Well it is on the way...JD4310, R4's calcium, 430FEL with 61" HD Bucket, 47BH with 13" Bucket, 60" Box Scraper, iMatch, FWD&Rear Lights, and the Rental Upgrade. The total came to $25,815...plus the hats. The saleman talked me out of the 4-in-1. Based on what I wanted to use it for, he told me it probably wouldn't last for more than a year...meaning I would bend up the bucket.

There should be a couple holes in the arms. Attach the lift arms at the outer holes. You may have to turn the 3 point arms around.

Thanks, Chief. I've seen these and some folks even say they work ok, but I figure I'd wear one out after every few dozen trees. I researched the tanakas more and they're out since they don't have a telescoping version. So it's looking like the Stihl wins. I didn't want to spend that much, but it will only hurt once.

I guess it is inherently a little more "tractor like" with all those levers and pedals. Kinda like learning to play a pipe organ and then stepping down to a keyboard......

Anyway, DENNO: If'n you don't mind to much, why do you want R-1's? Trips to the woodlot?

Thanks, ncrunch32. That's pretty much what I expected since not even JD Tech can answer the question. It would be nice to get a definitive answer but nobody has ever indicated leaving it engaged at all times would cause a problem.

Just got back from the JD dealer. My wife and I took a tractor ride to get our free JD seat as advertised on this web page. <br>

Funny thing was that no one at the dealership was aware of the offer. We had to explain it to them and gave them the tractorpoint.com address. Probably everyone at the dealership will now sign their friend up for a tractor ride.

I too am interested in light duty fork-lifting with my 2230. Does "Big K" make a "quick-tach" mount for our little loaders, or only the big ones (Art?) ? Not real crazy about the idea of putting forks on the bucket.

Every 4wd I have ever owned (car, truck or tractor) has done the same as you describe to some degree. Just the nature of the beast I think.

I would guess that the super-short wheelbase and tight turning radius on your tractor make it more noticeable.

Easiest to check tire tread and transmission noise. Run the Mid PTO under load, with mower deck, on lawn if available. A mid mount mower deck loads the engine as well as anything. Good check for torque. Have the engine compresion tested if possible. Operate the 3-Point with a good sized ( 54" ) box blade. This is another good test for torque and transmission integrity. Check all the dip sticks looking for metal flakes and particles and clarity of the fluids. At 66 hours (suspicious), should only be 16 hrs since fluids were changed. Talk to the dealer, get the serial number, and try to get a good reason why a 1986 tractor was only used for 66hrs.
