Hey, Tim. Just wanted to share a little of my experience and let you know that your dealer sounds like he's going to take care of you but is pretty pessimistic about what the company may do. Based on what you have listed as past problems, it seems more than reasonable that you should ask for, and receive, an extension to your warranty. Remember, you were never really delivered a "NEW" tractor as defined in your purchase agreement. In addition to the express (written) warranty on you tractor, JD (and all consumer companies) has/have an obligation to deliver a fully functioning (as advertised and promised) product. This is termed an "Implied Warranty of Merchantability." <br>

First, you need to contact the JD Customer Complaint Center (CCC) at 1-800-537-8233. You will have to work through the recorded "automated attendant" pushing a series of numbers on your phone to get to the right people. Once you get somebody, let them know you have a "NEW" tractor with chronic problems. Make sure you write down the name of your advisor. They will also issue you a case numer.<br>

Diplomatically explain your trials and tribulations including all the stpes the dealer has taken. Let them know exactly what you expect: An exttension to the warranty of your machine based in the documented warrantable problems encountered since you took delivery of a NEW machine. Let them know that if they cannot extend your warranty that you expect a new machine at nominal depreciation costs. I would also suggest you put you complaint in writing (in a very positive tone) clearly itemizing what your expectations are as far as the extended warranty goes.<br>

Play it by ear from there, but also insist on a reply within a reasonable time; say, 30 days. You might also take the diplomatic sep of letting your dealer know that you appreciate all of his effort, but that it seems that there are too many issues with this particular unit to expect a normal tractor worklife from a very expensive investment. Copy your dealer on the letter to the CCC, and watch the wheels turn. If this doesn't work out, you've done what you can. If you have ANY more problems, JD will be already on notice and you will save yourself some aggravation.<br>

Put it in writing, and good luck. I worked a deal on problems smaller than yours with a leaky 2210, and I must say I am pleased with the support I got from both my dealer and the CCC. If they won't extend the warranty and you are still dissatisfied, you might offer up $20-$30 per hour in depreciation costs to get a brand new machine. I did, and I'm operating a new machine now at a nominal cost for my time using the equipment. Everybody felt it was a fair resolution. Pete <br>

I tested out the block heater today. I use it to preheat the engine prior to start to minimize the smoke and warm up time.

If you use it for this purpose; it takes about 1 - 2 hours to warm the engine up nice and toasty in your garage. I left mine plugged in for about 1.5 hours and that was plenty.

If you have the tractor outside it may take 2 - 3 hours or more depending upon how cold it is outside. In severe cold weather give it about 4 hours.

I would say the $55 is money WELL spent on one these block heaters.

I am signing the deal next week, I found the price!! After 13 e-mails, 14 letters and one trip to a dealer, I recieved the offer that beat all others dramatically.

Earthwrks, is your Bobcat grapple the three tine model or the industrial model? Although either would be quite useful I don't think they are an apples-to-apples comparison to the Borgford grapple since the designs are quite different. The Borgford is wider than the three tine and and doesn't have a bucket like the industrial. Bobcat sure has a lot of neat attachments available though. A universal skid-steer mount is sounding better all the time :)

I purchased a 3510 TLB 2 months ago in Ohio. I build houses for a living and needed a good utility tractor. I was looking at the blue, green & orange tractors, but was disappointed in their weight, and of course....price tag!
I found a local dealer looking to unload a tlb in his inventory and went to look at it. Needless to say, I came home with it! I have truley been amazed at what this tractor will do.. I recently put an 8 ft boom on the loader and used it to move 16' long..prefabricated wall onto a trailer...went to the site...and used it to erect them into a walkout basement wall. Beleive me...counterbalance means alot when doing loader work.
This tractor has had to start on 0 degree mornings without putting up a fight!
I did have a shuttle shift linkage that the pin broke on...so I called the dealer & he immediately ordered me the part. Since I live 2 hours away, I agreed to do the repair myself, & he faxed me the instructions! Great service!
Need a recommendation for the Branson....I'm your Man!

I live in lower Michigan and do snow plowing---keep the plow truck. A tractor will slip sideways when plowing (not to mention safety, warmth, speed, etc.) . I have NH 33D that I use for my excavating biz--so I'm compact tractor fan (the tractor alone cost me $13,500 without a cab). I have used backhoes (tractors in this case) to plow snow and they are great for plowing straight ahead but not around stuff.

Sounds like you may want to go with a skidloader instead. I have the LS180 New Holland with 2-speeds--it is quick--about 13MPH. Tipping load rated at 5,500 lbs. You can get trip-edge plows for dirt or snow (BOSS makes one for trucks and loaders). I have $32,000 into the 180 but you can get a smaller 170 for $22,000. You can order a heated all-weather cab conversion for about$1800.

For filling trenches there is an auger attachment that forces the spoils back into the trench as you ride along side.

My only contacts so far have been with the Land Use people who do county road maintenance. I'll have to move up the ladder. Good idea on the school bus safety angle. I should really talk to one of the neighbors who just HAS to have an in with the county. After all, he built a new house on an unbuildable lot, was able to cut in his driveway without an access permit, and was able to get an occupancy permit without meeting forest stocking requirements. All this and not a single word said by the county when they were all over everyone else for the same issues.

Brokenarrow: We don't work on the Folding ROPS's so no help there, sorry. I imagine that your idea of a line from the front of the tractor to the top of the ROPS is close to their design ideas. (Art?)

What I would suggest to you is go to your dealers and see if you can get a demo unit to try for a day or two. Compare the two or three units you are considering, then buy the one you like the most. I personally like the two pedal hydro controls on the JD better than the treadpedal on the Kubota, especially after running them for several hours. The JD also has turning brakes on the left side for easy brake assisted tight turning. Also the hydraulic on the JD make for faster cylcle times if you plan to do alot of loader work.
But I also think both the JD and Kubota are good, reliable machines. And I am sure you would enjoy either one of them. Good luck with your tractor purchase.

Just a little info here to consider......just sold my last 654 Allied(chinese). I can't get another of this model as the factory has signed agreements with New Holland to mfg. exclusively for them. The 654 was a large tractor and not a Jinma, it was 65hp. Another point of interest, if you seach the net you can access the actual court briefs on the lawsuits by New Holland and John deere against the chinese tractors. These Chinese tractors are causing more problems for the brand name tractor companies than they are the consumers. Not bad tractors at all folks.
