I snowplow commercially here in CT, and most of my accounts are commercial not residential. Banks, stores, etc. get heavily sanded, more so than apts, condos. In the spring, I charge for sweeping, then sub it out to a friend with a street sweeper, but only make about $40 per average lot.

I am afraid that a static broom would not contain larger qts. of sand. Plus, the rotating broom basically sweeps the area a few times not just once, gathering more material in one pass with the mnachine.

I tried to stay away from the hydro units because they are substantially more expensive than the pto driven units. Why pay for a hydraulic motor when I have a pto for free???

I was even considering a walk behind sweeper, but for $1900, I can almost buy the rotary and never have an engine to maintain or replace.

Maybe static is the way to go...but I was unsure about them so I didn't even consider them too much.

The manual for my JD 4110 refers to grease of NLGI grade 2. I picked up some tubes of grade 1.5 at the hardware -- is that better or worse than 2, or thicker or thinner, i.e., should I use it or not?

Some time ago I said that I would post any complaints I had about Kubota on this website. Well here is my biggest so far. After I signed the papers and started to walk out of the dealers with key in hand I remembered something and said, "hey, got any hats?" I imagined walking around in a nice ORANGE crown that everyone would notice. What did I get? A puke colored tan thing! Not even the lettering was orange. He even gave me two. I guess he must have been trying to get rid of them...

Chief, I don't seem to have the battery venting problem you do. I keep looking for leakage or signs of outgassing but never see any. Maybe yours is overcharging a bit?

jyaeks, It's difficult to for any of us judge the value of a used tractor when we can't see it or try it. I would look at ebay often to get an idea of what it's worth. For instance today there is a '97 L3600 with FEL and 600 hrs that sounds pretty dented up. The bidding is up to 11K.

As far as the tires are concerned, I would consider the 15% fronts to be worn out if I was looking to buy a used tractor.

Kabota,Thanks for the info,my neighbor that I was talking about has had real good luck with his used yanmar,he hasn't taken real good care of it,I know that and its still running,he got it about three years ago,but its like anything else used,you just don't know,seems like he said he gave around 7,000 for it with fel,brushog and tiller,all four ft.,I'm not sure what model it is,about 20 h.p. I think,its a good bit smaller then my nortrac 25 h.p.,in size anyways,it has 4wd,but no roll bar,and that just about killed him this spring,he was cutting some pine trees down and one got hung in another one then he figured he would push them loose with fel,fell straight on top of him,had him pinned face to steering wheel,if his fel hadn't been up as far as it was it would have killed him,just lucky one of those limb stubs didn't spear him,took me and the 911 crew an hr.to get him out,he walked away.Roll bar would have stopped trees before it hit him,in this case anyways. Yeah used you never know,if the price was right and they offered a warrenty of some kind,it might be worth it. The 5ft kk for 1,000 at tractor supply already seems like a good price to me,price might go up instead of down? Unless you can pick whatever brand up,seems to me shipping would put the total price to high,probably cost a couple hundred to ship a 6,or 700 lb tiller? Richard

I have used MAPP, propane and butane with oxygen before as well as acetylene. I do like MAPP a lot and prefer it to butane or propane. The last gasoline torch I used had a preheater pan that you used to get the torch head hot before it would make a decent flame. Surely that must have improved.

I think that Acetylene has the edge on highest flame temperature, and MAPP is better for overall BTU value. MAPP, propane, and butane are all safer than acetylene in my opinion. I have been using acetylene for over thirty years, however, so I am probably not going to change.

A quick hitch not being capatable with attachments is what I ran into .<br>
I purchased a Speeco quick hitch from Tractor Supply a few years ago.<br>
Nearly all my attachments needed to be altered for the quick hitch to work.I threw the quick hitch into the corner of the shed where it has been buried ever since.<br>
The tractor I have now has top/tilt and extendable lower link arms making 3 point hookup much easier, so as far as I'm concerned the quick hitch can stay buried.<br>

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I'm going to go with the 54" blade. I do have a 9 hp Ariens 2 stage walk-behind snowblower that can get me into some of the tighter spots if necessary. Heaven forbid I actually have to get off the tractor and use this primitive machine though !! I just like the idea of being able to utilize it for something other than just snow removal and the price tag is a little more appealing than the snow thrower. Thanks again-

Thanks Tom. It looks like I'll start with taking the entire panel cover off the tractor and peek inside to see if there was a way the instrument panel comes off the panel cover.

Regarding your R4 question, you might want to read the long threads "I hate my R4s" and "I hate my R4s part II". The upshot is that if you have clay soil I wouldn't recommend R4s at all. I had 'em and they completely plugged and lost all traction in wet clay and they didn't do a lot better in dry.

I looked at a 2310 yesterday and had the dealer take the backhoe off so I could look at the 3-Pt. hitch.
The backhoe brackets got in the way of the lift arms so they would only open to 24", none of my existing 3-point equipment would fit at any position.
So, now I am thinking about buying a either a NH TC or one of the new TZs, I like New Holland anyway.
I did like the 22.5 HP on the MF.

I have a 2002 HST 4115 and my JD operations manual says to set the throttle at 1/3 to 1/2, turn the keys on and wait for 3 seconds, and listen for a click. This seems to work fine for me. I played with the system and if the throttle is not cracked open, just a little, no click. I have to do this with the parking brake off, cause the flashing brake indicator light on the dash makes more noise than the click I am supposed to be listening for....You might want to try that. Around here, if a gas station carries diesel at all, it is in single grade in one pump. I have never seen or heard of premium diesel fuel, but I would buy it if I could find it.

I got my math all screwed up and added WAY more additive than the bottle recommends during the last fueling on my 4115.

For The moment I have a very happy little Yanmar.

In most cases a smaller dedicated mower, lawn tractor, lawn mower will do a better job. Smaller mower, less width, less scalping, and better manueverability.

A more in depth description of your planned uses for the tractor would be helpful in making a suggestion. There is a HUGE jump in price and capability beween the 2210 and the 4115. A big difference in construction. The BX2200 I personally do not like as it has no tachometer. To me that is a big short coming with respect to pto operations. Otherwise a very good machine.

I would think that if you live in Idaho, you would be using your tractor for snow removal/blowing. In that case I would go with the 4115. Can you make do with less tractor? Sure. But the 4115 gives you added weight, excellent hp., full cat 1 hitch, and a longer frame. You can run a 60" mower easily.

Yes they have a "Grass Catcher". Its mounts to the 3 pt arms and hooks to the rear pto to drive a blower to pull the grass for the deck and blow into the bags. Its on the Kubota website.
