Murf: I understand the cases are a heat exchange surface. What I was trying to come to grips with is that idea that low flow from low rpm operation may over-heat the oil. What I'm doing is looking for an explanation rather than differing with the claim.

The way I was thinking is along the lines that it takes a given amount of work to do a task. Unless a system's efficiency changes a given amount of heat should be produced, and that should be fairly constant whether the work is done at high or low flows, although it would take place over a longer time at low flows.

The pump and all components have less than 100% efficient, heat is produced and returned to the reservoir in exhaust oil where it raises the temp of reservoir oil and some heat is dissipated through the cases. More heat would dissipate as the oil temp rises above the air temp and the oil temp should come to equilibrium depending on the workload.

Assuming that work rather than flow changes the heat load, what I can't figure is how greater flow would increase heat dissipation in the reservoir. Increased dissipation would seem to be a logical requirement if low flows may over-heat oil (unless efficiency decreases). It is true that increased flow may stir reservoir oil more to increase dissipation and that there'd be greater be a greater volume of 'low worked' oil when no control vales were operated. I also made a big assumption. Even so, I can't see it unless efficiency changes but that's likely just illustrates the limits of my physics education.

Vetcor: I have the 2230 with same deck/bagger setup. I believe you do in fact have a problem because mine WILL allow adjustment to "top" while deck is installed. Hammer on dealer to fix this. How did you add wheels to the bagger? This is my only gripe so far on my tractor, bagger works awesome, but is a PAIN to attach and detach!!

This may be a mute point, but Kabota did change the color of their orange. I recently puchased a 7800 and was surprised when purchasing a can of touch up that there is a Kabota Orange II for newer models. The Kabota Orange from Tractor Supply is not a good match for Kabota Orange II.

I took a 7800 3 weeks ago after doing 2 years of research. The only feature you will miss is the position control on the 3 point. If you do a lot of grading, the 1/4" valve is no substitute for position control. Also be aware of the difference in hydraulic blocks. There is not a rear hydraulic bock on the 7800. Most dealers won't mention that. Other than that, great tractor.

Thanks for all the input :> on the subject. I was unsure if the windshield was a sufficient deterrent for the signal, but is sounds as though it is not. I did not realize they were quite so harmful as I have seen these units deck mounted on short struts. I have tossed the manufacture of the arch around in my head all day and had pretty much decided that is what I will do prior to reading all of these posts. I like the tripod idea Murf. I had thought of bending aluminum pipe, raking it rearward and welding a plate to the top center of the rig. I can bracket it in on the sides of the bridge, not much weight to support with just the antenna on it. I will have to play with some designs.

yesterday a mechanic friend of mine suggested that i hose down the bolts on the axles with wd40 and attempt to adjust them the day after. The tractor is sitting on the sellers property and i need to move it pronto...

Murf that is a good thought on the lift. I've used them. I am thinking more along the line of a boom type lift anchored near middle or toward ram anchor point. Hyd lift and manual pivot with tongs. When not needed swing out of way and have one of those high energy kids loading blocks or rolling to splitter.<br>

Mark northern hyd/tools has as good a price as anyone for a name brand cylinder and valve and they have their in house names at half the price.<br>

What Murf said about used cylinders is valid we have a big brand new yellow one in the dumpster over $4000 new the rod is 3" x 18" the ports are 1 1/8" It would take one hell of a lot of oil to cycle otherwise it would be here. But I do have a couple of smaller ones scrounged out of dumpster. One me thinks is gonna work perfect on my boom idea.<br>

My wedge is 12"h X 10"l X 1&1/4Thick inch plate cut with torch for angle and hard faced 3 passes then ground to edge.<br>

As Murf said most welding shops have this stuff her and there and will get rid of it for scrape prices unless they have to cut from fresh steel.<br>

Much of this would be cheaper to buy ready build but thats not near as much fun as dumpster diving for scrape and making something from all those treasures.<br>

Why would the clutch slip ?<br>
If a clutch slips before the tractor runs out of power or before losing traction there is something wrong with the clutch !!

Does the engine pick up the load if you put the hydraulics into bypass? (i.e. can you here it lug down and smoke more due to the load?) It almost sounds as if the govenor is not properly compensating for engine load. If the engine stalls out under a heavy load you would get tons of smoke if it was. If it was a hydro problem, sounds like the suction filter & screen is restricted but that would not necessarily kill the engine in the manor you are saying.

You are looking at three very good machines, no doubt. The one observation I would make though is that the Unimog is in a class by itself, it is capable of things like road travel that tractors only dream of.

I have no personal experience with the AC but have heard from friends in a wine producing region near here that they are good machines.

The Ferrari is an excellent unit, they are popular along with Same's and the Landini's among Italian-Canadian truck farmers and thoise with large personal gardens.

My best advice would be to find and talk to a few owners and find the best DEALER in your area, that is the key to success.

As for the issue of soil compaction, that is NOT so much an issue of total weight of the vehicle, it is a result of the pounds per square inch transmitted to the ground. In other words a 4,000 pound tractor will apply the same weight to the ground as a 2,000 pound tractor with a half as much tire contacting the ground.

I've heard of several people doing it,but for just one tractor it probably ain't the way to go,even cost wise.Course to each his own I guess,maybe if you had a lot of sperience importing things,which most people don't,it might seem more better,I wouldn't think about it myself,I'm to poor. Richard

Kubota, I did buy kubota UDT and filters. There was not much out there for aftermarket filters that I could find. Altogether I spent about $160 with oil and gear lube. I could have saved $40-50 with store brand hydraulic fluid but...

One thing I would get is a cheap 12-15 gal rubbermaid pan to drain into. I would have caused less mess. Your wife can use it to store fancy doilies in when you're not using it to drain oil. :-)

Eric, I've heard conflicting stories of problems with underfloor radiant heat on wood floors. It's confusing and hard to know if there's a legitimate problem or not. I figure that heating the floor to some moderate temperature, like 60-65 degrees, and using the heatpump to make up the difference may minimize any problems.

We also have a ceiling fan on a 10-foot downrod in our vaulted area. The fan helps a lot but there's still a 2-3 degree temperature gradiant floor-to-ceiling. Our heatpump also has a desuperheater to provide hot water but I turn that pump off in the winter since heatpumps heating performance is already marginal. We use propane for the cooktop, water heater, dryer, generator, and have it stubbed out to our fireplaces and outdoor future hottub.

My fault.... it just needed more snow to work properly. Worked like a champ with a foot of fresh powder though a slight breeze returned about 5% to the operator! Cab would sure be nice.
