hi,<br>
anyone know if its possible to adjust the <br>
width of the rear axles on the Moline M5<br>
mine (just purchased) measures just under 8'<br>

Jim: I guess with the amount of salt dumped on the highways for ice it'd be hard to make a case that it's an environmental problem, but could be some places. Well, our place and some neighbours did have government paid for drilled wells put in because the highway salt contaminated the surface water, but that's a lot more salt than a couple of tractor tires.<br>

I was mostly thinking that it can't just be dumped on the ground if anything is expected to grow there. I don't know what municipal treatment officials would say but I'd don't think I'd want to put much of it into our septic or gray water systems so I'd probably be stuck with it.<br>

Repair manuals usually have a trouble-shooting chart that gives problems associated with gray, white, black or blue exhaust smoke. Your owner's manual may have such a chart.

Smoke is a good indicator of how a diesel is working and it's good to learn the trouble signs. In this case, Chief's comment sounds right. A puff of gray as power or rpm is added is pretty normal for most engines. Blue smoke is oil and is a sign of problems in a broken-in engine. The blue likely will change to gray after some more hours on the engine. I don't know how many hours these JD engines should have on them before they're considered broken in but 200 is getting there.

I doubt it. Manuals usually are available from dealers and are a bit pricey. They are also very good but are intended more for experienced techs than for learning basic mechanics. Some decent after-market manuals also are available and I think can be ordered through the web. Your dealer service manager likely knows the spec or would look it up.

I looked at the web site for JDT and it looked like they were producing tractors for the domestic Chinese market. Naturally this could change as they improve.
As for the quality of life vs quanity of things debate. Few of us really calculate the total amount of the tax bill nor do we really compare properly with other countries. Unless you live there for a while you really can not understand the differences.

3 cubic feet? I'm thinking 2+ cubic yards in a 36" bucket. I gotta quit playing with the big toys.

3cf is gonna get you a bucket full of gravel or dirt at approximately 300lbs. Add in your fine muck with water and I'd bet you are over 400 lbs.

I guess it gonna depend on how far you have to reach to fill pick and reach to dump.

I have a little 18" bucket on a 4400jd with a 48 hoe frame mounted and a full reach over the side with wet heavy mud tends to tighten the spinter a tad. I have good solid contect with boom down lever at all times. Granted you are looking a bigger machine but it takes alot to handle mud.

Anyone know where I could get a manual for Wayne chipper?<br>
Model #16T318, Serial #300-2017 , I just purchased one and want to know what the tolerance is for setting the knives. It's an old one but works great. It's not on a trailer anymore it has been put on the back of a Korean war era M37 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4, it's a neat little unit.<br>

Rock salt thrown in the fire box will also loosen creosote in stove pipe or flue. Don't recomend useing this method in fire place as it pops an flies around quite a bit. This seems to work as perodic maintance. I still climb up on the roof with the old log chain at least once a year. Makes me sleep better Good luck . Getrdun

If you have a lot of landscaping to do, you will really enjoy having the BX23's BH. As far as future uses, the machine is so maneuverable and compact that I think you will find it handy for lots of jobs. It's easier (and more fun) to start the tractor than it is to go get the shovel, even for small tasks!

The original owners manual that I read online when shopping listed a 30hp engine and 25hp at the PTO with the 3TNE84.(some ads had 27 PTO hp listed? who knows?) When I got my tractor it went to 27hp engine and 24 hp at the PTO with the 3TNE82.<br>

All I can say about the 5hp per foot implement guidlines that are often quoted is that the tractor runs a 5 foot brushhog with ease through anything. I am sure I could use a light duty 6ft cutter for 90% of the stuff I cut. I don't think anyone who owns an older 790 has implements that they can run that a newer 790 can't handle. As MANY have stated, the 790's limitations are lift capacity and traction due to it's light weight not power. Most implements that require more PTO power to run will either be too heavy for the 790s lift capacity or cause wheelies if do you manage to lift them :) If your needs are running implements that need ALL 25/27? PTO hp to the extent that the curent 24 hp won't cut it , then I don't think a 2100 lb 790 is a good choice. That was true before OR after the power reduction.<br>

The tractor works great and will suit the average hobby farmer,horse owner,landowner, etc. fine. It has very good power for it's size and will probably do all the tasks they ask of it. With 6 horses and property to care for I have used it pretty darn hard for 100 hours and it has not disappointed. Bottom line, JD screwed up, but it is still a great tractor especailly for under 15K with a FEL and an attachment or two.<br>

My guess is that the resale on the JD is a little better so you may get the $1k price diff back in the end. They are both nice machines though, and you can't go wrong with either one. Is one dealer better than the other? A good dealer really makes the difference.

i am contemplating taking delivery on a 7800. i have found the same thing as previous posters, just has slightly less features. the 7800 i saw did have cruse control. the only feature i think that would be missed is the telescoping feature the 2710 and 2910 have to make it easier for the 3 point hitch connection.

kabota guy, how do you plow your snow. i am looking for recommendations on what to buy. i am going to get the 7800 with front end loader, grader box for sure. would you recommend the front or rear blade or just use the front end loader?

The 5000 03 Series tractors are John Deere's baseline ag tractors. If you are wanting a basic 50 hp class collar shift ag tractor light on the bells and whistles; they are a good buy. The above post can give you some back ground on other features such as a power reverser and 4WD if you have not considered these options. They are not absolutely required but sure do come in handy in certain uses.

Seems to me that there is a diagram in the assembly portion of the manual for that blower. I assembled mine and recall following the instructions and referring to a diagram. Ck for a manual online at the JD website if you haven't got one.

thanxs everyone, the solenoid works when current is applied whilst in your hand, having removed the side plate of the pump, one can see the mechanism that shuts off the fuel. its like a slide that is stuck. the pump is not removable as a unit but parts may be removed individualy.there is no fuel leaving the pump when i crank it as i have the injector pipes removed. ta gray

Dk35vince has a point about the size of the tractor. I understood you to say that the machine would be used for ocassional mowing and other chores. I guess it all boils down to how you value your time...If a little more "seat time" is worth the $$$ savings for the smaller tractor, then the 1914 is for you. As for me, I would go for the savings on the smaler tractor. What is an hour or two every month worth to you? If you are a very buisy man, and your time is extremely valuable, then you need to consider a bigger machine. The 1914 is a stout, reliable tractor, and you sir have found a good deal... Don't let this one get away.
Please take into consideration that the smaller machine is much more manurevable. If you have been blessed with a bunch of trees and/or other natural obsticals, the smaller machine will in fact be more productive. If your property is "wide open", then a larger machine will cover the ground more quickly.

Good to hear a happy man! The issue of big tractors with small generators may be an issue for people still looking but not for Harvey. I think most melt downs come from people running a generator between its continuous and peak ratings for times longer than the duty cycle rating. That can easily happen with small lower-end generators. The may be advertised to impress by low cost and high peak ratings but at the expense of shorter duty cycles. The generator's breakers protect against peak loads but not against prolonged loads between the continuous and peak ratings. To manage this problem, the generator has to be larger than typical continuous loads. Harvey isn't likely to have this issue but I do. The automatic start up panel discussed here awhile back that shuts down circuits on a priority basis to manage load is a potential fix.
