As far as the R-4's wearing any faster, I wouldn't think so, if anything it they would probably wear slower as they are stiffer and not as soft as the ag tires or turf tires. Then again it depends how you use the tires too, spinning will make anything wear fast.
As far as filling the tires, mine are filled with anti-freeze which shouldn't freeze or rust since anti-freeze is suppose to protect your radiator from corrosion and rust. If you are getting a FEL, I would definitely either get the tires filled or get wheel weights.
I don't know anything about the 4 in 1 buckets except for they are pretty heavy and if you have a smaller tractor they really reduce your capacity weight wise.

Gale, if you're talking to me it's a grapple. It's great for picking up logs and slash, but there's only so large a log you can pick up - it's only a CUT after all. I can't carry a three foot thick log but all the stuff on our land is 12" or smaller. The grapple I have is a "Bodozer" brand, and you can check them out at the link below. They are built like a tank.

HST's are nice but I'm quite happy with my sycro-shuttle !!
I had straight gear transmission (stop to shift and only 2 reverse gears)in my previous tractor.
The sycro-shuttle I now have is far,far nicer to operate.

I changed oil to Rotella synthetic at 50hrs. The engine used about 1/2qt. during the 1st 50hrs. Since then it hasn't used a drop in 40 more hrs. I have to assume that for all practical purposes my engine is broken in.

I thought exactly the same thing when I got my 3130 home and started using it in the trees and saw it sitting in the garage.
I had completely decided that I wanted a Kubota and had it narrowed between a 2910 and the 3130. There is a good bit of size diference between the two and I really wanted something between them but Kubota doesnt have anything to fill the gap. For just a few bucks (more like a few hundred) more, I decided to go a little big. Sometimes I wish I would have gotten the 2910 but the 3130 just seemed like a lot more tractor for the money

I use a BushHog 48" Squealer with my BX2230. Power is not a problem.

My 5 acres are steep and rough in places and I have to mow with the lift at the top position and still snag the face of the cutter and bottom out in places.

Anyone know of a 48" rotary cutter with better geometry for a sub-compact?

Hey I don't know how I missed this thread, old age and a lack of coffee likely.....

It seems you're a clever bunch indeed, it seems 5 out of 6 posts had it right, LOL.

I got the Okey-Dokey from both the Doctor & my good lady for a few days of liberty, we left the morning of the 23rd and came home last night (28th)... Christmas in shorts by the pool... No boating yet, but soon. I figured, as Art mentioned, if I wasn't going to have a white Christmas I might as well have a WARM Christmas, LOL.

Now off to the farm for the family gathering for New Years, a quiet evening around the fire........

Some systems don't produce much more than the required flow rates for a B/H, so running below that point means you are trying to do the work with less than the required power. Work means heat, more work means more heat.

I think the ole' Chief's idea of cooling efficiency has a lot to do with it also.

I ran the �B2� which is a blend of 2% Bio-diesel for most of the summer in my JD2210. It was $0.05 more per gallon than the regular �On-road diesel�, and about $0.55 more per gallon than the �Off-road dyed diesel�.

I noticed very little difference. Maybe a little less smoke at start-up, and maybe a little smoother sounding. Although, all of this may be only in my head, since I perceived it to be better. I do think if it had been a higher percentage blend, the differences would be more noticeable. I�ve switched back to the regular off-road dyed diesel (due to cost) and use the �Power Service� additive.

She had completely chewed through one conductor and her mouth took it's place. She was on the wood floor so probably wasn't grounded. There are a few divots out of her tongue that probably won't come back and she will lose a couple of teeth but they are still baby teeth. I'm shopping for plug-in GFIs, just in case, but I see what Tom is saying. There's no substitute for getting the cords out of the way though.

The days of a closed economy are gone, regardless of what country you look at, the economy is global.

You can try to hold back the flood gates but it won't work. We all want to make big sales overseas to build a strong economy, but so does EVERYONE, WORLDWIDE.

NAFTA was foisted on Canada by Washington and Mexico City who wanted cheap labour and better opportunities respectively. In the long run it has probably been a good thing for Canada, we lost some manufacturing jobs, but gained a huge amount of investment and technology jobs.

Our agricultural industry has fared the same as that of our nieghbours to the south, but our oil & mining has seen more growth than ever.

All in all, the tide is changing and everybody has to decide whether to swim with it or against it.

I agree with the point about seasoning the wood, it is the MOST critical part of the process.

I burn about 3 full cords a year and have for a long time, I've never (touch wood) had a chimney fire yet. The wood I burn is all hardwood and is a minimum of 1 full year old, usually close to 2 years old. I have the chimney inpected every spring and there is never more than a dusting of creosote in it. Twice a year I burn a 'chimney sweeping log' for good measure, they're cheap insurance. I don't know how widely they are available, but they are a man-made compressed sawdust log impregnated with a chemeical which causes the creosote to dry out flake off and fall down the chimney to be burnt up.

A good check for your firewood is to buy an inexpensive moisture meter from a wood-working supply shop and measure the wood. It should never be more than 10% relative humidity.

20-25 acres is a lot of property to maintain with such a small tractor.I personally would want at least 30 HP or more for that amount of acreage.
The price of the 1914 seems OK, but you may be disapointed with the amout of time it takes to get the jobs done.

The model you were looking at Dennis is the commercial line-up coming up from the older tractors. Many of or all the newer ones will have the Q-tach systems so they will be interchangable.

The lock bar is used to hold the mower deck up when you are using the 3pt. hitch, That is a real pain in the butt to fine tune it, to get it to work properly, You are suppose to lift up on the rod before letting the mower down when you raise it up it should drop into the notch.

Well I couldn't really find a reason for it to be the way it is,but didn't find a way to cure or change it. Did find out others are the same so that is the good point. Now it's just time to adjust ourselves to fit around the equipment.

You might say a bit about how you determined the solenoid is good but not operating the valve as well being certain there's no fuel getting to the pump. You're likely right but there's just a chance something else is at fault. A bit of description might twig somebody's thinking.

It's a little strong to say that tech advice is given here. We mostly blab about stuff we know to varying degrees. There's always the risk of coming away with wrong ideas. Since the solenoid is a safety device it wouldn't be very responsible to consider how to disable it--that's not very helpful I know.

If you're going to remove the pump, I'd check a manual procedure first. Some procedures call for making an index mark before it's removed so the same pump can be remounted without re-timing it. Some re-timing procedures call for tools most people don't have.

The link below shows my blower cable routing. It's not the blower you have but it's probably similar. The cylinder operates an arm. The cable goes once around the chute and the ends attach to the arm ends. The cable is clamped to an eye on the chute with a cable clamp.

I had a quote of $16,900 which included FEL, loaded R-4's, 60" bellymower. I added a 60" box blade and set of rear chains (cross links are every two links) and with tax the total came to a little over $18,000. I don't think I did bad, but I didn't really haggle that much. It's a nice machine and I am very satisfied with it. The only complaint I have so far is that when the bucket is dumped it is only 5.5 feet off the ground which I feel is a little low.
