Morning Art. I solve the bigger bite at the bottom of a hill problem by tweaking the box back slightly with a hydraulic top-link but trying draft control would be interesting. The top-link gives me fairly precise control unlike the 3ph. I solve the dumping box when going over a dip or when cresting a hill by giving the 3eph plenty of float.

When I thought Barnee's comment through I believe I identified a common misconception. The thing is called a lift and it's sort of natural to think that the lift raises when you pull the lever up and lowers when the lever is put down, but that's not exactly what happens. It only lifts if the new position set by the lever is higher than the level of the hitch at that time. It only lowers if there's weight on the lift.

Since I use mine with a lot of float I think that means I'm unlikely to get the right movement at the right time with position control. Draft control could do it better though. It might be less confusing if we stopped calling them lifts but then what else would they be called?

I want to replace my JD 1050 with a new Kubota. Which Kubota would be of equivalent size. We dont use the tractor much at all, but I need something that would move my round bales of hay. I have a hay spear that attaches to the front of the bucket, but have to attach an implement on the back for balance.<br>
What do you suggest. I dont want to spend more than I have to.<br>

One is one too many. You can almost see where they are going with this,it's dollars and cents.(My opinion)It's just a matter of time,first they cave to home depot's
tactics and undercut all of the long time family owned JD
dealers,now they are building them where people get a few dollars a day and no regulations.
I am all for free enterprise, but on a level field.

I am hoping your 36" bucket is a typo. You would need an excavator in the 20+ ton range and 150+ hp to even begin to handle a 36" bucket in marsh. I am using the litest numbers. A 30 ton machine, wide tracks and 250hp would be closer.<br>

Of course you may have seen something in the 36" bucket that will fit and I am unaware. A small wide ditching bucket might work but you are gonna have to be close.<br>

As Art said you'll get more psi out of your tractor but the pto will give you more gpm. But I have seen 2500 psi pto pumps with 20 gpm. The 40 d ought 2 b close to that out of the box.<br>

Mud and muck buckets have some holes in them to let water out and for air in to release the suction of the mud when dumping.<br>

You might try to work a trade with somebody, or maybe even your dealer. I traded my R4s to my dealer for R1s and only paid labor, but they only had around 25 hrs on them.

I saw the new Kubota at the Lawn trade show in St. Louis in Nov. looked like quite the vehicle (well built like all of Kubotas stuff) The sales person told me the price would be around $9000 to $110000 But looked to me to be a better an heavier built machine than the Polaires or mule. I wish they would have been out last year when I bought my Vinson. Happy an Healthy New Year to all Geterdun

Bare with me, I am new with Kubota. Looking at a M5400 to replace an Oliver 1600. Please share any Pros or Cons about the M5400 has a Woods 1020 Loader mounted. Meter says 2000 hrs. Is the price right at $11,500? Use would include mowing fields with a 6' rotary, limited snow removal. Would it pull a four bottom plow?<br>

I think that's great! I would still have caution for fear of a return of the problem if it is rust. There could be changes in the amount of humidity in the storage shelter as to the condensation in the brake area. Good luck!

They keep the system pressure down on the BX's. If memory serves it is around 1800 PSI.

I see a wide or roughly five thousand dollar spread and you still would need to spend more for a mower for the 750. The Kubota mowers have been a good buy for years. Look at the double V width for strength as well as life. The front blowers are easily worth double the money of a front blade if it being hydraulic angle should be worth about 800. Loaders used for compacts have a rough value of 1000 plus. Price of new front blowers if available is roughly 3000 plus. The blade around 1500 and belly mower about 2000 to 2500. I would think that smaller would be better, but with your hilly terrain a low center of gravity would have advantages.

If that is true then it might be wise to go to a junk yard and remove one from a more popular tractor and modify it to fit. The thing to try to find is one with the same size hose so yu only need to modify the bracket that holds it. I have not tried our parts department to see if we have them available.

The 9 inch bucket is really handy there. I assume you are going to use some sort of sonotube to pour concrete into?

Recently I built a 500 foot section of fence out of railroad ties (for uprights) and horse wire.

It was much easier to dig a narrow deep hole with the BX and a 9 inch bucket and backfill the posts so they were square and level than it was to drill a hole with the PHD that would barely fit the the railroad tie and then fiddle with a set of clamshells to get it set right.

Also, any rock bigger than a tennis ball can stop the PHD where the backhoe will pry basketball size rocks right out of the ground.
