Hi, I'm grappling with the same issue. But, Kubota is coming out with a new economy grade L2800/L3400 in about 2 weeks. The 2800 is 29 hp and the 3400 is 35 hp. I have had two dealers quote 15,800 and 15,995 for the 3400 with a kubota loader (60" and lifts 1012 lbs. 96 in high, at the pivot pin). I think I'll wait to sit on this new one and run it before I decide. Good luck!

I think you're describing the difference between a 3ph with position control and one without it but I can't put a name to the w/o type. Draft control is a third type of hitch.

A position control hitch has feedback linkage so it goes into neutral when the level set by the lever is reached--either up or down. They are handy for being able to set the max depth an implement can work and return it to that depth after an implement has been lifted. The feature is important for implements such as plows. I could do most of my work just fine without position control but I'd have to get used to having to return it to neutral. There is some advantage to the idea that the further the lever is moved the faster the hitch lifts.

If you're new to 3ph's you may not be aware that few hold down-pressure, and an implement can lift to float over bumps or when the tractor starts up a hill. It's the weight of an implement that holds it on the ground and the design that takes it into the soil. Both types work the same.

I put a 1.5 X .25 thick angle iron across the front of my bucket and the hooks I cut are back on the reinforcement strap.

I would use the recycle concrete as a base, provided it is well rubblized. If not use your standard aggrates from your area for a base. Then I'd put a minimun of 6" of grindings or millings (depends on up or down cut) and roll them in with your rubber tired rollers. It makes an awesome drive.

I have 8"+ in most of my drive and can run a loaded tractor trailer on it any time of the year with no damage. I run a NYS permitted truck at 107,000 lbs gross. During the spring when it is real soft and if you look real hard you can see where I was.

Many people hand rake the top for a very smooth surface and use a garden sprayer with a light oil, kero, diesel etc. to reactivate and let the asphalt in the material rebond. They are good looking drives.

Prices in central NY (depends on who you know for freebies) but FOB scrap/waste millings $10. ton, road millings and grindings $15+ ton, processed millings, recrushed, ready to be remixed with asphalt $23. per ton.

A lot depends on hours and condition. Short of that, it was made and sold between '76 and '79 for around $4400. Maybe $2000 now?

Here is what I did - I added some of my own circutry and modified the software a bit for my own hardware, but it really is pretty easy to do.

First, take an old pc, but preferably one with decent quality RAM/motherboard, that has a printer port. Install linux and the EMC (embedded machine control) software. EMC and linux used to be tough to install, but nowadays, you can download a CDROM image called the BDI disk for it (BDI = Brain Dead Install). Wire up stepper or step/dir servo drives to the printer port, along with Estop and home/limit switches.

For motors/drives, I used ebay DC servos with encoders, and the geckodrive servo drives. (www.geckodrive.com) - Mariss, the owner/inventor of the geckodrives is coming out with a new piece of drive hardware that will connect via USB and do the step generation for up to 6 axis and connect to the drives, eliminating the parallel port need. Support for linux should be available with the G2002 (new hardware) is out, but in the interim, you can just use the printer port and let EMC generate the pulses. I really can't say enough good things about the geckodrives. Easy to use, work great, fault tolerant, and for the most part, idiot tolerant. Somehow I blew one up, and Mariss generally fixes one for free. I sent mine in, with a note, and he sent it back fixed. There are cheaper ones, but none that are as professionally designed and built. He sells them direct; He has his own smt production equipment and makes them right there.

I overbought on the servos so that I can use them with a bigger mill someday, and have the whole works wired up in a 19" rack enclosure. Boot the PC, load your .g code files over the network or from a floppy (from your cad/cam software, or written in a text editor), and hit go. It also works great for manual work, using a joystick, since you can watch the display for your measurements. My system even turns on the flood coolant, and starts and stops the spindle when the operation is complete. I don't have a tool changer, so I generally break my work into phases by tool, or just use a generic enough end mill to get the job done.

EMC is free, but there are turn key pay solutions. I prefer linux and EMC myself - For example, My fleabay encoders had very high resolution, so high that I needed an insane step rate to get decent feed speeds. (The gecko can work around this, but my early version of the drive didn't have that feature). Since I had the source code, I simply added a 10x pulse multiplier in the "output" routine, and for my work, at my rates, it works fine. (Technically I'm screwing up the velocity of the endmill slightly, but the machine does fine work). EMC takes a bit more reading to get running than the out of the box ones, but it is more flexible, and in fact, a lot of commercial software borrows heavily from the EMC code. EMC will handle rotary axis, 6 dof machines, etc. Way beyond me though. EMC is actually written by NIST, so it's your tax dollars, but it's free to you and to american industry. :)

Has anyone had any experience with any aftermarket large diameter exhaust systems for a Dodge-Cummins? My "OEM / cheap muffler-shop stop gap measure" is begining to disintagrate! Not interested in fuel-turbo mods,just a decent flowing exhaust system.

To heck with the biodiesel! Did you guys know you can burn Vegtable oil in a diesel, with no engine modifications? This would solve the fuel and farming issues! Why aren't the OEM's looking into this??

To refine bio-diesel uses enough energy you might as well use mineral diesel.

I too will buy a diesel SUV as soon as one is available. Diesel Liberty will be available in the fall of '04. (So I'm told) I wish we could have the diesel Grand Cherokee which is available everywhere in the world but here.

I'm not sure what you are asking angles in or out. Uusally one set turns out and one set turns in.

I would not run these, disks, over tree roots unless you want to damage the roots. The surface roots have a lot of holding power to keep tree up right.

Yup you will get some soil compaction but you will probably be cutting below what your tractor will compact. the big field tractors use duals and triple tires to spread out the weight. But these tractors weigh 20+ tons.

Your light compact is not going to be a concern. If you are just going to break up the surface to plant grass seed one pass should do fine. Plant your seed and rubber tire roll it with your tractor.

I'm working on a rear hydraulic setup for my 7800. The different threads for hydraulic fittings can drive you nuts. The prince valve I'm looking at has SAE #8 and SAE #10 ports. Im Familiar with STOR, JIC, and NPTF fittings. Does anyone know where I can get information on what SAE #'s refer to. Thanks

I have an Uncle who owns a mid-80's era Kubota L2250. He uses it on a hobby farm primarily for bush hogging and snow blowing (in Buffalo, NY). It has never been kept indoors and he is one of these people that drives things 'till the wheels fall off without doing much in the line of proper maintenance. The sum total of problems he has had with his machine... recently replaced one wheel rim because the liquid calcium ballast rusted the wheel from the inside out. And that's it. Basically, it's been ridden hard and put away wet, but keeps on going. Tough little machine and it still retains a significant value.

I did mine about two weeks ago. First thing, clean the powder coat off the engine block were the flange bolts on.
Drain the radiator then remove the drain plug in the block adjacent to the block heater. Take a punch and knock the freeze plug into the water jacket grab it with a pair of pliers turn it sideways and pull it out. Thread the block heater into the flange in a vice then bolt the flange to engine block. I believe the thermostat is self bleeding so the system shouldn't get air bound when you re-fill it.

I wasn't clear with my original post. I'm looking for the other color, not orange. I plan to use A/C orange, or Chevy orange - thanks Chief. The other color is the one I was trying to match. I'm not even sure if they call it blue or gray. After looking at the Kubota color chart with 18 colors, I didn't think any of them matched. I think I've decided to take my chances with Wal-mart's best.

simplified, cut down on high end graphics that get some mad waiting to load, and most important to me, at least some prices listed for new and used. It's the old "no ticky, no shirty" when buying theory. Do like the big 3 Ford, GM, Chrysler and post some low costs new, of course very few options, and some used prices. My in laws- 50 years as Chrysler and IH truck found out to never put in the paper, please call for price or not to lists any prices. When they did this, nothing. At least with listing a plain Jane BX and maybe a plain Jane 3130 or something,and a few used, you create traffic. The web is nothing more than a glorified newspaper that is easier to obtain and quicker to read
