Hello everybody,<br>

Does anybody have or know where I could find a crank or engine for a Ford 1720?<br>
<br>
Mine has spun a rod bearing and ate the crank.<br>

It depends a lot on what you plan to do. I'd go 5', but if you live in dry climate and don't work with anything too dense, 6' might work fine. I have a MF 1260, which has been replaced by the 1440. I've never had it hooked to 6', and if doing anything very tough wouldn't want bigger than 5'. But some folks report good results with huge mowers on small tractors. My experience would suggest that properly sized mower will do more acre/hr.

I thought I would update you all with respect to my tractor purchase decision.

First of all I would like to thank all the responders for their input and suggestions. There were many good points for all 3 machines and lots to consider.

I have decided to get a BX23 with backblade. I picked this as I thought a backhoe would be invaluable for my landscaping which I expect to be doing for a few years. I did not want to spend the money to add one to a 7800 or 7510. I think I will give up a bit of snow removal capability with a smaller machine but I can always add a frontblade or snowblower in the future if necessary and I am accepting that it may take a little longer to get the job done.

I should also add that I checked out a number of local dealers and it was quite obvious which one I wished to deal with. He spent considerable time with me, gave me some good advice,put up with my initial indecision on which model I actually wanted and finally gave me a fair price.

I have them on my 4115 with 150 pounds of used plates in each wheel recess.

I recommend the product, it works great.

Who the hell really cares what a tractor looks like? Its how they work and last that matters,for 8,000 dollars less then jd or kob,for same SIZE,I can do without some bells and blow things.I still say you are better off getting a 25 h.p sears mower to mow your yard and a 8,000 dollar jinma to do your other work,then getting an oversized lawnmower with 4wd to try and do both,your still thousands ahead,and you actually have equipment sized for your job. Darryl: I guess it's a Ford 1710 and you probably know the part number is a Ford part number that may be available from a New Holland dealer. A dealer can determine if the part is in the NH inventory or any dealer's inventory. Models 1310 and 1510 use the same gear.

An OEM manufacturer rather than Ford or Shibaura probably made the gear. If there are numbers on the gear other than the SBA number a good shop might be able to track down an OEM source. Who knows, maybe somebody has a Ford to OEM part number cross-reference.

I'd look for a new gear since compacts are pretty rare in salvage yards and one with a parted out TX would be even more rare. There's a chance that the same gear is on some model of Shibaura but I'm not sure if the Fords used Shibaura TX's or not. There'd also be the problem of cross-referencing Ford to Shibaura numbers.

Hope this helps some. If NH identifies the gear as unavailable or obsolete and can't supply one supply I'd be interested in knowing since I have a 1710.

Thanks for the info. Glad I'm not the only one that has a tough time with the stuff. Just as an aside, I knew a welder that had a machine to weld stuff like that when I lived in the north. He would fix light metal parts with a tiny, tiny elec arc that pulsed. I had no idea what he was doing, but I never had a part break in the same place after he fixed it, e.g., some of the parts inside steering columns. He told me there was no metal he could not weld, but that some VW stuff was very tough and needed imported rods. Thanks again.

Purchased a KK 60" from TSC and couldn't be more pleased. Sure beats a walk behind! I have mine hooked to a B7800. Make sure you follow dealers guideliness, especially concerning grease and dope. My unit came bone dry in both regards, as was mentioned in the instructions.

I purchased the following in August of last year:

B7800HSD - 12,250 *midmount with folding ROPS
LA402 - 2,850 - front end loader
Bushhog FTH600 - 1450 - rotary cutter
Bushhog SQ600 - 850 - finishing mower

They also kicked in a fiberglass canopy.

Hope you like the 7800 - I certainly do!

You may be able to get some old style round fenders. Themanmachines.com shows some to fit like an "M", 400 or 450. You can buy them(a pair) now for $150.00 + $20.00 shipping. I'm not sure if the 706 and 400/450 had the same tire size. If the fender isn't tall enough, you could build a shim beneath it to block it up. I think they used u-bolts to mount them. Also don't know if you want flat top fenders with lights. I can't remember that far back. My dad had a 400 and traded it in for a 756 but I got drafted and never saw it. He couldn't farm alone, so he quite farming and sold out before I got back home.

With the older style tractor you crawled on from the back. Don't you climb up on a 706 on the side just ahead of the rear tire? Did the fender have a hand hold or something like that? Maybe you can find a fender from a newer model on the auction at a more reasonable price. The 756 came after the 706 but don't remember what came after that.

Chief, thanks for the response. The knock sensor is a new one for me and I will investigate that possibility. It's
kind of a strange condition to me because it pings mostly at a steady throttle and not on hard acceleration. It does worsen with a load behind it and have to use octain boost. It also cranks easily, not like it's overadvanced. Never the less, I will check the timing also. Thanks again.

I just bought a John Deere model 31 post hole digger. Does any know if a Danuser auger will fit? My output shaft diameter is 1.375" and the mounting extension is 2.550" dia. I made a good CAD drawing of the extension if anyone is interested.

The tire must be cut off the wheel,but the rims can be reused. And yes I like the extra weight to help keep those front tires planted when workin up the fields. haven't had no flats on rears yet, but if I start haveing that problem I will have the rears done. It's probley not the thing to do for those who are worried about tearing up the ground, because It really seems to chew at the earth more in the front now. but traction is inhansed.

Several manufacturers make 3pth trenchers, powered and otherwise.

The big factor here though is travel speed, unless you have a creeper gear or HST the tractor will not go slow enough to use a PTO powered trencher.

They are also fairly expensive units.

I just bought a new TC33D with 7308 FEL for $17,500,delivered.<br>
Manual transmission W/Shuttle Shift,Super Steer,Folding ROPS,Deluxe 3-Pt. Hitch, Deluxe Seat, 1-Remote Hydraulic connection, Ag Tires. <br>
I swapped a 6' Bush Hog, 2-gang 3 Pt. disk, (even), for a back blade with horizontal tilt and the dealer agreed to weld a chain hook on the bucket for me.<br>
This is a nice little tractor a step down from my NH-Ford 3010S and a few steps up from my ford 600.<br>

There is another sneaky way to achieve a side-tilt on a box-blade which is both inexpensive to add, and real fast to add, adjust or remove completely. It works on a conventional rear-blade also, but not as well.

Simply add a very sturdy trailer tongue jack to the crossbar at the front of the blade. The type with a roller wheel as a foot.

To achieve a slight lift simply crank the jack until it takes the desired amount of weight off that side of the blade. Some models affix by means of a cross drilled pipe flange, these work best since multiple mounts can be installed and the jack moved around to any of them as the need dictates.
