Pawhill, I'm dense sometimes, help me understand. When you say the fel, do you mean the bucket of the fel? If so, a backer plate to reinforce the hook would be a good idea. I don't weld my top hooks on because the process can anneal an already marginal strength (read thin) sheet metal. I use bolt on hooks, with a backer plate on the other side of the mounting surface. A sandwich if you will: hook, bucket, and backer, all bolted together with grade 8 bolts. For very heavy lifts, I do weld two gusseted brackets on bucket center, just above the bucket's heel. Each bracket spaced wide enough to accept my chain between them. The brackets have a through hole and are made from high tensile steel, not mild steel. To connect the chain, I pass a hitch pin through the holes and chain link (or hook), then safety pin it to keep it from slipping out. This way I can lift at my loader's limit with less danger of torquing the arms out of alignment.

Grinder, not every course is built on text-book classic farmland. I REALLY wish they were.

Generally golf courses are built on land that fits into one of only two categories, in the first category are the courses that are built on 'out-lying areas' which means the land was selected because it was just beyond the premium-priced stuff near to town, generally the land is not too bad to work with. The second category is the ones that are built on land that can be most diplomatically described as 'construction challenged'. It is usually the stuff that is good for nothing else.

We have done courses that required topsoil to be made or imported from other islands, we have done courses without grass just oiled sand for the fairways & astro-turf for the greens. We have also done courses that took weeks and weeks of blasting before we could even THINK of doing any earth work.

We done them where we had to have armed guards, of course that was because of another sort of "site condition"...LOL

Yes Scooter, mixing sizes on mfwd tractors is a no no. Check with Deere, Quincy, see what they say. If you just buy a spare set of rims that will fit the size tire you want, they may not live up to your expectations. Flotation tires were probably left off the option list for your machine for a reason, like front axle loading and bearing issues. The big tires may do more harm than good.

I need some help and my questions will reveal my inexperience. I have a B7500 that I ahve been using for a couple of years for mowing, snowblowing and log skidding. I just bought a Bushhog Razorback 60" rotary cutter. There is too much snow to use it (finally) but I had to attach anyway. When transporting should the cutter be held clear of the ground by the 3pt hitch or should it roll on the wheel at the rear? The manual says to use the wheel to adjust cutting height and keep the front a little lower than the rear. How do you adjust the front? Just with the 3pt hitch? If so how do you always get the correct height for the front after you raise and lower? Are there some type of safety guards that I should be getting? Dealer said no not with that small a cutter. Thanks for answers in advance and I expect to have more questions as soon as I get a chance to use it.

Reo, first of all I don't think any company except small welding shops have made those blowers in the last 25 years. I have one shown as pic. # 13 in my profile.

There are lots of them around and they usually sell for very little money, here in Southern Ontario at least.

There are two varieties, there was one style where the 'V' opened forwards, and while blowing snow while driving forward does sound like a better idea at first, in practice it wasn't very practical, unless it was VERY dry snow it got packed down by the tractor driving over it and the blower wouldn't move it.

The most practical had the 'V' opening to the rear so that you still had to back up to clear any snow. This worked very well if all you had to do was blow the snow off a straight driveway in an open area, like across a field. Because of the V design though it left a lot of snow behind if you had to work in around buildings, etc. in tight quarters. The lack of abvility to turn the chute was a big problem in these circumstances also.

They're dead simple to make, let me know if better pic.'s or spec.'s are of interest.

It is interesting to read the Kubota engine web site. They are almost saying they don't believe their quality is good enough. Since they have made 20 million engines they must know something about making diesels.

The new machine (4115) came in yesterday, had the day off so stopped by to see it. Other then road salt from riding on a trailer (They picked up from another dealer) looked good sounded good. The dealer is coming out tonight to get some of the things that switch over from the 2210. I should have it at the house by the weekend. I broke the news to my wife last night first thing she said was "so I can get my new sewing machine". The sewing machine she wants will cost as much as I am paying in the difference between the 2210 and the 4115. The mower deck is really heavy duty, be a while before I can use that though.

Doug fir roots aren't all that deep. I've worked stumps up to 10" out with my HD loader bucket and cutting edge but the big ones are kind of tough. You get the hang of it though - slow and easy and eventually they come out. I use the bucket to dig in front and to either side of a stump, then use the bucket curl to pull it over. I can do 6-8 6" or smaller stumps an hour this way. When cutting existing overgrown trees up to 6" I either cut it tall, leaving a 4' stump or so, or push the tree over before cutting. The extra leverage helps pop the root ball out of the soil making stumping work go much faster.

I'd like to have a backhoe but am finding it hard to justify since I can do what's needed without. Also, the extra length of the BH would greatly reduce maneuverability in the woods. Still, if I was buying the package again I'd probably go for the hoe.

The BoDozer grapple is great for clean-up chores. I use it to collect the stumps and slash and pile 'em up for burning. Rather than skidding the heavy stuff I cut it into shorter lengths and use the grapple to carry it to the firewood pile. This is my most-used implement.

One thing that's confusing me about these hydraulic motors is the "stall torque" rating at 1 RPM. Referring the the chart on the White hydraulic website I posted earlier it says that at 1 RPM this motor still has 1653 in lbs of torque. Doesn't this imply that I would have more than the 1200 in lbs I'm calculating at anything over 1 RPM?

There's a good chance that an automotive one of the right diameter can be found. Some auto types are too long and the element would contact the water jacket, so that's something to check if generic block heaters are considered.

I'm a fan of chain myself for those reasons. I think all skidders have operator cages to stop flying cable etc. as well as things dropping out of the sky. It'd be good for anybody doing tractor skidding to keep in mind that they are much more exposed than a skidder operator, and skidder operators are protected for good reason.

Logging may be the most dangerous occupation going. Just this summer one person on our fire crew couldn't pull start the fire pumps because he had mashed his hand between a log and skidder. Another person later slashed his ankle through his boot with a chainsaw. Fortunately neither of them were disabling injuries. Logging companies find it difficult to get insurance at any price due to accident rates in logging. Of course tractor skidding for fire wood isn't the same as commercial logging but it's still good to think about the safety stuff.

I think you are probably aware that the 7305 is the last of the Mitsubishi manufactured units to be marketed by MTD. They are really fine, basic, dependable machines that have been around for well over a decade (previously marketed in US by Case). When you consider the msrp for just the tractor was several grand over the sale offered to you, it looks good. Having used 7000 series machines in my business I can tell you they do well if you keep up with their total maintenance, and with the MFWD you shouldn't have too many traction issues with R4's. I preferred the Woods built 417 loader over newer 476, the bucket held up to everything I sent it while the 476 bucket sprung and bowed. One last caution, the 7000's have a front frame that attaches the front axle assembly to the engine block. There are side plates just aft of the front tires, check the bolts for torque or if any are missing. These machines have a habit of the bolts coming loose and the block castings stripping threads or worse, cracking. As for a hoe, get the one made by Woods, these tractors don't do well with 3pt hitch types, and the Woods 408 has a strong sub-frame. Oh yeah, almost forgot, MTD is now marketing the Kioti DK40 and DK45 as their 8000 series machines, you may want to look at them before you leap. Have fun.

jparker U-haul trucks have a smooth alumiun floor, so you could get some self tapping screws and screw in a piece of angle iron into the floor. If they ask about the holes, "What Holes". Why don't you have the dealer throw in free deliver.
Cub that hill idea you have is how my buddy moves his john deere crawler loader. He would put the loader in the back of the peterbuilt strait chip/log truck. Then tow the 18" chipper. He would look for a hill, back up and drive the loader off. Then load he would back up to the chip pile and drive into the back of the truck. He now cheats because he got a selfpropelled chipper on a trailer. Drive of the chipper, flip up a second set of ramps into the back of the truck and drive the loader off onto the trailer. Then off the trailer to the ground. They can clear an acre in about 3 hours. The loader has a 18" tree shear and the chipper has a 18" capacity. It mostly pine the have on lot clearing job so they don't keep the logs.

New to the board here. I was interested in the Pat's Easy Change system. Where can I find info on it?

I bought a TSC Quick Hitch last year, and haven't gotten around to modifying all of my implements so that I can use it yet. Seems like nothing I have is compatable. All of my implements are narrower than the 27 inches required to fit inside the hooks on the quick hitch. I think it's going to be more trouble than it's worth to modify everything.

I agree with you Snowmover! The most difficult part of installing the snowblower is aligning the driveshaft to the "carrier bearing." I cannot get my hand in there to depress the locking coller while aligning the spline without several "choice" words and phrases. Had to change from blower to FEL and back this past weekend. As easy as the FEL is, the snowblower seems out of place being so difficult.

Anyone have a trick for this???
