Hi Denno,

You gonna love you machine for sure...I have the GEAR JD 4100 and I remember your post and commented in it as well. I guess I painted a picture on the gear models as being not desirable or capable. Thats far from what I was trying to say. The gear is a great machine and very capable, and the hydro has advantages. But it better to have a machine you like regardless, and I love mine...
As for Implements to more you can get now the more money you can save. Otherwise Corriher has some great prices !

If this is an e-bay listing, be careful and check the sellers rating. Not too long ago someone thought they bought a 2410 on e-bay and found out they donated a lot of money to a stolen identity. That price is too good to be true.

I think you're describing the "normal" binding action that occurs when most any vehicle, (car, truck or tractor) is locked in 4WD. Gear ratios in the front and rear axles should provide an identical ground speed when traveling straight ahead but when turning you create two different paths for the inner and outer wheel on both the front and rear axle.

For example, if we assume the outer front wheel turns in a 72� radius and the front axle is 30� wide, the radius the inner front wheel turns is only 42�. When you are going straight the front and rear track. When you turn, the rear end follows the front end in much the same way as a trailer and moves in a tighter radius than the front end. Let�s say the outside rear wheel in our example follows a 64� radius so with the same 30� tread width, the inner rear tire would follow a 34� radius.

When you�re turning in two wheel drive the spider gears in the rear end allow the rear tires to turn at a different rate compensating for the difference in the size of the circle they are making. When you shift to 4WD you ask the front spider gears to do the same thing but, because the front and rear are solidly coupled, there is a bind created because all 4 tires are turning different radii. Some all wheel drive vehicles have a viscous coupling between the front and rear axles, rather than a gear box, to provide some slippage between the axles in addition to the speed differential allowed left to right by the spider gears.

Tire pressures should be in line with mfr. recommendations to get the theoretically correct ratios for traveling straight ahead. There have been threads that talked about checking footprint as well as pressure but, because of my racing background, I check all new vehicles with a pressure gauge then I jack up the front and rear separately and measure each tire�s circumference with a narrow ruler to be sure they are within 1/8", or so, on the same axle. Radials are pretty consistent but some supposedly identical bias ply tires vary by inches at the same pressure. This could be due to manufacturing differences but in some cases it is simply the result of different pressures needed to seat the bead on the rim when the tire was first mounted that stretched the casing.

Dennis, I think we all appreciate the performance on TractorPoint. On a slow dial-up some other sites are nearly unusable, but this one always works. Sometimes it's a little sluggish here but it's always been usable. Thanks for the good work and ongoing commitment!

Most stationary LA batteries have a pulse charge system. There are larger mud shelfs in the battery and greater distances between the plates. Sulfonation is a problem. Most also have automatic watering systems.
I am not sure how this relates to the normal storage battery in a RV which is essentially a regular auto battery with slightly thicker plates.
I am not sure how this is going to add life to the battery over a regular solar charger. I would think the VRLA would solve the problem also as they are slower to discharge and eliminate the sulfonation problem.

I received price quotes from my dealer, Fisher Implement in Hillsboro Oregon, on both 47 and 48 hoes. It sounds like the 48 hoe may not be the best choice for a 4310. What follows is from the dealer:<br>

Here are the prices for the backhoes for your 4310 tractor and you are right you need a power beyond kit for a backhoe. Deere 47 Backhoe with a 13" bucket power beyond, installed with pick-up and delivery of your tractor is $6795.00. Deere 48 Backhoe with 12" bucket, power beyond, installed with pick-up and delivery of your tractor is $7725.00. The model 47 backhoe is designed specifically for the 4210 through the 4410 tractors and the 48 backhoe is made for the 4510 through the 4710 tractors and now with modifications for the 5020 Series tractors. The frame for the 48 model is modified to work on the 4210 through 4410 tractors, however, we have experienced problems with the rear rims of those models when using the model 48 in years past. The extra weight and torque of the 48 will cause the bolts to wallow out the rim holes and cause metal fatique on the rims around the bolt holes. Fisher came up with a fix for this problem, we weld a steel rim around the bolt hole area, re-drill the bolt holes and re-mount. This has been working over the past 2-3 years but causes the cost of the 48 model for your tractor to be a little more expensive.

I had a Curtis once that turned into a sail when I folded my ROPS on a CC 7275. The result was cracked fiberglass and an angry owner. That is one heck of a cantilever that has little support. The FOPS I had on the L35 was a four post support system, that worked much better.

Murf, you Canadians have some bargains. Down here on the "Gold Coast" of New England a balled specimen conifer (25ft up) starts at $1500 and typical planting costs start at $500. The nurseries I buy from use the wire basket ball method and Vermeer's largest tree spade. So I think when Ken is ready he may want to negotiate with a few of the nurseries down this way. There is good money to be had provided the logistics and harvesting don't get in the way.
