That is correct. The "50" series compacts all were offered in diesel only. They were excellent tractors. If they are maintained properly, you can realistically expect to get 8-10,000 hours out of these engines before overhaul. The only thing I would be wary of is the clutch. If the clutch is bad, it can cost as much as $2500.00 to replace. Be sure to check out the clutch operation before you buy. Make sure it does not slip under load and that you can engage the pto without scraping the gears with clutch fully depressed. If clutch operation is questionable, keep in mind price of repair when negotiating the price.

Just thought I'd toss in my experience with insurance, vs. woodstoves, etc. After having been with the same insurance carrier for 30 plus years they seem to have lost intrest in insuring farm or rural property by lettinng their service to the customer slip to nearly nothing, so we went shopping for another carrier. We found a general agent who can write for four companies who specialize in farm and rural coverage. these questions were asked by all the carriers he writes for. First is about the woodstove, none would refuse to cover, but the premium wsa higher, second at a rural rental house we rent out the tennants had a trampoline in the yard, none of them would even write a policy till the trampoline went away, third was ponds or swimming pools, all would write a policy if the pond or pool were fenced and supervised, but the rates were thru the roof. We did'nt have a woodstove, the trampoline did go away, and luckily we have neither a pond or pool, so we basicly had our pick of which carrier we liked best. This is in the upper midweat, maybe other parts of the country or other states have different insurance laws. Just my two cents worth. Frank.

I have an international 254 that seems to have been made by Mitsubishi. Used parts for it seem to be non-existent. I wonder if some Mitsubishi tractor is the same as the 254. I need a whole front wheel drive housing and differential.

Thanks Chief, but at $600 I'd probably just buy the Stihl. The Tanaka is ~$300-400 on ebay and in my research they have gotten good reviews but users were hard to find. We'll see, I'll stop at the local Stihl and Husky dealers the first of next week.

Mark - no I haven't. I think someone used a mechanical thumb who pulled some shrubs for my mother. I didn't see it but the guy who did the job told me he loved the attachment - that he found it very useful for a lot of jobs. I'm not nearly as knowledgable as others on this site. Maybe they have an opinion.

The arch looks identical to a PHD arch frame. I wonder if I can use mine and just order the top arm and adapter? I'll have to look into it a little closer. That just sounds too easy.

I,m not sure if I am in the right place on this thread, but to add an auxiliary valve with the FEL installed, go from power beyond on the FEL valve to the inlet on the aux valve. Power beyond on the aux valve back to the PB port on the hydraulic block. You will need to add a tee on the lower pressure return line, and have both the FEL and the aux valve returns connected to the return port on the tractor. Make sure the aux valve you add has a power beyond port. You need it to complete the pressure loop in the tractor hydraulics.

Looking at a 97' B20 with loader & backhoe. It has approx. 1000hrs on it.They are asking $13,800 for it but said they would take $13,000 for it.Was woundering if it would be a good deal..We just bought 51.5 acres for hunting.Going to be putting up stands,cleaning some ditches,making a few food plots,ect..thought it might be a good machine for that.Should I know anything else about a B20 that would be helpful? Thanks for your time..

I'm selling my 2000 B7500HST with top and tilt hydraulics. The tractor has 62.5 hours on it and comes with a LA272 Front Loader, a 48" Gearmore Box Scraper and a 49" Gearmore Flail Mower. What would be a fair asking price for this tractor?<br>

Trying to find out value and parts availability on Emco nodel 450 4-wheel drive loader/backhoe. Ford loader is 19-501 and hoe is 755 series. Other parts are Ford also. It has 24's all around, big machine, but old. Made in England I belive. Runs well but motor is pretty well used up. Any help? Thank you

This is not a criticism of Kubota, since obviously they are very successful and build very fine tractors, but when a manufacturer makes most of their own components it doesn't necessarily follow that all of their components are the best available. The best high performance automobiles and heavy duty trucks, for example, are built with components from different manufacturers around the world. No one company has the corner on good ideas, engineering, and manufacturing.

Many woodlot owners are moving into what they call slective harvest which provides a better woodlot management program. They do not like prospective logs chewed up with large skidders and are often using the horses or compact or utility type tractors to do the work of the skidders. The owners don't make as much per board foot but have nice looking woods that provide them a longer period of income with a more productive forest.

Ken, my experience with both is more in line with the different models we sold or had the experience with working on. The old IH model engines that were indirect were quite noisey incomparison to the direct injection models that followed but there was a time difference of the design. The swirl method that kubota uses in there indirect injection system is unique as well as patented and is not only quiet but does give them excellent cold weather startability compared to many other models and designs. I have my favorites on both sides but it is with other factors as well as the purposes of the engine. Noise as well as engine efficiency of the fuel being burned is becoming more and more critical as the emission standards of diesel engines get tougher. With many of the engines we are using exceeding the 10,000 to 15,000 hour window of life it should be fun to see how these news=er engines stack up.

Believe it or not. Deere makes a rear view mirror kit too! LOL! It mounts to the hand grips on the rear fenders. You can keep an eye on the RFM that way.

Ken does get some good ones out doesn't he! This is the most informative of the boards that I visit. It doesn't get as carried away in content and the police department is formed by all the members not just some choosen few that to know the truth about some of them you would wonder why and how they got there! Dennis has done a great job here with building a place for people to learn.
