It's funny that you mention the co-relation between age and boating tastes. I seem to have a differnet take on that philosophy.

While wintering in Florida or summer boating on the great Lakes I started with the fishing boat, then moved upscale to the express cruiser so that I could fish in comfort, travelling north to south was a pain, then I moved up to the 'tub' for full on luxury, and travelling north to south was nearly impossible.

Then I got smart. I got the big fast stink boat. Travelling anywhere is a breeze, it sits behind my dually quite happily. Now when I want luxury I can be at the finest resort in just a few hours, if the little lady wants to go to Florida (from our base in Nassau) it's only a 1.5 - 2 hour ride. If I want seafood there are over a dozen other islands within a two hour radius. Cuba is only a few hours away also.

Just a little tip. Being at the landscaping business for decades I learned to carry a plastic machinists hammer for unloading pressure on the male fitting's plunger. Basic rules of thumb: power off, operate valve to relieve pressure, never look directly at the connectors, wear safety glasse, then break the connection. Why the hammer? Some implements if left for a few days, like a hoe on its stabilizers, settle down on their cylinders causing back pressure on the line too great to overcome by making the connection by hand. Point the male connector away from you in a safe direction, and with your glasses on rap the center plunger to drive it open. Big squirt of fluid about ten or so feet, pressure off, make the connections easily. Some manufacturer's designs are better than others, my equipment is a mix from at least 6 brands, but as long as the shoulders/o-rings are a match then you'll be able to get flowing.

I have only used a suspended deck on a lawntractor. I prefer the contact mower as it seems to cause less scalping. Also on the suspended deck I used, the parts suspending it were subject to a lot of wear and tear which caused the cut to be off but I imagine that Kubota has a much stronger setup. I would go with the larger ground contact deck just to get more width outside your tires which helps when mowing around stuff.
As far as the dynamo, I don't think you would need the alternator unless you are adding a cab or a lot of lights.

I wouldn't try it. I looked over my owner's video and then read my owner's manual, and although I have a 48 hoe on a 4610, the method is the same. I am worried this condition may lead to a headache for you if you tackle it wrong. Why do so many folks who come here feel compelled to solve these kinds of issues themselves when they have a dealer to go back to. Make the dealer show you, make the dealer responsible, not you. If the adjustment goes sour on his dime then he 'owns' the obligation to make it right. If you do it wrong? He may tell you to take a hike. Be firm, be polite, be patient, and he'll work with you to your satisfaction.

I get many calls from homeowners who have purchased new homes or building lots that are never landscaped beyond the very rough stage. Usually, the land is clear in the immediate area around the house but is treed and full of brush everywhere else. For insurance purposes, I sub-contract tree removal, and use several brush cutters to flush cut the small stuff. I then, depending on the acreage, call in another contractor with a D6 LGP and Rome rake. He fingers out all the stumps, I then use the grapple to load his tri-axles. It realy excells in this work. I either rent a Vermeer SC252 to grind out the biggest stumps the D6 won't take out or dig them out with the hoe. The 460/grapple and 4610 will lift a ton over the rail of a tri-axle, something neither my CC7275 or L35 could do. The Borgford has a big advantage because of the many tines (teeth?), it doesn't leave much on the ground. Thanks again KW for the tip!

The tires in this case are not loaded -- yet another thing I got here from either Mark or TomG, one of y'all suggested EZ-Weights, and I love 'em!

The latest is that I ordered duo-grip v-bars from tirechains.com, they're supposed to arrive today (ironically UPS hasn't been coming up our road due to conditions!).

When I went down to the cycle shop to get ice screws for the front, the ones they had were 1/2". They had _very_ broad flanges around the head, which I liked, and the heads were large and sharp, so that all looked good. But the threads were not as coarse as I'd have liked, and with only 1/2", I took a pass.

So I went to the Harley shop -- they didn't have any in stock, but could get them the next day. But a combination of the guy there talking about people losing them and then horses picking them up (we don't have horses, but the neighbors' draft horses are here all the time) and my worries about strain on the front end in 4-wheel has me postponing that part of it. I'll probably end up getting them for steering, but one thing at a time.

So when the chains get here, I'll see how it goes with those -- it's snowing right now, and there's plenty left from previous storms. I have a couple of woodpiles to try to get to through some snow, and I'm outta wood due to the cold January we had. That and normal snowblowing/scraping will tell me a lot in the next week.

Congrats on the new machine. I would just echo the comments about checking your machine out when it is delivered. If there are any major problems, don't accept the tractor. If there are minor issues just note them on the paper you sign. Although you may be anxious to take delivery of your new machine, make sure you get what you paid for, an awesome orange machine!!!

Fifteen acres is a big parcel to be cleaning up by hand unless the trees were pretty sparse. Some woods don't decay quickly, but if you pile the slash and knock it down with a chainsaw the increased moisture in the pile will aid decomposition, as will the addition of a fertilizer containing nitrogen. Machine piling and burning is of course the fastest, but 4 men with chainsaws can knock down a good amount of slash per day, just walking through and cutting everything that sticks up too much, and any branches that keep the main trunk off the ground.<br>

My 3130 Operator's Manual shows 3 possible rear tread widths for the rear 420/70-24 R4 tires. They are 52.2, 53.5, and 57.7 inches, measured center to center.

The instructions are:
1) Remove the wheel rim and / or disk mounting bolts.
2) Change the position of the rim and / or disk (right and left) to the desired position, and tighten the bolts.
The Manual has an illustration to clarify the positions.

The bolts should be tightened to 160 ft-lb, drive 200 yards/meters and re-tighten.

On my 3130 with R1's I swapped the rims left to right to keep the directional tread properly oriented.
Jack and securely block the rear axle. Keep the space between tire and floor to a minmium, allowing just enough room to get a pry under to aid in remounting. If your tires are liquid loaded they could be a real handful, and extra hands or a mobile tire service might be an option.

Front tread width on four wheel drive models is not adjustable.

The extra stability at maximum width is amazing.

Check the multi-ganged plug for the combo voltage regulator/rectifier unit located on the firewall for high resistance or open connections. This unit is an aluminmun block with fins.

As long as we're talking about vertical exhausts....I've got one on a 3000DT that can't be lowered simply by re-orienting it to the exhaust manifold. Anyone know what options (if any) are out there to make it horizontal??

Thanks again for the advice fellows. You were right the dealer was non responsive to replacing the battery. However when the glow plugs have the juice from an 850cca battery the tractor starts much better,cleaner and stronger.

I can only confirm prices on what I have bought or what quotes I have in hand. Your prices seem about right overall<br>
and your point being that they are not cheap, and are more expensive than mechanical lift systems (2500 series). I was quoted a tiller with hydro lift for my machine for $2250, which I have in writing. For me its not a consideration to pursue because I'm using another device but when I got the machine I was looking hard at it. I have the blower, weights & hitch and your prices were close on that. You can see my pictures on my profile..<br>
Look at this way anybody who buys a 2004 3204 gets it for less than what we paid for it plus get more HP !! <br>
Overall it will be a real good year for Cub because their 2500 series is a strong machine, as well as the 3204 being lower priced. <br>

Just to let everyone know. The first batch of the lights are going to be built very shortly. They are slightly different than the protype(see my pics). I am selling them for $225(subject to change) plus shipping. It will fit the b1700, b2100, b7300, b7400, b7500, b7800, b7410, b7510, b7610, b7810, b2400, and b2410. I haven't built any for the bx or L series yet so the price might be higher for the bx or L series. Send me an email if you want one built.

Nice place Wildman! I have been looking for something similar to what you describe but the masts I find are all measured in inches. I have decided to dry-dock one more season to get the craft where I want her, so I have the summer to manufacture one if I have to.

Woods and Buhler (FarmKing) are both good mowers. The Woods is a bit heavier construction, but slightly higher priced. If you have a JD dealer near by, you can look at their "Frontier" line. They have a Heavy-duty line (made by woods) and a light duty line (made by befco)of finish mowers.
You might also consider a belly mount finish mower, if mowing around alot of obstacles. With the belly mount mower, if you turn the tractor right... the mower goes right. With a rear mount mower however, if you turn right.. the mower will swing to the left. Could cause damage to fences or small trees if not cautious while making tight turns. Mid mount mowers are easier for less experienced tractor operators to operate. You can look down and see the mower, instead of having to look back. Just something to consider. Belly mount mowers however, do cost more and are not as easy to install and remove as a 3 pt mower.

There was a movie out about the bully thing. The nerd kid was a science teacher or something and the bully was the shop teacher or something and started the picking on as an adult too until the kid stood up. I think the bully's name was fang (I think he was played by Tom Arnold). The nerdy guy was played by the guy who was in "Honey I shrunk the kids" (can't think of his real name).

Can you push the clutch pedal in and will it release? Do you feel spring pressure when pushing the clutch pedal and can you feel the throw out bearing contact the pressure plate fingers? It could be the input shaft is frozen in the pilot bearing in the flywheel.
