Grinder has already made his opinion clear on Chinese tractors. Again the discussion started with Mahindra tractors and out of the bule Grinder comes in and wants to bash Chinese tractors. He was giving us his personal considerations on Chinese tractors which was not logical because the discussion was not even about them. This is why we have our own site and other boards don't get much activity on Chinese tractors and probably never will. Everytime we post on another board we have to read all the BS.

I'm happy if my chance find of those pics triggered some nostalgia. The comments about use of logging arches with tractors are pretty good.

Weight on the 3ph is good for traction and anything that unloads the rear wheels is bad. For people who want to carry loads that challenge 3ph capacity something that could divide the load between a skidder and 3ph sounds like a good idea although there are safety issues as mentioned. Somebody with a farm tractor used to say they regularly skidded logs where the 3ph load was heavy enough that there was no steering and they relied on brake steering. That probably works but I never though it was a good idea myself. There'd be the problem of going uphill with an already light front end and then picking a greater length of the logs off the ground to add to the 3ph load. I think people in such situations might be able to use an arch to help but maybe a bigger tractor or more trips would be even better. Guess I'm back to slow and easy.

I have the same experience with cable chokers as Jim. The former owner of what is now our camp has an old Case skidder and there's still a bunch of rigging stuff in one of the sheds. One of them is a loop of heavy chain with a number of short lengths attached around the loop. I've wondered if it's some sort of choker. Suppose if I posted a pic somebody here would know what it is.

I think it would be more accurate to say that it is a little slow in low range and would be the ideal candidate for a three range transmission.<br>

I have a somewhat steep gravel driveway and I live nearly a mile above sea level. The driveway averages an 80 foot rise over a 600 foot span. When we had occasion to call for a fire truck, it stalled halfway up and they had to find their double compound granny to get up to the house.<br>

The 4115 with backhoe and FEL attached (plus 300# in wheel weights and another 285# in overgrown german farmboy) will climb the same driveway in high gear at about 70-80 percent of top road speed. <br>

There are two choices: If I cram the pedal to the floor, the RPM's drop to around 2000 or less, and it will labor up the drive at 8 mph. <br>

If I back off on the "go" pedal, I can keep the RPM's at 2600+ and do the same 8 mph up the drive. This is clearly the better way to operate the tractor. So some of what you hear may have something to do with lack of understanding as to how an HST works.<br>

I also have put about 60 miles on the tractor "roading" it to small jobs around town. On hills that would force me to walk my bicycle, the 4115 maybe loses 150 RPM's and the road speed drops from 13 mph to 11.8 for a minute or so. But by no stretch of the imagination is it working hard. BTW..... at 42 hours it is nowhere near broken in yet.<br>

I think your discussion of the original topic has gone off-track. I'm not a member but comment at times. If the tractor manufacturer does not recommend putting a BH on their model tractor, it shouldn't be done. I don't feel that a novice as he describes himself should be led on to thinking it is ok if he uses it cautiously. If he is a novice, how does he know if he is operating it cautiously or not.

My feeling is that you need a pretty good sized tractor to mount a BH to it or else the hoe pushes it all over whenever trying to move much. I have a MF135 with FEL and 3 point mounted hoe with loaded tires & wheel weights in addition to my CUT. I make ditches and dikes on the swamp land hunting property and clear beaver dams. I wish the tractor was bigger/heavier. I also wish the BH had more reach.

I would recommend purchasing a BH rather than making one yourself. You can pickup a used bigger/older tractor like I have and have it dedicated. Be careful, your projects can turn into a monster. You need to learn when to purchase vs: renting or having the work done. I've done it wrong and have 3 tractors, 4 trailers, 5 riding lawnmowers, misc. snowblowers, rear blades, misc. tillers, 3FEL's, 1 backhoe and a super-duty to haul it around (and lots more). The monster can be all consuming.

I can't follow your discussion about less oil keeping the system cooler. As a non-member, I don't get the whole discussion but it sounds the inverse of what I learned in Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer classes.

Buy the backhoe with the tractor package. Tell yourself if you don't use it at least once a year that you will sell it.

You will find so many uses for it it will surprise you.

If I read correctly, you have 2000 feet of trenching to do and it is $10 a foot to hire it out. My calculator says that is $20,000.00

A $7K backhoe would look pretty darn good to me.

I tend to look at costs of things on a monthly basis.

I need a TLB a couple days every month and the rental cost for that is $600 by the time you factor in fuel and delivery charges.

It makes it real easy to justify a $500 per month tractor payment.

hey in shopping for box blades I see some have a fixed
rear and outhers have a hinged rear. it seems like the
floating or hinged gate would work better on a small
tractor but Im just guessing any comments?
also some have hydrluic retracting teeth but they get
pretty heavy I think the brand was monroe and weight on
a 5.5 ft was over 1000 lbs for this style they called
for at least 40 hp my 4410 ofcourse is rated 35hp
probably unless a guy is using it every day the retracting
teeth are uneccary but it shure would be cool and you cant put a price on cool!!!!!?

The other night I was getting ready to install a rear facing working light on my 2210 and noticed a connector attached to 2 wires(ground and hot) covered with protective sheathing sticking out the back of my machine. I haven't had the time to check it out much yet, but it seems to come out of the ROPS and terminates with a white connector just above the rear PTO. Does anyone have any ideas what this is for and if it is switched to anything ??

Morning AV8R: I got so caught up in my own subject I forgot about yours. You did what I advocated doing several times before Dennis provided a pic capacity on the board. Yours is a good effort. If everybody did that we wouldn't have to live with the size restrictions for posting on the board and doing so would reduce the traffic and costs of operation.

I think it can be a decent hobby to have a personal site as well as useful. As you likely discovered it doesn't take a huge investment in time to gain enough skills either. It also doesn't cost much since most ISP accounts provide enough server and traffic allowance to support a personal site as part of the service. The CSS stuff might be useful if editing stops being fun or interesting.

As an alternative to classes, I put up my first site about 10 years ago on a corporate LAN (didn't make the systems department too happy either). I never took any classes but I had several books. Mostly what I did was look at the source of other sites; look up statements I didn't understand and generally do what other sites did. If you haven't discovered it, the IE6 view menu has a choice titled 'source.'

The BH90 is much the same. The initial installation is the toughest as they use frame rails to make the hook-up a four point just like on the pro models the BX23,B-21,L-35 and L-48. Should be able to convert in about 5 minutes when you have done it a couple of times. My biggest problem is being a know-it all starting without reading the owners manual and missing a step from not doing them often enough. Super strong system giving you plenty of ground clearence underneath the tractor.

At one time I was told LENAR would have R4s by the end of this year. If that happens, I"ll bet all the Chinese companys will begin to offer them, depending on which size tires get produced. Who knows, perhaps Jinma will come out with them first.

Thanks for all your help and counsel, Art. I'd originally thought I would probably need something between 30 - 40 hp but after reading about the things that some of the smaller CUTs have accomplished, I thought it might be possible to get the job done with something smaller.

24" is huge for a PHD especially on a 4100. I have a Land Pride PD25 with a 9" auger bit. You don't want to go too big on the auger bit as you will sacrfice digging power. In your case I would recommend the PD10 or 15 series PHD.

Pretty simple for me, 24 horsepower,gear drive. Not a bad machine comparable to the B-7400-7500 Kubota. Built by Mitshibitshi For them. Later sold through Case-IH dealers and then Cub Cadet.
