OK, assuming the quality of JD is the same as Kubota for a similar tractor why should you spend more for the JD? I sure found JD prices to be more expensive and the JD people I talked to had a pretty superior attitude. The same with New Holland. The local NH dealer wanted as much for a tractor alone as I paid for my Kubota WITH their best loader and valving.

So price was a big consideration for me. That and the fact that my brother in law has a 4310... :-)

Thanks Richard for getting back to us. My 284 is in better shape and paint wise after 230 hours than when I bought it. I keep it inside and always wash it after use. Sometimes it gets a good work out. I have repainted areas as they needed it.I am fussy this way. My Kubota is the same as my Cubs.<br>

For Chief, I also installed my ZL-20 FEL. It took two people and was not bad to do. However it is not quick att. I would not take it off as I think it would be a pain and time cosuming. This loader is not in mind of changing front attachments.<br>

I never take mine off as it is used most of the time. I never added the extra support to the rear axle but have planned to as others say this is better. I lift up to 1000 lbs of stumps steady and don't see any point being stretch or weekened. I have make the forks so they att. to the bucket.

My "blue" dealer strongly cautioned me about putting a backhoe on a compact (mine's 33hp). He said the bell housing bolts stretch/break especially when using the hoe itself to move forward/backward which happens more often than not.

I don't think that is to bad a price for the labor. Does it include the trucking? I would ask for the parts back and then you can see where the major problem is and what might have caused it. I just have to know things like that.

Yes NAFTA did and still does suck... I was in the trucking industry when came in... I made a small fortune moving industry from the Great Lakes area to the Port of Houston, Ventura California, Southern California, and some east coast ports. We moved everything from furniture, to the machines off shore. The working class people and buildings stayed back, there jobs went away.
Its good to know that the vinal is made here... I wonder where the crude oil came from.
I sure wonder if we got into a real war, where would we get the raw materials to make the things, to build the things we need to defend ourself.
This is still a great country. Just look at all the people who are desperatly trying to get in.

There has been a great deal of speculation on this topic. Some think that the EPA forced them into the change, but we have seen no other engine changes with other manufacturers or models.

I subscribe to the theory that in the no-frills tractor market, anywhere you can shave a buck off the production cost makes the manufacturer that much more competitive.

I think Deere went to a slightly smaller engine to save money and stay in the game.

It is unfortunate that they didn't announce the change to the buying public.

For heaving to occur there is typically water involved. If the soil was perfectly dry the soil temp could go below freezing and not cause movement. So yes, water in the concrete could cause frost heave also.

Here for storage buildings/garages we sometimes pour a "floating slab" where there are thicker footings around the outside of the slab (e.g. 16" x 8"). Then the whole building is a unit that can move slightly. My shop is on a floating slab and I have had absolutely no problem over the last 7 years. Then again we have sandy soil that drains easily so water not usually a big problem. Again your local agency will be able to tell you what is permitted.

One post, two people helped! Just like xmas for me! The glideshift was introduced in the mid 80's so it is coming up for it's twenty year reunion in a few years. There has been some changes and all for the plus. The newer ones shift quicker and they have been improved for cold weather operation, they now have the 12 speeds forward where they were just 8 speeds.

I am planning on using a disk harrow on my uneven spots this<br>

for 100.00 bucks. I also have an old spring tooth that has<br>
worked well for the 2 acs. I have done so far, the disk should work better for the first pass though. Then, spring tooth or aka leveling harrow. I went to the local gravel<br>
pit and got an old 3/4 screen, I drag that around after the spring tooth,spread starter fert. seed and roll,hay and keep it wet until your sick of watering. My friend the landscaper swears by this method here in Maine. Water,Water<br>

If you live in farm country you should be able to find these old <br>
tried and true implements fairly easy and cheap. The part<br>

dave light powdery snow is a problem for most blowers if you are looking for distance.

The confusing part of your post is the problem with wet snow.

I am gonna shoot in the dark here and suggest a faster ground speed.

Blowers need a fair amount of material to work good. Wahct is front of your blower are you pushing a little ridge of snow? If so slow down a notch if not speed up some.

If you are uncomfortable with the backwards speed try using your scraper blade a windrow the snow then blow the windrow at a slow speed.

Pacesetter I see JD knows what local brands are worthly of the JD name outside of US market. They do the same with Zetor in Europe/Africa markets. People in US often refuse to use their heads and pay attention to JD's endorsement of "Off Brands" without knowing JD, NH and Kubota are "Off Brands" in some parts of the world. :)

I guess my lacks of posts is proof of how well my 4410 has been doing!! My 4410 has been just great. I had a 4310 for about a year and only traded it to make some attachment changes. The over-all price I was given didn't give me any cause not to go with the 4410 so I did. I not sure if I can say for sure if I sense the HP increase. Seat of the pants feeling under load is that it is a bit stronger.

For me I have found the 72" deck is a much better fit for this tractor than the 60" I had before. I get more mowing done in less time plus I can get closer to objects since the deck extends out past the tractor more. The 48 hoe can really do some work. I also got the HD bucket for the 430 loader. I added the larger alternator and a block heater at purchase time. I really like the block heater. Never had starting issues with the 4310 but the 4410 just fires right up on the coldest days and seems ready for work right away. I can only think it has to help with preventing engine wear.

The box blade and the post hole digger sold by most dealers are after-market, they are available normally at a better price. Kubota does have good quality accessories.
