Jeff, Have you considered replacing the grass with a mulch so that mowing is not necessary? You may be able to locate a free source of mulch. For example our local land fill makes mulch from dropped off tree limbs, leaves, etc. which they give away.

I think that's a good price for that tractor & loader. I recently bought a '96 755, 4wd, with a loader, no mower deck, & 400 hours, that is extra clean, for $12,400.00. You're getting more tractor, one year newer, & a few more hours, for $1.100.00 more. Obviously what part of the country you're in can be a factor as to what it's worth. I'm located in the midwest. Bought my tractor from around the Iindianapolis area. You didn't mention it, but personally I would hope it has the 4wd.I think you would prefer it, especially for loader work. If it is only 2wd, that might partially explain the good price. Lastly, everyone's different, but I've been real happy with the hydrostatic trans.

I find the easiest, fastest thing is a compact tractor (with cab obviously) with a snow blade instead of the bucket on the front loader. It clears just as fast as a truck, but will also do the sidewalks, stack snow, and spread salt/sand better than a truck. With the bucket re-installed (5 min. job) it will load trucks for off-site disposal. Come spring it will sweep the sand/salt residue away (just don't use a rotary broom, dust everywhere!!!) in record time.

Not necessarily a direct relation to your question, but people probably favor gears over chains, for two major reasons: Maintainance & adjustment.

Chain is lighter and usually less costly to repair/replace. Chains are more of a safety issue, due to a "minimum" of 2 pinch points and possible backlash when the chain breaks. Chains do handle abuse better in that they can operate with almost no lubrication, and other than excessive wear, they will usually keep going. Gears tend to overheat and "freeze up". Gears are virtually maintainance free, and require minimal or no adjustments. Unless excessive dirt/water/heat has been introduced, gears degrade very slow and require minimal or no fluid changes. All of that said, my vote goes to the Gear, I don't enjoy lubing chains and adjusting chain tension. Oh, and chains are usually noisier than gears. "> Gear driven tiller

I was going to try to put the flashers on the inside of the Rops bar, but that would have kept interfering with my shoulders If I was ever in a twisted position to see what is going on behind the unit. I have very broad shoulders, and they would definatly have taken a hard hit by the lights if they were reinstalled to the inside of the ROPS

First, thanks to all those that answered my first question and thanks to dsg and PaulB for the offer to try their equipment out. I live in Mass and can't take the time to travel that far. (I do have relatives in Pompey/Jamesville (Gates Road?) south of Syracuse and they have a bit of land. My brother-in-law even has his own bull dozer. I have used front chains only on my 1710 MFWD with no problems for the last 4 years.<br>Try tirechain.com for the chains. They seem to have great prices/selection.

Paul,<br>Again, IMHO, I would stay with a plastic tank. For a few reasons. First, 55 gallon drums are steel...steel rusts...rust clogs pipes and can mess up the ball valve seal. Usually ball valves are brass or plastic, either of those are softer than a flake of rusted steel. Secondly, your only indication of being empty is when the water flow stops. Plastic will allow you to see your water level, and maybe save a trip or two from the other side of the ring, because you didn't know you were almost empty. Thirdly, I would assume your ring is fairly standard with others I've seen. Given the opportunity, I would go larger than 55 gallons if you expect to use it quite a bit. You will be amazed how quickly 55 gallons can be laid down. I guess I wouldn't want to take the chance of something happening, because I wanted to save a few bucks. Especially when dealing with horses.

pete, the people who wrote back I believe are right, I'm a dealer in central N.Y. and would be glad to show the differances in gear to hydro to you.there are normally 2 to3 ranges in hydro drive tractors. In digging conditions normally low or second range is best. high range is meant as a traveling range. the unit you were using might have been low on oil, if multi ranged in the wrong range, or just not built for what you wre doing. There is new terminalogy out there called pick and carry. IT was first used with skid steers and is meant to pick loose loads and carry, NOT DIG! It doesn't mean people won't dig but it is not at it's best doing that. With a hydro if using the machine to it's fullest you dn't need to spin your tires to fill your bucket but yes your hydro will moan some, less if in the proper range. be more than glad to throw another two cent's out if need be just e-mail <br>

I bought an '81 750 last February. It's a two wheel drive with gear trans, no loader, and had 973 hours on it at the time. The ad price was $5500 for the tractor, a four foot harrow, and a five foot bushog. I didn't want the five foot bushog so I made an offer of $4500 for the tractor and the harrow. He took it with little hesitation. Hope this helps you a little.<br>Keith

When I bought my JD 870, I looked at a few 1920s. One was a 92 with 1100 hours with turfs and a loader and it looked a little beat the guy wanted 15000 and I offered 11000 He refused. I think that he still has it. I also looked at one at the local dealer and it had about 300 hrs on it with turfs and a loader for 17000 with no price dealing . He might have come down some. If the one you are looking at has a loader it should go for about 14500 to 17000. With no loader it should bring about 3000 less. Then it depends on who wants what worse. Do you want the tractor worse then he wants to get rid of it. If he has to sell for some reason and there aren't many buyers in your area then you are in the drivers seat. Enjoy the give and take.

I'm looking at a 4WD Kubota L4200 with cab(heat & A/C), 680 loader, Glide Shift Transmission (Hydraulic Clutchless Shift), creaper gear, dual remotes, radio, front/rear lights, front/rear wipers and R4 tires. It's got about 300 hours on it. I would also get a Woods 72

Just because a tire has 11.2x24 as the size on the tire doesnt mean a ll.2x24 in all brands of tires are the same diameter. While selling farm tires for forty year I have found tires are like womens dress sizes. Some brands are bigger than others. Firestone tires usually are larger than Goodyear. Premium grade tires are larger than economy tires. There are exceptions. Some import brands that cost much less than domestic are larger and weigh more than name brand domestic tires and perform just as well sometimes much better. Plus there are some imports not so durable that I wouldnt purchase. Any questions email me for courteous professional advice with a little touch of southern hospitality.<br>
