You have to read the description carefully, it says "Its HEAVY METAL CASTING has been replaced by a lightweight plastic...".

They are talking about the weight reduction of just one component, not the whole generator.

If your tractor has a quick attach plate, you can probably use the PHD that will fit on any skid steer. Look at the flow rate on the hydraulic motor and make sure that your tractor can handle it. You will probably need an extra hydraulic circuit running to the front of the FEL frame with quick disconnects. (This could also be an extention of an existing Power Beyond circuit.)

I have used these diggers with skid steers and the visibility is good since the hole is directly in front of where you sit, but on a CUT, I think that the visibility would be better with a rear mounted unit. Most of those will be PTO driven and work quite well. Buy a quality unit and I think that you will be pleased.

Scott, Randy, I agree a hand pump works just fine. The only problem is you can't be farther than an arm's length from the pump.

With an 'automated' pump (of any type) you can stand at the business end and watch the filling process carefully. This makes it a whole lot easier to prevent spills since you know exactly what level the fuel is at. Electric pumps work good, but require a power source, etc., all I need to pump a barrel of fuel is a small air tank.

Yooper, never mind California, your lucky you don't live in Canada, up here the fumes give you cancer in English and FRENCH, it's twice as bad for you.....LOL.

I grew up on a farm. I had an aptitude for the equipment and eventually worked at and eventually ran a farm equipment business for seven years.

I think that you will find that most of what you will need to learn is about business and working with people. Others here have said essentially the same thing. Your customers will be varied from farmers to landowners to landscapers to industrial plants. You cannot be an expert on all the applications, so learn what you can and especially, know your product.

You will not be able to please everyone every time.

Water/antifreeze mixtures can be less than half the weight of a good calcium mix. Personally, I don't think that it is worth putting fluid in tires unless you really get a good weight benefit. I agree with F350 about the rear metal wheel weights. That may be your best choice.

R4 tires are pretty stiff in the first place, and R1 tires may be better for your mud, but R4s are good for harder surfaces. I am not sure that you will get much benefit by lowering the pressure in an R4, but it is worth a try. Be careful if you have to travel on any sideslopes, however, because low tire pressure can make it easier to have a tire come loose from the rim.

As far as traction is concerned, I am assuming that the rear tires are slipping rather than the fronts. You might need to experiment with 2WD to determine this. If you have trouble steering and general traction, loading up the bucket might help. But, if it seems that the rears are just slipping, then rear weight or another more agressive R1 tire may be the answer. With a rear draft load, you want most of the weight on the rear tires. Torque coupled to the ground through the rear wheels will tend to lift the front end or make it lighter. 4WD will restore steering and add traction when the front gets lighter.

I agree, I think the content here is a little more on-point, there is more technical, thought-provoking stuff.

We get the odd, "Where's the best place to mount a cup holder?" question, and a few 'politically sensitive' thread but for the most part it is usefull, common-sense information and advice.

I think the content changes with the seasons so at this time of year it gets pretty thin since few people are doing much with their equipment yet, with the coming of spring that will change I'm sure.

I guess the first thing to make painfully clear is that retaining walls are (or should be) like icebergs, only a small portion is actually visible. If that's not the case then the retaining wall will lean, shift, and eventaully tumble over.

You don't say so, but it sounds like you have an 8' change in grade that actually runs in two directions. It slopes down along the house wall to the walk-out, plus it slopes down to match grade going AWAY from the house. If this is the case the job will be a lot easier since you will have a 'ramp' to drive up to get to each wall, that being the terrace for the next wall.

While large random boulders (BFR's) can be used to build a wall they present several problems; placing them, ensuring they are well supported to prtevent future movement, filling the gaps between them, and finishing the top edge. Especially in a case where it next to your house you will want a way to bring turf right up to the edge, and still be able to easily maintain (cut) it. Likewise at the bottom, you will want to be able to cut right up to the lower edge. Irregular surfaces do look nice, but their a bugger to maintain.

As for the physical aspects of it, a 2-3' BFR is a heavy object, if it's a granitic type rock they could easily be 2,000+ pounds each. They are best placed with either a sling on a crane or a big excavator with a thumb, the latter being the easiest and fastest.

It's a pretty big job for the average DIY'er but far from impossible. It can be reduced a big by keeping some slope above and below and just build two 3' walls using up the other 2' in slopes. This will also look more natural.

As I stated above with the 'iceberg' comment, the prep. and footings are critical. A BFR that big needs at least a two base of large (1"+) crushed stone, well compacted, beneath it to keep it from moving. Drainage behind is equally important, water cannot be allow to filter out through the wall, it will cause erosion and de-stabilize the wall.

If the wall's are not going to be very long I would highly recommend using a precast concrete product. The time (and money) you will save building the walls should more than make up for the cost of purchasing the procuct. Precast would be a VERY easy DIY project, especially given the equipment you already have. You would only need to rent couple of small items to do a first class job.

I doubt if anyone questions the fact that diesel engines will get better milage than gasoline engines. I can say that with confidence on pretty much every brand. They also do better with towing. But, the question that started the thread was how the 6.0 gas engine does. There have been over a dozen threads devoted to various brand diesel trucks.

You will have to work through the recorded "automated attendant" pushing a series of numbers on your phone to get to the right people. Once you get somebody, let them know you have a "NEW" tractor with chronic problems. Make sure you write down the name of your advisor. They will also issue you a case numer.

Pete - Just to let you know, I did call this phone # and the lady that took the information didn't even want to know all the problems (only the latest one). And, when I asked if John Deere could do anything for me, because of all these problems, such as extending the warranty at no charge, she told me 'no'. John Deere will extend my warranty only if I pay for it. I never even got a 'sorry' or anything. I was not impressed.

So, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that this tractor stays working, and look into buying the extended warranty.

I cannot recomend getting your lubricants from any mass merchant. You would be amazed at what the mass merchants get by with get by with.

All the bx tractors I seen had the wiring and fuse just hanging in front of the oil filter. The first thing I done was remove the cowl and tie them up.

Dennis- it seems I did not have existing software which would enable the EasyPhoto to run, went to Java site, grabbed latest Java stuff and it's a done deal, nice program, solves the big picture problem for many apps, especially sending to a non-broadband user

I think 'at low LOADS we run very lean' would be more accurate. Then with less oxygen available, it would seem there would be less heat produced and less maximum power at any rpm.

Have L3010 with GST / just ordered a tiller for it from my Kubota dealer. Has industrial tires so I went with a 60" with offset feature to shift unit outside of tire track on one side.<br>
Question I have relates to speed while in use.<br>
Kubota shows an optional set of "creeper" gears for the GST transmission with a note that this is good for "deep tilling". I questioned the salesman about the forward speed while using the tiller on my unit without creeper gears and was told I would be O.K. with tranny in lowest gear while at PTO operating speed 2670 rpm<br>
Factory literature says forward speed (at PTO rpm) is just under 1 mph. Creeper speed is .11 or .15 mph - a lot slower.<br>
I am not necessarily doubting the salesmans advice however there seems to be a LOT of difference in forward speed between the two setups. Anyone have any thoughts or personal experience with the 3010 GST and a tiller ?<br>
Anything I should know before I start ripping up the countryside ?<br>

It just started out as a casual roll around the yard; I thought I could straddle that ditchline to mow it. (I was wrong) At least I didn't try it with the mower on. My neighbor pulled me out with his Fergie 30.
