You reaction is certainly understandable and I would have the same reaction. All brands seem to have awful dealers and employees who are bad reps. One of the reasons I have a JD is because the first Kubota dealer I went to didn't want to talk to me since I was only buying one tractor. A common theme among JD shoppers is the arrogance of the dealers, but I didn't run into that at my dealer. Since all of the major brands put out a good product I think the dealer is every bit as important as the tractor you buy, and you have every right to vote with your feet.

Subsequent to the last time we talked about this sub-CUT topic I spoke to an owner of a BX (at my dealer) who found a very good solution.

He had a frame made up which looks very much like a grill guard, in fact he says that's where he got the idea. The frame has 3pth mounts in the proper location & spacing for a BX, but then also has holes & pins that slip through them which conform to 'standard' Cat. 1 dimensions. The center of the frame is open so driveshafts pass through unaffected.

This allows him to use the existing Cat. 1 implements he already owns with his new BX and the one adaptor works with all of them. It does add a little weight but not enough to serious affect anything. Clever idea I thought.

John, that's EXACTLY what I was suggesting all along.

Now for the SECRET, the 'adaptor' is really only the same thing as is intended for mounting a pump to a gas engine for a logsplitter, etc., it is a standard 4 bolt pattern & size. One end mates to the bolt pattern on the gearbox, the hyd. motor will bolt to the other end, then all you need is the 3 piece 'spider set' that connects them. It is a pair of steel parts with fingers that mesh together while sandwiching a rubber isolator to prevent shock and vibrations from being transmitted. The steel parts are available in a variety of bore sizes to mate to the different shaft sizes involved, you can mix & match to your hearts content.

Most people who do this conversion just make a plate with the swivel joint that bolts to the side of the bucket, then you can swap sides as needed. This offset also allows for better visibility.

I have a 790 with 419 FEL. Had them for almost 2 years. I've used the FEL for digging and scooping dirt and hauling rocks with no problems. The first thing I did with it was to scoop out an access road down a 3' embankment into a creek on our property (so I could get rocks for landscaping). Also used it to pull old fence posts (wrap a strap around the post and the bucket and just lift the post straight out of the ground). Only thing I do is grease the fittings as specified. I do have the bucket level indicator rod which is real nice so you know when the bucket is level with the ground. Only problem I've had with the 790 is the battery leaking acid all over the place (it had the battery with 6 screw on caps). I finally went to Walmart and got a no-maintenance sealed battery to stop that problem (after cleaning and repainting the battery box area twice). This is a problem that other owners have also mentioned.

As far as "running up the hours" and 3 point splitters are "notorious slow", I have a little experience to share now.<br>

I am sure that the free standing units are faster, based only on their rated hydraulic flows. I have never actually seen one run to have some sort of comparison.<br>

The hydraulic flow on my 4115 is rated at 5 or 5.5 gallons per minute when you separate out the power steering system.<br>

That produces enough power to split a cord of wood in about 60 to 75 minutes.<br>

I'm not talking a face cord here....but a full 4x4x8 cord. and I am working at waist level, standing up. Not down on my knees.<br>

So, if I burn 5 cords a winter how much time am I running up on my tractor? Maybe 7 or 7.5 hours. A year. And fuel? It's just sipping, since it's not doing any real work.<br>

As far as tying the tractor down.... my splitter sits horizontally on the 3 point. If I want to use the tractor or FEL all I have to do is let go of the handle, get in the seat and drive away. <br>

My splitter weighs at least 300 pounds, so it is actually pretty decent ballast for hauling wood, which is not your heaviest load in the FEL.<br>

I guess I am not seeing any serious drawbacks at this point. It certainly takes less time to hook the splitter up to the 3 point and attach a couple of hoses than it does to futz with a gummed up carburetor that you haven't run for a year.

I would agree with Mowhoward that the 2210 loader, as well as the BX loader, are very handy and capable. I didn't build any bridges or ponds with the 210 loader, but was more than pleased (sometimes amazed) at what I could get done. The loader for the X just doesn't have the same capabilities as the sub-compact loaders (check the numbers out), and the X series tractors are not quite heavy enough to get full utility for the expense. You're on the right track. Pete

ITs not the limbs hitting the vertical stack the bothers me, its the ones that hit the stack, bow over then come back and snap me in the face that I don't like.

We've done lots of them in the past. There are two ways to do it, neither would be suitable for a 'universal' fit because of the wide variety of configurations.

The first is a formed plastic fender (covering the wheel from 12 o'clock and back down to about 4 o'clock), already available for full-size farm tractors, which mounts 'outboard' on the hub and follows the wheel as it steers and rises and falls with the axle. These are usually a real bear to fit to a CUT, but it can be done nicely with a lot of patience.

The second way is to mount a flexible rubber flap to a frame mounted to either the tractor frame or FEL frame and stays in a fixed position. This is the 'down 'n' dirty' way to do it. The theory is to just make a big enough obstacle that splatter can't make it past.

The nicest 'homemade' ones I've seen were made from plastic trailer fenders for a single axle unit. They are readily available, cheap and easy to work with. Being flexible also makes them more forgiving in use.

As a ball park figure; $1,500 give or take $500 depending on condition. If in pristine condition figure even more. If in really poor condition figure much less. You may do better with a buyer who collects older tractors like that.

hi guys, we recently purchased a 4310 and i put a used soft side cab on it, 2 negatives on it that ive noticed, one you get a real bad exhaust smeel from having the exhaust pipe point to the ground, i want to look into extending upwards, and two it is really noisy inside. other than that i love being warm has i am working outside, for my father though he'd rather not have it he likes it out in the cold!

I have a chance to sell my B6200 and move into a B8200 for little cash exchange, but I need to know the benefits. Is the B8200 frame different? How about overall weight? Can the 8200 handle larger 3 pt attachments?<br>

Wow, What a difference in the photo's quality.
This will definitely be a big help when getting into some discussions on making modifications and having quality photos to help show what one is trying to say. The ole saying " a picture speaks a 1000 words."
I guess I will out taking some more photo's and trying it out this weekend when we are actually supposed to get some warm weather.45+ degrees ( Heat wave )
It is kinda hard to take pictures with gloves on.
