I'm not sure I'd recommend my hoe for my tractor either. I'm aware I'm doing some risk taking and I hope my discipline in operation is enough to keep me out of trouble.

I've heard of tractors broken in half from 3ph hoes. I've seen a picture of a broken chunk of cases around the top-link mount. As with all equipment use, there are always risks of breakage. Sub-frame hoes can damage tractors as well. I seem to recall that some of the BX chassises have reinforcement kits. I have the impression that they are straps along the bottom of the cases but I don't know if they are independent of Bota hoes for the tractors though. Something like that might help.

Having said that, stresses to the tractor can be reduced by operator technique. The main thing is to avoid digging, lifting or swinging with the boom and stick extended. However, having a small hoe and then not being able to use its full capabilities sort of defeats the idea of having it. A couple of reasonably strong backs and shovels may do the work faster and cheaper. Besides, few operators actually have the discipline to avoid stressing the tractor with a hoe that's actually too big

There are certainly books and I might look for some myself. It would take some study.

I suspect that for most crops entirely passive energy systems for a greenhouse wouldn't do it. Supplemental lighting also would be needed for many crops. I imagine you get short days and clouds during the winter. Many plants make plenty of foliage in moderate temps but don't produce much to eat without a lot of light.

I'd probably start off thinking of it as a good place to spend some time during the winter and all the better if it also produced something to eat. I don't imagine that economically the idea is going to compete with the grocery buz. Off the top of my head I think watercress might be an idea. Around here the stuff grows in the streams when there's still ice. A diet of watercress wouldn't appeal to me much but the works could be made fairly attractive with mini-falls, fountains etc. As I say, I'd think of it as someplace where I'd want to be rather than someplace that produces groceries.

I bought a JD 2210 for the exact same reasons kwschumm stated. I plan on keeping this unit for a long time, so ergomomics was a big factor. You might as well be comfortable on the equipment you are going to spend a lot of time on. Plus I liked the looks better!

There may be regs for ponds larger than some volume and that would be good to check out. Similarly, I can't see a reason for not checking with health officials about septic codes since the daily fines for illegal operation can be pretty steep.

Most times older systems are grand-fathered and new codes don't apply unless changes are made but there may be maintenance requirements such as inspection and pumping. It'd be good to know requirements and the last time the system was inspected and pumped. If the in-law building is intended for occasional recreational use a separate system might be approved some places and alternatives less expensive than a new septic system may be available. We took an old system out of commission and installed a composting toilet and gray water pit at our camp for that reason.

I'd study on the pond idea a bit--there are books. I know aeration is a key to clear water and large concrete bowls are available that people cascade water from one to the other for aeration but I think it'd take quite a bit of flow for larger ponds. Some plants also help keep clear water. Such methods might keep decent water without the need for flow-through--which would create a need for connection to a surface waterway and going through more regs.

I think it would freeze during the winter but that shouldn't be a problem, although some constructions probably are better than others. For the buildings, some combination of aggregate base, drainage and concrete reinforcement would work for the area. There are other foundation types that may be easier if floors will be build. No foundation at all works pretty well for small structures.

Mabey, just mabey, I have thought of a product that is 100% produced here in the States..... BEEF. Yes, that good tasting, bad for your health (according to some folks)wonderfull slice of meat.
The corn and other grains most likely was grown here. The farm machinery probably came from some where else, the trucks involved with production may have imported steel,plastic, etc. The package that the beef was in when I purchased it may not be U.S.A.... But the cow, chicken, or pig, I bet, was a Red Blooded, Tax Paying American.

If the "spreader" that you are talking about is a manure spreader, and if it has been taken care of (that is cleaned out after every use to prevent rust) Then you sir, have found a real deal. Don't let it get away.

Have got to run them hot with dry HARDWOOD.
My house is 4 yrs old, burn 4-5 cords a yr. with an allnighter woodstove. Have never had to clean the stack
just the clean-out. The creosote will drop down when the
chimmney expands from the hot fire.
I buy year old cut and split,(getting lazy)and put it right in the cellar.If you try to make it last buy slowing down the fire you will plug up.

the fuel shut off solenoid works but the "thing" inside the pump<br>
that the solenoid pushes seems to be in the shut off position and there is no fuel <br>
getting through.<br>
I have tried to free it but it seems stuck, please what is the best way around this<br>
as I don't really need the solenoid anyway.<br>

Hi Chief, I ave been busy with the holidays. I have 90 something trouble free hours now and need a good snow storm to reach 100.

I was just kidding with the 3000 RPM thing. I actually had to adjust my throttle just to get the low rpm and high rpms right at specs. Now I have 2810 for the high.

I agree, most people won't even notice the change, JD jst mishandled the thing. I don't think it was done to bedishonest, but they need some proofreaders at the marketing dept :)

Shortmagnum - yes I'm a former IBM'r. Saint Mary's is my alma mater and they asked if I would come back and teach - it was the family time vs work time issue (I had my first child just after starting there and a few more later). I wanted more time at home with my kids under less pressure at work. I loved it there - but I love teaching more!

As for the foodplot to take those bucks - YES SIR!!! I have lots of deer around (a few nice bucks) but would like to see more of them with nicer racks.

Art - thanks for the input - I'll see what I can find out about the breakdown of the braking system and hopefully it can be prevented (maybe I just need to use the brakes!!!! they hardly see any use).

I'll keep you all posted - I hope to be in the shop in a week or so!

Can anyone share any information on the Titan Multi-trac tires that are coming thru on the newer Kubotas? Mine are on the 2910 I just purchased. I got them on mine..hope I made a wise decision. I have some softer ground here, but also need winter traction..they are gentle on the lawn, but agressive enough to compare to a good off road truck tire, in my opinion..was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them, or can share an information as to their usefulness. I need a diagram or info on installing a new cable that turns the chute on my 47 inch snowblower, I have mounted on my 425 JD tractor. The chute is hydraulicly moved. Anything on the net where I can get a route diagram?

We've been ordering by the container load for some time and it does leave you without from time to time. I've got some coming in now from the warehouse as our containers are still out a week or two. Several years ago had to go to hershey for a Gehl dealers meeting and they were bombed with snow I think about 15-18". I often remember the little B-series in nearly every parking lot just working away. Snow banks 10 foot high and a little bota driving up the banks with another bucket of snow.

There will be clutching, as when you need to inch into an area to hook up to the hitch, even loader work. You will not be doing the normal clutching to change directions as that works so easy with the hydraulic shuttle. When you want to change speeds you just move a lever to increase or decrease the speed. I like using the foot throttle with these units as they make it so smooth. For mowing in tight quarters give me a hydro for optimum efficency, the variable speed and to go forward and reverse so smooth and quickly. The hydro comes the closest to being like driving an automatic transmission only better. I'd say to go and try the glideshift tansmission. It's been in the fifties here in NY but on the worst day for cold I'd still think my front line tractors always start for demo!

if you do alot of mowing in the summer you might want to change your air filter more often than under the normal conditions . your cub seems to smoke more when you loose power ,if i am right it will get worse and cause bigger problems down the road.hope this helps
