the hydraulics and steering work great, but it is not getting power to the wheels. Any help would be appreciated....BNB

I may take some heat for this and I am sure there will be a few who will say different. I have been working in the dairy (pump valve/ experimental) industry and now the tractor industry (tool and die) for over 20 years. I would NEVER buy a product that is just launched, I dont care what type/make/model. I have seen alot!!! Trust me when I say you are gambling with a model that a company is trying to get out before anouther beats them to the punch. If you are so unlucky to get one of the first thousand or so the bugs are still being worked out in most cases. "IMHO"

Cpt.Dave, The 970 is not in showroom condition and the backhoe pins are pretty loose. Considering your machine is older but in better shape it sounds like a good deal to me. I was looking for a 30HP machine with loader and backhoe. I could not find anything comparable for less than $15,000, the 970 was easily the best value for the size.

Now that I've semi retired from 30 some yrs. in furniture mfg. the torch has passed to the next generation with my son now taking over the business, so I'm setting up a metal working shop as a retirement hobby. After those yrs. in the furniture plant I learned that the best machines you can by are by far the most economical to own. With regular matinence they just never seem to wear out and seldom depreciate much from the original cost. Over the past couple years I've bought some machines for the metal shop as the budget has allowed, a Hypertherm 1000 plasma cutter, Lincoln 250 Mig welder, Jet electric hoist, and just last week a Jet Model BP 1248F box and pan brake. I was astonished at the massive structure of this machine, I think an Abrams tank could run over it and barely scratch the paint. We've allways been happy with Jet brand machines in the wood shop, we've got wide belt sanders, knife planers etc. from Jet that have ran flawlessley for years, so I want to stick with Jet in the metal shop. Now to my Question, has anyone had any experience with a model HS- 1652 hydraulic shear from jet. That's my next goal when the budget allows, so any comments positive or negative would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Frank.

I honestly can't say that I've ever saw a 4000 series with R-1 tires around here. You still see a rare new one now and then with the closed tread lawn mower type tread that towns or golf courses buy for mostly mowing duty, but I'd say 98% of the 4000 tractors around here have R-4's. I too have worked around construction and ag equipment all my life, and R-1's are far superior for absolute pulling traction, but just a little too severe for turf type duty, so the R-4's seem to be a nice compromise. Frank.
