Thanks for the link. That looks like a nice blade but the price is a lot higher than $1250. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) we only have major snow events once every 5-6 years so spending that money doesn't make a lot of sense if the blade will sit unused for years at a time. Still, if I run across a good deal on a used blade I might pick one up.

He uses a skid steer - Hence my questions about adding a hydraulic remote up front. He offered to drop his auger by for me to use (I have the quick tach) but obviously, I'd need enough fluid to drive it. The kubota docs say 9 gpm, but I think his is a 10gpm head. Plus I need to add the remotes up front to use it.... Hafta see how much they want for that.

$3500 is kinda high for the 430 FEL. Buying used; all depends........if in like new condition with bucket level indicator, no leaks, and clean paint; $2500 otherwise I would offer around $2,000 and see what he says. Who is going to remove the FEL & frame mounts from his tractor and install it on yours? Don't forget rear ballast weight of some kind. Fluid filled rear tires are the least expensive but sometimes a PITA.

My preference is for the Dodge. They offer the most hp, torque, and towing capactity of ANY pickup on the market currently. The Cummins also gives you the torque way down low (1600 rpm) lower than the others in the useable rpm range. I like the styling but I have a big gripe with the "so called" quad cab. Ford and GM offer a MUCH larger full and genuine crew cab which is what I wish Dodge would offer. The Cummins diesel was voted one of the 10 best engines this year and is by far the most established and reliable of big 3. The 48RE automatic transmission Dodge is offering is still developing a track record and I would not recommend a diesel pickup with an automatic transmission. None of them stand up to the wear and tear in the long run and it also precludes the use of an exhaust brake which makes towing so much more pleasant and saves on brakes. Dodge currently is the only manufacturer that offers and will warrant the Jacobs Exhaust brake. HIGHLY RECOMMENED! Ford may end up discontinuing the 6.0 Power Stroke due to so many problems and customer complaints. They may get the problems worked out but for now, I would not recommend one. The Cummins is designed to go 400,000 miles without a rebuild and this is not an exaggerated claim. MANY have gone this far and farther. I would suggest you follow these websites to get a feel for owner satisfaction and getting more info.

I would think that as biodiesel use spreads, diesels will become available if not popular in more automobiles. Since getting the little NH tractor, I'm more interested in diesel power.

There are some infrared 'temp guns' but they are expensive and less accurate than a Tempilstik. In my opinion, Tempilstiks are THE way to go. <br>

That is not a bad idea Tom. I will have to take a look at antifreeze. The block heater is actually a threaded plug to no removal of a freeze plug is required.

Aside from the John Deere stuff, anyone have any comments of suggestions on PRE-MIXED diesel engine grade anti-freeze.

I would still appreciate any comments, suggestions, or tips on installing one of these block heater kits from anyone who has actually installed one.

I will post my comments and tips after I am done installing mine. It REALLY is VERY helpful when someone does make these comments as it made a BIG difference on how I installed my armrest kit based on Billy's comments. Thanks again Billy!

My experience with glow plugs is that they're like light bulbs, either they work or they're burnt out, period.

I've never heard of carbon fouling a glow plug to the point of non-function. The principle by which they work is merely to provide a hot spot to aid detonation, it doesn't matter to the fuel if it's steel or carbon thats hot.

Something does sound fishy alright, ther is only one thing that can kill glow plugs that fast, either cold fuel or starter fluid is getting to them while they're still too hot, or your relay is sticking and causing them to heat while the engine is running. You might also want to investigate your parts source from 2 years ago, did you get sub-standard glow plugs. Otherwise they should last MANY years.

JPostup, your comment about a 'long warm up period' makes me wonder, at what speed is it warming up, it should be started at about 1,000 rpm (set it there before shut-down), and as soon as it's running smooth it should be set up to about 1,500 rpm to warm up, anything below that it will never get warm.

It's only recently that we have started changing our machines over to HST's, before that they were all GST's.

We run quite a few of them through the winter and all are relatively new and running factory oil in the TX still. The recent cold spell up here was the first real test, we had to plow 3 times in temperatures of -25 to -35 F.

Starting was not as much of a problem as keeping them running warm enough was.

One of the golf courses which is open as a country club during the winter has a B series which they use to clear sidewalks, etc, and changed it over to full synthetic, they say that there is no noticeable difference once it's warmed up, only when it's cold.

I ended up buying at the end of August last year. The tractor was $8200, FEL $2400 (slightly used; otherwise $2500), and mmm was $1700. I didn't price a tiller, but may end up with one this spring. There wasn't much wiggle room in these prices. Dealer included 50-hour service. Said they had to charge for pickup and delivery even on warranty work, but they'd try to minimize it. They're about 40 miles away, so I understand they've got some money into a trip out here. I haven't really tested my loader with a lot of weight, but it's done fine moving some dirt and pleny of snow, some pretty wet and heavy. It's really a solid tractor with a few limitations.

Firstly, there's no real position control with the GC2300. For blade/tiller work, you may want to give this some serious thought. I'm not real tall; the 3PH lever ends up being right under the bend in my knee which gets kind of awkward, especially if you're turned to look at the rear implement. The fuel fill cap is pretty small which makes filling from 5-gal cans kind of awkward. Finally (and I just found this out) the block heater Massey says would fit the GC2300 doesn't. I just had a lower radiator hose heater installed in lieu of the block heater.

By the way, where is Middleton ID? I just moved here from Elk City area a few months ago. Good luck with your search.

My JD post hole digger is PTO driven. I think it was the first generation of the 31 and all the newer ones take a 2" ID auger. A Missouri Company, Danuser, makes an excellent digger and augers. They make three different sizes, one being round, 2-9/16, this size I need. An old timer said if extend the cutting blades beyond the helix a little it greatly improves digging.

Other then the obvious that the fronts would also need to be changed I don't think you will get what you want. I waded thru the snow this morning it is knee deep but with checking our assembled tractors I found that you can't do it easily. With the Ags in there narrowest setting that's what they are for width. The only work that the difference mightbe noticed from the L-3430 is PTO work other then on a side hill and then it would be for the stability of the width.

I imagine given time they will. I'm going to be in Sydney area in mid April for a wedding but I know they are to big to put in my baggage. Any dealer has the ability to sell you one but shipping could be large from the east coast.
