My dealer salesman did not know about the tractor line and could not price one out. The technician at the new holland dealer looked at the parts schematics and liked what he saw. He said he had experienced a lot of computer and transmision related problems with the new compact and TN lines. I am looking for a new holland that will be operated by an employee pulling gang reel units. Tough, simple, and reliable is what i'am looking for.

Yes that is it, being a toll and die maker I tend to over do jobs (tolerances and appearence). That is exactly what I am affraid of if I start a job like this.
A old farm boy I work with has offered to put the tube in for me and also said I should take the rim and clean it up before putting the new tube in. He also stated the same as you guys, the inside will be just as bad if not worse. Should I plan on sand blasting the rim while the tire is off? If so, is it ok to blast the inside of the rim also? Now comes the technical question, If I replace the right tire with a tube and no ballast, should I do the same to the left or leave it alone? They both are loaded (or were) I was thinking it probably would not be too cool to leave one empty and one full.?? Or is that ok?
Thanks again I think I will be replacing the wiring harness, replace all the hoses, a few of the electrical (starting) components, (I already have a few new items on the tractor already from the last few years) I need to replace the two gauges that are broke and very ugly looking. Other than that, I had already rebuilt the carb 2 years ago ,new battery 1 year ago along with cleaning the gas tank and new glass bowl. WOW I will stop here with everything I replace in the last few years before I decide to keep it. I will feel better about selling it if I do the things I stated, I actually already have a few bites ( people hinting they may be interested) and only a few guys know I brought it back home. The key is not to sell it to a friend or someone I know, If they get it looking beatiful I will be jealouse and if they have all kinds of problems with it I will feel responsible.

The guy that said he would fix my tire? I have done many machining jobs for him in the past, so I guess he is paying me back, just like the old days?

i just bought a JD LX277 aws, i didn't buy the snow at this time because it was only a 42" single stage blower.<br>
I have read that they are great in deep heavy snow but suck in lesser amounts. Does anyone have any comments on this setup?... of course i would outfit the tractor with chains and weights.....My driveway is approx, 500' with a turn around......would it be worth the $1300 the dealer quoted<br>

I would say it is in good to excellent condition for a 5 year old tractor with 200 hours. (Nothing wrong, but it is 5 years old and has been used so I guess it can't be excellent can it? Always stored inside if that matters...)<br>

I do not have chains. I think it is the way the snow was sticking to the tires,I can see where you might think I
had chains on. My drive is relatively flat and gets a lot
of sun. If I blow it off in the morn. I have bare tar
by the end of the day, So ice isn't an issue. I really
don't think they would be needed but in steep conditions.
It works very well without them. With the weight of the blower up, I was amazed how well it went out across the
lawn in a good foot of snow.

I feel the same way about body panels.
Plastic vs metal vs fiberglass.
Makes no differance to me as long as the panels hold up well and work the way they are supposed to.

I use heavy 2" straps. I generally try to not run them across anything. A strap rubbing against a tire for even a fairly short period can ruin it. Running a strap over sharp metal can destroy it instantly. <br>

I have special hook points on my tractor that work out well. I always hook at those selected points and run the strap directly to a tie down point on the trailer. If I wrap the strap around anything, it must be smooth and rounded. <br>

Chains work well but they have their downsides also. <br>

I live in NM and I don't think that things are as thoroughly inspected here as in the more populated areas. <br>

I don't consider myself an expert on chippers, but I own 4 of them. Merry-Mac chipper/shredder(3"chip 1-1/2"shred), SALSCO Stallion (4"chip 1"shred), DR 4" chip, and best of all a new VALBY CH140. I could go on and on about the VALBY. I run it with a B7200 KUBOTA (15 pto hp). A bit underpowered but with the selectable 1000rpm pto speed the chips fly and only slows down on 5" oak. Wishing for a few more HP soon but it will chip anything that can fit into its 6x12 throat. The sheared, dense, evergreens (christmas trees) it don't like (only manual feed), they have to be limbed first. I maintain about 24 mostly wooded acres with trails and paths. The coarse chips from the VALBY lock in nice and make a real good surface for the ATV's and hikers. After about 30 hours of chipper time the blades only needed afew quick strokes with a diamond pocket hone to put them back to paper-slicing sharpness. A bank vault comes to mind when I open the chipper housing...everything is overbuilt, and designed for industrial use. Easy to get to the parts for maintenance. The size of the knives and the 200+ lb flywheel are impressive. The best shaft bearing ever seen and the anvil adjust is precise and will hold the setting. I could go on and on. I also have the small Merry-Mac, and its a favorite too. I believe that the latest PRO model would be a winner too with its greater capacity. I'll respond to questions. You all helped me get my VALBY.

Murf, I think you hit on a major point. It's a little <br>
more demanding of a vehicle when the temps are 30 below.<br>
(not wind chill). Starting and cooling off several times a<br>
day in that weather yr. after yr.is a good test of quality.<br>
Not to mention the sand and salt and slush and ice,and the <br>
frost heaves and mud, and and why am I living here?

Same basic system as a BX 22.

Three cylinder 22 horse diesel and a three speed hydrostatic transmission. Not a rubber band (drive belt) in sight.

It's a 4 wheel drive, 1800+ pounds dry weight, oil bathed disc brakes all the way around and a hydraulic dump bed.

This may be slightly off subject, but, I�ve seen in different, but similar, applications where you have plate steel, the use of a hole and slot type of gizmo. Where you would have an 1.5� diameter hole with a 0.38� adjoining slot in the same direction as the load. You drop several links of chain through the hole, and then pull a link into the slot, where by the next link keeps the chain from pulling through. I would imagine that you would need to reinforce the hole with heavier plate if the bucket is fairly light gauge steel.

Anyone ever try something this?

Guys, check out this Iseki corporate site below. Click on "English," then "Products," and then the #5 or #7 tractor picture shown. There you will see that they do offer a standard PTO-driven FMM, in Japan. So it's been done, and I wouldn't be reinventing the wheel here...just trying to match their set-up. Thanks, Bill

Wise choice with the extra hydraulics. I always recommend buying MFWD, Hydrostatic transmission, and at least 2 scv's (selective control valves) if not 3 or 4.
The thing is, even if you think you will never use them... someday you might. And even if you never do... when you decide to sell it, the tractor becomes alot more appealing to many potential buyers with these options. The other thing to consider.. as long as a tractor is current production, you can always purchase these add on options at a later date. However, once a model is no longer current production the manufactors usually will stop making these kits available, because of low sales volume. Once this happens it because harder to find, and more expensive to buy these options. For example try to find a powerbeyond or a power steering kit to fit a tractor built just 10 to 15 years ago. It is not always easy. And some options can not be added later or are much cheaper to have installed at the factory, such as MFWD.
Just some thoughts.

As far as hydraulic options....
Two mid mounted (couplers) scv's with joystick control is what is needed for a FEL. Always buy the tractor with these even if you don't buy a loader.

The third and/or fourth SCV with couplers out the rear of the tractor are less important but still nice if you operate any attachments with a hydraulic cylinder such as a dumping bed on a wagon or trailer, or the very popular top and tilt links on the three point hitch. One the new 4010 JD series compacts this is available as a diverter valve mentioned earlier in this thread. It uses the same joystick to control the hydraulics. It is just a matter of where the oil is flowing to.. the front couplers to operate a FEL or to the rear couplers to operate the top and tilt on the 3 pt hitch. The diverter simply changes the flow of oil from one set of couplers to the other with the flip of a switch. The downside to this option is cost.

The final hydraulic option to consider is the powerbeyond.
This option would be used with any attachment that uses it own control valve such as a log splitter or backhoe.

Ok so now it has been over six months since I bought my L4630. So far I have been beyond impressed. This tractor is not only well built but there is not much I cannot do with this unit. <br>

I attached a BearCat PTO chipper(8") and have really been surprised with this as well.<br>

Looking back, the feedback on this board was wonderful. If you are considering a Kubota I would look into the L Series. Consider nothing less than a BearCat for a chipper.
