There was a recent thread entitled "4310 Exhaust Stack" in the John Deere Owning/Buying forum about modifying the 4310 exhaust to a vertical orientation. Apparently JD sells a kit for this. That thread will probably tell you what you need to know.

It is a hydraulic "tap" in the rear housing for hooking up rear aux hydraulics. It isn't absolutely necessary, you can hook up rear hydraulics from the front block, even with a FEL installed. It makes it easier and somewhat less expensive, and makes for a cleaner installation. It's nice to have, you don't have to run lines from the front block or the FEL valve to the rear of the tractor.

The center is the best place, providing the bucket is reinforced. Side hooks, if not loaded properly and equally will cause unnecessary wracking or twisting of the loader arms. You can actually overturn a heavily laden loader in the fully raised position whether the the hook is in the middle or not if the loader is canted to one side (it acts like a big pendlum). Even on flat ground---without even moving the machine---with one side hook used you can overturn the loader (don't ask!!!!!!!).

As far as u-joints at the front end you really can't use a single-Cardan or single u-joint as they are only designed to run at only a few degrees off parallel to the other end--otherwise you will get a lot of vibration which will be transferred back to the the tractor drive line. You might consider a double-Cardan joint which has two u-joints in a casting (expensive), or better yet a constant-velocity joint (balls in a socketed race) like a front-wheel-drive car has. I know that when my PTO power rake is lifetd at such an angle or turned at an angle out of design it feels like it will shake the tractor apart.

Do you have loaded tires? It sounds to me that the fluid could be that. That stuff rusts the rims quite bad. That happened on my MF135 and rusted the stem right out of it. The inner tube was rusted and melted to the rim and looked allot worse inside than out. An off brand rim isn't that expensive but does cut into the profit from the sale.

It definitely is a toss-up, since once you get started where do you stop if you just want to sell it.

Aquired a 89 L2050. Looking to put a FEL on it. The local dealer says too old, no stock. It origonally took a LB400. Koyker and woods dont list an adapter. Im handy and can adapt if neccesary but is this doable?

Could'nt pass up the opportunity to talk about the IHC Fast Hitch. I've been collecting Fast hitch equipment for several years. I'd have to wander thru my "Reserve Equipment Storage Lot", or as the wife calls it that "Blankety Blank Junkyard" to know for sure what all I've collected, but I know I have several different moldboard plows, rowcrop cultivators, carry alls, plus other stuff I've forgot. I grew up when the Fast hitch was popular. I've still got two 656 Farmalls with fast hitch, one completely restored for parade use only and the other I bought new in 1965 and we still use it almost daily. Between my Dad and I, I can remember 5 tractors we bought new with the old style planetary TA. To this date neither Dad or I have ever had a TA go out. The 65 model 656 that my son and I still use daily has the original TA with 6500 hours. Those were great old tractors I really don't know how many letter series and number series tractors I've got around, some parade ready, on down to boners. I could visit for hours on old Farmalls, but I do have to go to work, so I'll quit for now. Frank.

If your straps are labeled to DOT standards you will be fine with the straps. The DOT does have standards that would requir you to use a couple more. That is the angle that your have your straps to your machine. It is best to go straight over the machine to get maximun weight allowed by the strap and DOT. We all know that is not usually practical. We run straps or chains to tie down points.

When you get your hoe. I'd chain tractor at all 4 corners and put a strap over the bucket and one around the hoe bucket. The goal being when a DOT guy drives by he/she won't have to take a second look, because nothing wiggles and you have over killed it. You'll also know you are not about to lose it.

Art I suspect you are correct. I'm waitng for the BIG BLIZZARD now. Looks like March is comming in like a Lamb...

It has definately been a good winter for snow removal. I've only used scraper once and that was more for cutting down the snow pack.

I've spent time blowing back banks for neighbors that have run out of room to push.

This blower works good on all types of snow. I don't like the light powdery stuff. It flies all over. Gonna have a cab next year me thinks.

I bought a Jinma chipper about a month ago but am having some modifications done to it so I haven't actually chipped anything yet. I'll share my first impressions though. It appears to be a very simple, solidly built and functional chipper. At $1550 for a 6" chipper with blower it's pretty hard to beat.

The chipper flywheel is driven by a bunch of belts (8 I think) from the PTO. It also has a belt driven feed roller. From my research the weakest link on this chipper is the belts - you need to make sure they are kept adjusted properly, and the factory chinese belts aren't the best quality. The feed roller looks like it will pull in small material up to 2-3" quite easily, but for larger material you need to pull up a lever to raise the roller. According to the dealer chips fly out of the blower with tremendous force and blow a long way.

Parts seem to be available, and a lot of them are just off-the-shelf items. The bearings, pillow blocks, and pulleys are all available at places like graingers. Belts are available at NAPA. The blades are double sided and can be sharpened. One guy said he cross referenced them to another brand but I haven't verified that so I bought some extras. Most all the other parts can be repaired with a welder. One gripe is that few captive nuts are used so some repairs will be a bit awkward as you reach to hold both ends of the fastener.

I'm having three modifications done to mine before using it. I'm having the hitch modified to work with my JD I-Match and the fixed blower ejection tube modified so that I can rotate it in any direction. Lastly, the lever that raises the feed roller pulls against a heavy spring and it's a real back-tweaking operation to raise it. I'm modifying it with a foot-pedal which should be easier to work. Hopefully these mods will be done by the end of next week and I'll post pictures and my impressions of the chipper in operation.

Thanks for the info Clyde. I hate to admit I just read it...I've not had any problems with it since last spring and you know how it goes out of sight (and not broken) out of mind. I think it got asn air bubble in the fuel line the other day and I don't know which screw/slotted bolt on the injector pump is the bleed valve. I will first try cracking open an injector line and bleeding it that way. Anyway, I just ordered a an AC 5030 manual. Thanks again

I opted for the rear (extra) valve. The dealer told me on the right side next to your right hip there are 2 extra empty slots. That is where the control handle goes for that valve (in one of the empty slots. I will have to wait and find out for myself how it works, maybe I am not explaining it correctly, I think you guys know what I am talking about (just I dont ) LOL. dealer says its a great option to have so I figured I better just trust him and go with it. Heck he even bought me and my brother in law lunch when we met for the signing. Good deal eh? LOL
He is a heck of a nice guy, drove 45 min. to meet me so I did not have to go off the highway and out of my way on Sat. late afternoon. I was on my way up to the cabin and was hauling a car trailer. Actually he saved me a 125 mile round trip by coming out to meet me. I would say that that is a heck of a dealer, since his shop closes at 2pm and it was 330 when he met me on Sat. ?
(can you tell I am a bit excited?) the wait is going to kill me for the tractor to get in)
