I have a friend with what sounds to me like a stuck clutch on his 424. He almost drove the tractor into his pond when the clutch would not release while he was brush hogging. (i.e. the tractor just kept driving on even though he had depressed the clutch and hit the brakes) They were in the process of taking the tractor to a mechanic to have it repaired. I have read where starting the tractor with the clutch depressed and chained to a tree or holding it with the brakes can sometimes if you are very lucky, break the clutch loose. I am not familiar with the 424 and I have not looked at his tractor yet either. Is the clutch pressure plate bolts or clutch assemble accessible without splitting the tractor? I was thinking of possibly backing out the pressure plate bolts some to release some pressure and may trying to tap a really thin putty knife or similar tool in between the clutch and pressure plate if the above method does not work. Any of you have this problem before? If so, what did you do to fix it. Splitting the tractor is the last resort but sometimes that just has to be done. Any suggestions, comments, or ideas very welcome. They need to get the tractor running as they use it to maintain their dirt driveway.<br>

Hello folks, I hopped on my TC33D the other day and noticed something kinda strange. The steering wheel was all the way in the forward position(not wher I left it last) I pulled it back into position but it wouldn't lock, it just slowly goes back to the forward position.. which is like driving a bus!<br>

You named all of the stuff that will do a good job. Most of the stuf can be found at auctions. Unless your spare time proffessoring lets you buy new toys.

But you'd be fine with a 2 bottom 14 or 16" plough. The rest is 3ph stuff from tractor supply.

I just do not know how well the culivator would work in a garden. I did not like tending garden because I am to picky and anal about stuff growing that is not suspose to.

I grow some ter-mate-ers in 4x4 boxes but thats it.

I have a LB 1914 with a Kioti 102 loader. Is this loader
made in the USA? The joy stick has a Made in USA label.
The ID plate on the loader has Daedong. I don"t see this
loader listed in the Kioti web site. Thanks,

The price sounds fair to me. I have the same machine 98 7305 w/R4 tires but I bought mine with 390 hrs. I also have the woods 72" mower and have the Cub Cadet 417 loader (I think that it to is a Woods relabeld with CC on it). The whole package including delivery was 13K. But that was 1.5 yrs ago so the machine was newer at the time. It was the best investment ever. I can now mow my lawn in under an hour (3 acres) along with the park and the beach (5 acres) in another 40 minutes (it's flatter and less obstructions). I'm so used to the mower now that I don't even use my push mower to go around trees and other obstructions.

I see you saw my post on 7305 power problem. Outside of the power problem, I love the machine. With the fix of the power problem it is great! It always starts: even when it has been -10 here in MN. My wife hummed and hawwed when we first got it - now she loves it. She uses it to cart stuff all over, move stuff around, and bring up her pickings from the garden. She now says that it was definitely one of the best purchases we made.

If you pick it up - have fun!!!! The price seems right!

Coating with an anti-seize compound does make sense. Looking at the rear axle however, it seems that it would all have to be disassembled to get into it to coat any of the linkages that were having troubles. The linkage that was stuck was the arm that goes through the casting on the rear axle and goes inside the axle itself (it could have been the brakes that were stuck inside - I don't know since I didn't disassemble).

Life is good now however. I think that I will just try to get into the habit of using the brakes more often (I don't think I've used them more than 2 or 3 times in the past year).

I have seen some of those big ag monsters from that era weigh 8000 pounds on the hoof.

I did a search for basic hydraulics stuff some years ago. The JD FOS Manual (Fundamentals of Service) was the best I came up with. FOS is a series that are intended as basic service orientation material for beginning techs. I have the hydraulics and engine manuals. They are available from JD dealers. I do have some other material and may start looking for some community college texts if my minor hobby obsession with hydraulics continues. The FOS manual isn't going to tell you in detail how to take a valve assembly apart or how a draft-control hitch or a HST works, but it isn't bad either.

You might see if the CAD plans company has a plan for a splitter. At least with a plan there's some engineering done so you don't have to guess about geometry, loadings etc. When I guess I end up with something way over-designed.

IT manuals are the after-market manuals I hear about most often. I took a look in the link below and it doesn't look like BX's are covered in the IT series. Maybe the lawn and garden series has something.

For myself, I'd go with the factory manuals. They may be pricey but it's a one-time purchase. You don't have to read these boards very long before reading about somebody who couldn't complete a job because an after-market manual didn't have enough detail (most of them cover more than one tractor). Many of them don't have wiring diagrams either. Factory parts manuals are great since they give the assembly order of every last nut, washer, gasket, shim etc. on a tractor. Parts diagrams in repair manuals aren't near that detailed. A pars manual would seem cheap the first time the assembly order on a shaft is forgotten or there's some hardware left over.

There's lots of reading on the subject in the archives. However, there are no easy answers. A basic idea to have in mind is that no equipment that does reasonable work at realistic prices can be used with a risk of breaking something. Most sub-frame mounts have a bit less risk of breaking things than most 3ph mounts. But then, the extra strength of a sub-frame mount may be irrelevant to light occasional work or a small hoe on a big tractor.

No easy answers I guess. I can say that I've used a 3ph hoe on my Ford 1710 for 5 years and it has done the job without problems. That can't be a recommendation through because your tractor, soil and jobs are likely different than mine. There also was no warranty issue for my Ford. You might go through the archives and talk to a dealer if you already haven't done so. That might clear up the issues and if not then post away. Welcome to the Board.

I bought a TC45 over the JD. Most of the tractors that we had on the farm when I was growing up were JD tractors, so I like that brand very much. I do not regret my NH purchase one bit. I felt that I got more tractor for the money with NH, but a bigger factor was that I did not get along with the JD dealer and I have had nothing but good experiences with the NH dealer. I live in the west in NM. There is only one JD dealer and one NH dealer within 100 miles of where I live, so the dealer/customer relationship is very important.

To be hones; I don't remember and probably did not take notice of it when I had the tractor. Ronnie Bowman was a wealth of information on these tractors and helped me out immensely. I would sugget running these question by him. They have great prices too.

BARNEE, from what you are describing; that sure does sound like a bad or no stat installed. They are cheap and easy to replace. Try changing the thermostat out with a new one. The worst that can happen is that you will end up with a spare.

I once had a customer with a jd850 and # 8 hoe that he used for digging graves. He always used a 36" bucket that I always thought could never work well. I had to do a service call to the cemetary one day to replace a blown hose and when I finished, I watched him dig. It was amazing what he could do with that big bucket. I have had more trouble using a 12" bucket at times. The skill of the operator makes a big difference in how much work can be gotten out of any machine. He was even digging in frozen soil. I'm sure if I tried to use the same machine, I'd have trouble scratching the surface.
