If you stud your tires what are you going to do in the spring?<br>
You will need another set and the job of changing them.<br>
I think you would be way ahead of it by putting on a <br>
set of ice chains. The ride issue should be min. with a set<br>
of chains with enough chain. In other words very little<br>
space between the loops. I don't think studs will give <br>
you much in packed snow. I think they do best on glare ice.<br>
Guy's that work in the woods around here put on Ice Chains.<br>

No preheating is done on the tractor and it doesn't have a heated garage. It starts fine in temperatures down to -15 C, and I let it warm up slowly.

My belief is modern engines and oils are designed better for colder temperature starting unlike older engines. For example the rule for our plane is you don't start it without preheat if the temperature < 0 C - aircraft engines haven't changed in 40 years or so. The aircraft engine is also 'designed' to use oil (about 1 litre every 8-10 hours).

No question that a block heater would improve matters, but I haven't had any problems so far except for the one -20 C day (and that was before using diesel conditioner that we discussed in previous post)

That price is under list by a ways, but a couple hundred more than we charge for the package here on the west coast. So I'd say it's a decent deal, but you might make an offer just a little lower and see what happens.

I've used both and I doubt that cold rolled steel would ever be as good. The steel gives you a blunt edge which also hinders digging.

I agree with Wbowhunt, If your area is like most the target animal is a buck, I would venture to say that most if not all areas are out of wack on the doe/buck ratio. Ideally it should be one buck for every two doe's, but in this day and age that is a fantasy. I have no prob with a guy who wants meat (leaves more bucks to grow!) If meat is what you WANT shoot a doe, if a nice adult 3 1/2 year old comes buy, you get your cake and eat it too!

Sometimes deer need a few seasons to learn how to like Brassicas especially (turnips and rape) After the first frost is when they start to sweeten up. It is a fail safe crop and dont take a whole lot of effort to produce, (pretty drought tollerant). Once the deer learn what a turnip tastes like and what it doea for them they will live in the field. If I remember right alfalfa is not very digestable as for what actually goes into the deers system and utilizes. give brassicas a chance to work and when other fields have a 8" of snow on them you will have a mine field that is great for late season. Also dont forget winter wheat. (JAT)

I spun a rod bearing and it ate up the journal beyond what can be turned.

It looks like I am going to get the crank welded up and then turned back down. I am a little skeptical of welding a crank but for $150 - $200 it sure beats $1000+ for a new one.

That is why I was asking if anyone had a used crank or engine.

I would recommend that you look on e-bay and note the number of bids, or the lack thereof, on various tractors that you might be thinking of importing. To become a dealer for Asian tractors, in some instances, only requires that you buy a container of tractors and start selling them. Lots of folks have done just that. Time will tell, but my observation is that the market is saturated and not as profitable as it once might have been. If I am wrong it will not be the first time. Lots of luck.

sshuma your power beyond is plenty to run an average size splitter. I really do not have a preference for a 3ph they are all about the same. Now if you build your own that is another topic.

I am building a large splitter and intend to run it from the power beyond for a while. Murf has a cool idea so I am shopping for a small 2-3 cyl diesel with a BIG pump.

Actually this would be the first negative comment I have ever heard about Gravelys..quite surpising since they are well known to be long lasting and reliable...why they are not around wasnt based on their lack of quality..<br>

This information is for those Jinma owners and dealers that are interested. About two years ago the Jinma factory sent some specs. to one of the dealers regarding the capacity of the ZL-20 loader. The factory said it was 7.06 cubic ft. I wasn't convinced that was correct. I did a rough measurement myself a few months ago and I came up with about 8 cu. ft. I measured it again today and tried to be very precise and exact. Subtracting 1/2 gallon for spillage, I came up with 62.06 gallons = 8.3 cubic ft. level. I know it's no big deal, but I wanted you to have the correct information. Thanks.<br>

If the valves are still available 2200 valve is cheaper the B2013 three way is 500 and the B2014 four way is 588. The new one is that price. Check around and you might be lucky and find an old model valve at a dealer.

For anyone else out there looking for it -- go to www.deere.com, pick 'Residential', and get to the 400TEN series under New Equipment. Do a 'Build and Price' -- the Rental Upgrade shows up under the 'Attachments for Field Conversion' section.<br>

As for the price, it's $305 right on that site. My dealer gave me the lower price because I was buying the tractor from him.... So I doubt he would honor the lower price for others. However, if you are having trouble finding the kit, I'll certainly ask him if he can get you one.<br>

PS -- I'll be getting the tractor in two weeks, then will post some pictures.
