wbowhunt, This fall was the first time I tried the bow so I know relatively little compared to most. Even though I was skunked this fall with the bow it made me a better all around deer hunter. I really started studying and understanding their patterns more. And I have different stands planned. The ones I put out this fall were better gun stands than bow stands. Oh yes, I would be very happy with the buck in your pictures too. :-)

IIRC, it was less than $100. Bad River will sell you a drawbar, but I just bought a 26" drawbar at the dealer so I didn't have to pay to ship it. You will also need some iMatch bushings to match up the diameter of the pins - JD will sell you genuine official iMatch bushings at $15-20 each, but you can also buy regular bushings set one inside the other to build up the diameter at less than a buck each. If you want I can look up the part numbers of the cheaper bushings. I keep a bunch on hand.

I thought the orig. question was about chains on a steep gravel drive with drop off's. Sounded like a little safety
concerns to me. No the chains are not softer,but there are drawbacks to all solutions. I figured he was leaving some
snow behind as he is blowing a gravel road. Don't see where
studs would do much. If I was concerned about taking a ride
down over the bank I would put up with the ride. A set of chains with loops every 2-3 inches will ride better than
every 10-12 ", you are constantly on chain,instead of bouncing from tire to chain. He also wanted something for the woods. Just my opinion from my experience.

From what you post; I would recommend a John Deere 4710 equipped with Curtis Cab. It will handle all of the attachment you specify with great aplumb. Where are you located??? I can put you in touch with the John Deere Regional Government Sales Manager who can sell your municipality the equipment you want at the Government Sales pricing schedule. Is this going to be a sealed bid or direct special purchase?

I think a dealer can make or break a deal. There are many other primary issues in my book, Creature comforts, reliability, availablity, etc etc, pending the area you live in, if you the option at both red and blue, I would take a serious look at both, but I would also ask the RED dealer to talk with or meet some of the guys in the shop. They are the one that will actually be working on your machine. See if they love thier job as much as the sales men do. One thing to consider is ask for a referal. Yes they should be able to give you the name of someone else they have sold to in the last year. Not someone within the couple seeks. Ask them how service was after the sale. I often get that little birdie warning that if something is just to good to be true, dig a little deeper. Just a thought.

dutchk, I ordered my block heater from the John Deere dealer. I would recommend that you contact your dealer and see what block heater is specified. My guess would be that their is either a threaded drain plug you would put the block heater in or a knock out type freeze plug that you would remove and install a threaded adaptor in place to install the block heater. You dealer should have the specific info.

It would seem that the issue with the GST is an inability to change the engagement time for varying engine RPM. At high RPM with any clutched vehicle you would slip the clutch more (more engagement time) if you were reving the engine. If that time is fixed with the GST, it would have to put more stress on all components in the drive line at high RPM than at reduced RPM.

I see you say you have a mountaineer. I have a 96 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition with V-8 and AWD. Does yours have the climate control (you set the temp you want the car to maintain inside and it turns the heat on and off to maintain)? Anyway mine went out and when I took it to the shop the guy said Ford was having a lot of problems with this climate control and said the whole heater box would need to be replaced at a cost of $700 due to the amount of labor involved to remove it. I did some checking and indeed there are some issues and what this guy said is legit. I just thought I would give you a heads up on this. Mine gave some brief notice before going out completely but I didn't really pay any attention until it went out completely. It's tough when the week your 4X4 is in the shop and you get 24 inches of snow plus ice to boot. But not having the 4X4 caused me to get better plowing snow with the FEL on the tractor since the car needs better plowing to get out.

I have a MF GC2300, which is pretty comparable to the BX2200/2230. MF now makes the GC2310, which includes the backhoe. I have not brush hogged with mine, mainly because my mid-mount mower has handled anything I've put in front of it. Depending on what specificially you landscaping consists of, be aware you don't have a heck of a lot of clearance with the 2210/2230/2300 tractors. <br>

I've got a couple other "Doh!" findings with mine that might be of interest to you. There is no position control on 3PH implements, other than you manually setting the position by eye every time you lower an implement. Implements in this size class tend to be a little light, thus subject to floating, which has been a little frustrating for clearing snow with the backblade, for example. I'm under 6 feet tall and the 3PH lever comes in right under my right knee when I'm seated on the tractor. When I'm running the treddle peddle and trying to keep an eye on / adjust implement height, that gets a little annoying. Finally, the fuel fill opening on the GC2300 is pretty small. Minor but aggravating when jockying around 5-gal fuel containers. These are things I didn't think to pay too close attention to BEFORE I bought. <br>

Complaints aside, it's a great little tractor. Does a great job mowing and it's been a lifesaver this winter for blowing snow. The front-mount blowers are expensive, but they work great!<br>

Most importantly, regardless of what kind of tractor you buy, find a dealer who is fair and reliable and with whom you feel comfortable. They're NOT all the same. Good luck!

I know what the rake is used for, it just seems 84" is really pushing it for that small of a tractor.

your method of connecting the plumbing for aux valve is correct. I did the same on my B2710 only I used the rear block which you don't have. I used a 3-spool Prince SV valve. Since flow is onlt 6.4gpm these valves work well.

I remember reading an article somewhere (maybe readers digest) about a woman who was using a large farm tractor with some type of implement on the back (it may have been a sprayer of some sort with arms folded up. When she was finished, she was crossing a road and the boom caught the power lines. She tried to jump to safety (I believe the electric current was melting the tires on the tractor), but the current jerked her back against the side of the tractor and eventually killed her from electrocution. Have you heard of that before Tom? I have heard of current jumping but was wondering if it could pull you in so to speak? There is no way they are going to get the power shut down in time to save someone, so it would seem like it would be hopeless.

I'd recommend taking the crank to a shop that does truck/farm engine rebuilding and get an opinion. If the crank isn't junk they should be able to recondition it. You might wish to grind all the journals to a standard undersize if there is appreciable wear. I'm thinking a new crank would be big$, and a used engine might be 'used-up'

Always something to learn here. I'm curious what the regenerative line on some Bota's does. I'm guessing it's HST related. I think Art's comment brings up a terminology issue. A traditional way of classifying valves is that the 'ways' is a count of the number of ports and the 'positions' is a count of the functions on the operating lever. Under that classification, a conventional single spooling valve would be a 4-way/three-position valve. Kubota may have a different way of classifying their valves.
