Wow! Please tell me about your experiences! I was looking at the waterfurnace synergy3 system, with 6 150' grouted bores for my ground loop. The dealer has a very good reputation, but if the product has problems, I need to go elsewhere. What kind of things have you run into? Are the support issues local or the waterfurnace guys?

Funny thing - It is very hard to find information on water->water ground source heat pumps on the net... Mostly just sales poop.

Can someone who owns a JD4410 tell me what ground clearance I can expect with R1 12.4 x 24 tires mounted?<br>
This is not speced out in the brochures or WEB site. Also I have read some posts that there have been problems with heavy brush ripping out wiring under the chassis and some have recommended installing the sheilds available.

What part numbers/kits do I need to add hydraulic remotes for the front and/or rear? Does Kubota sell these in a kit that a competent gear head can install, or do I need to have the dealer haul it back and take care of it.<br>

I have a L2900GST and am planning on getting a bigger machine I need a loader with a higher lift to load my truck I was looking at the L5030GST but it doesn't seem much bigger than I have I plan on test driving a TC55 And was thinking maybe the TN65 any input would be helpful I have a Ford F650 with a high sided dump 106" I don't care if I have to dump and than level th bucket to back up as I don't load the truck often I like the GST Kubota has but the clutchless shuttle on New Holland seems almost the same

Update:

My current project is pre-drilling perc holes for soils tests. I can't dig it up with a backhoe - The integrity of the soil around the hole has to be kept for a reasonable perc test.

If I sink it in, and let it work, it will do a nice job going about 8 or 10 inches, and then "stop". It's spinning fine, but just quits digging. Pulling the PHD out, moving the tractor, and shutting everything down, I find a nicely polished circle of clay. The auger is simply not digging into the clay. (Goes well through the topsoil). Should I play with different cutting edges? The edges on the auger, like the rest of the setup, are brand new.I can take a spade and dig the clay out by hand. It seems like the downforce is probably needed. I expect I'll be putting in 300+ posts, so I'd like to have this work, or have the dealer take it back.

Thanks for the info and advice. I have done a test-sit/drive, and that's when I eliminated JD. If they are all dependable machines, I guess it's time I start haggling to get the best price on each, and then decide.

They generally seem to be a good, basic tractor and a decent value for the money. Most people who own them like them but there have been a few horror stories arise from importation issues and/or the odd mechanical problem. Parts seem to be generally available but you probably should be able to do your own repairs because dealer support may be hard to come by. Don't expect the fit, finish, features and options you can get with a major brands though. For example, if you want R4 tires on your Jinma you can forget it unless you come up with some sort of aftermarket solution.

Not really a PHD comment, but when I started looking at a CUT an Old Friend ( who is a lifetime cattle farmer ) told me that "until you buy a tractor, you will never know all things you will use it for." I thought Oh, yeah, lawn, horse manure, grading, general tractor stuff....
Oh how much more I have done...... Although I am not certain if it is the tractor making it easier or me finding things to use the tractor for....

I still have the Bad River hitch and use it frequently. It is well made, well engineered and a cost effective tool that I would recommend to anyone.

All three point hitches have certain limitations. I pull up and down hills and I have found that when I am pulling something the same weight as the tractor on downhill turns it will push the tractor into a skid.

Example: My 1800 pound, 16 foot car hauler has very little tongue weight at towing attitude and it will take the 2000 pound tractor for a ride if I am not careful. I think if I were towing a wagon with the same weight it would be more stable due to the steerable front wheels.

On the other hand, my 3800 pound 5th wheel on the same downhill circuit is quite stable and in control. The difference is the 5th wheel has about 700 pounds of tongue weight and is being lifted and towed from the FEL/pallet forks.

The stability is further enhanced because the tractor front wheels are tracking with the skid forces and there is plenty of rear end ballast.

I guess the message is to be careful with any three point ball hitch and heavy loads. The three point ball hitches are really great for dragging chain harrows and pulling wagons and trailers as long as they don't exceed the tractors weight.

I am going to experiment with pulling the car hauler from my newly designed front/FEL hitch to see if it is a safer pull.

Stone as well as compacted pit run drives are going to be a problem if you're in an area where the drive doesn't stay frozen. There are many threads in the archives that talk about how to manage the stone problem with blades, loaders or blowers. I know my ordinary 3ph blower with standard skid shoes isn't very useful until after freeze up and I can cultivate a layer of snow pack on the drives.

The 'Murf Pipe' idea discussed for loader blades seems pretty good to keep them from digging in. I'll probably make one next year because we're all nice and frozen in here right now.

3ph blower and loader is my combination as well. For wide areas I tend to blow going backwards and then plow forwards to save maneuvering time. A blade wouldn't be very useful to me since parts of my drives go through cuts and there's no place to put snow except at the ends.

A rollover box will save a lot of time, which may be important if you use it a lot. As you probably know by now, the main advantage is that you don't have to turn the tractor around to work back along a grade. Just flip the box, but be careful not to hit anything when going backwards. 3ph's are much stronger pulling than they are pushing.

The rollover feature may less useful when building crowns on. If you work one side going foreword and the other side of the crown in reverse then the tilt would have to be changed. It'd be very handy for working wider grades though.

I don't know if the roll over mechanism simply flips the box hydraulically, which then locks into place or if it can be stopped and held in place between positions. In the later case it might change the cutter angle and might be a substitute for a hydraulic top-link. The main advantage of a top-like to me is the ability to change the blade angle on the fly to switch from cut to drag to spread without stopping. I don't know if a rollover w/o top-link will do that.

If you heat with home heating oil, diesel is a great choice, if you heat with propane or natural gas they are probably the better choice for you. I heat with diesel and have a 100 gallon propane tank for cooking so they are both viable options.<br>

The one thing that hasn't been mentioned much is runtime. Take a look at these generators typical runtimes per gallon of fuel. Diesel stand-alone gens that make 10-12kw only burn about a 1/2 gallon of fuel an hour, gasoline gens are often more like 2 gallons an hour and propane is often 1.5 to 2 gallons an hour. (obviously if you have city natural gas, consumption isn't an issue) Even just keeping a 55 gallon barrel of diesel is likely to give you 4 days of constant run time. Even my tractor idling a PTO gen at 2600rpms( maybe a gallon an hour) burns much less than the gasoline gens. The price of HH oil is only $1.30, propane is around $2 and gasoline is $1.89 so diesel is also a winner there. I don't view price as that important as compared to availibility, but what the heck. With even a few day outage, you can quickly offset the higher price of diesel or even dual fuel gens. We all(almost) have diesel tracors so if you kept a 50 gallon barrel filled and used it for the tractor, refilling it when it hit the 1/2 way mark you would still have at least 2 days of constant run for a gen at any moment. Gelling, fungus, getting old is not an issue if you use it in this manner and just add about $2 worth of quality additive when you fill the tank.<br>

Either propane or diesel is still more available in a pinch than gasoline. With no power, diesel or gasoline may not be pumping but my heating oil tank and all your neighbors tanks will still be available. I am quite sure my generatorless neighbor will trade me some HH oil or his extra BBQ tank in exchange for some elctricity or a place to keep his beer cold during the outage :) With my hand pump and a little bargaining skill I could probably "bum" heating oil" from friends and neighbors to outlast the longest blackout I'v ever seen. Propane is also still available (small tanks though) everywhere and the companies deliver to your large tank unless roads are blocked etc. Gasoline, even IF the pumps are running is a nightmare to get, EVERYONE runs out to fill the cars, gens, etc. and you can wait hours or find the tanks empty. You can go right up to the diesel pumps though because 90% of the cars take are at the gasoline pumps. At 2 gallons an hour, if the pumps are closed siphoning the cars or filling 5 gallon gasoline containers won't be a long term solution. I am aso less than enthusiastic about filling my 55 gallon drum with gasoline and transporting, unloading and refilling from it. It isn't even fun filling a hot gen with the stuff. If you can't get the gas from the station your neighbor will also likely be less than enthusiastic about giving you the last of his petro when no refill is in sight. At 2 gallons an and hour even if you "score" 50 gallons of fuel you have to do it all over again tomorrow or really ration your power comsumption :( Even if you go with the samller gens the % of comsumption differences for the various fuels apply.<br>

Bottom line for me is I look outside right now and see the following.<br>

100 gallon propane tank about 70% full ( 2 days use)<br>

275 oil tank 3/4 full (5-6 days use)<br>

Gas van 31 gallon tank 1/4 full (4 hours use)<br>

I think many/most of us would have similar situations???<br>

Even without considering run time for the various fuels, if I am relying on gas I have an almost immediate need to go out and leave the family at home alone under possibly very bad conditions.<br>

Most of us heat with oil, propane or natural gas. In my humble opinion that leaves very few of us better off with a gas generator than the other options. I think gasoline is really only the best option if you don't use any of the other fuels and don't have a dieel truck/tractor. Then only other possible plus I see for gasoline is that for $500 dollars you have a budget generator.

Chief: I can't help with the specifics. You probably know that there are good descriptions of how to remove freeze plugs in the archives. What I wanted to say is that it sounds like a good excuse to change the coolant. It may be easier to just drain the block rather than wonder how much to drain to get the level below the freeze plugs. It's probably common knowledge but coolant should be changed every two years anyway. Most compact engines aren't highly affected by water jacket cavitation. However, changing coolant is still good practice in order to get rid of the permanent anti-freeze that isn't.
