I'm not sure about costs since I don't have loaded tires myself. That's good since I drive on the lawn sometimes even if I don't use the tractor for mowing. I depend on 3ph weight when needed for loader work and you might see how yours works with the weights and an implement before loading the tires. Sounds like the neighbourhood association might be highly sympathetic if all those gallons of fill wipped out their 'communally seen' yards. Well guess you could explain that's it's just beet pulp (Rimguard) but I don't imagine they'd see any humour in such a story or anything else probably.

There are mobile tire repair shops most places that will come and do it. I've heard of people buying a valve stem gadget and doing it themselves with drill motor pumps. That's probably cheaper but not easier since you'd have to have containers, mix it if it's not window washer fluid and then dispose of any left over.

Tom, if you look at the paddles on the blower the Provenost are a cup style instead of flat metal with a bent lip to hold the snow. That style was used on the allied is or was the normal way of building them 20 to thirty years ago and more. It is cheaper to build of coarse and the process takes less time then what provenost uses so it goes with out saying that given the two are the same price the one is a better value. Specs often seem to be identical but when you get into the workings from one model to the next that is where you will often see the efficency of one design over the other. I did leave it open to the fact I've not seen anything blow like the high end provenost like what Harvey has but there maybe something out there I've just not had the oppertunity to see it in action for a like comparable.

The thread doesn't have the whole discussion but if I understand, it's likely not an issue if the valve assembly is left on the tractor. A pump for an open centre system always needs a return to the reservoir and the valve assembly provides that. Without quick-connects on the loader cylinder hoses, there'd be the chance of oil on the ground if the valve were operated when the loader disconnected. Many tractors have a diveter valve that disables flow to the auxiliary system (loader valve in this case) that could be changed to 'remote' when the valve isn't in use for a long time.

I don't know what parts are included but in the world of tractor parts almost anything that fits on any tractor for $177 would be a bargain. I think I'd want the parts in hand before the money left mine and also know the origin of them as well.

I don't know the tiller but it almost certainly would have one or more and it'd be good to locate them. I have two types myself. The snowblower depends on one in the PTO shaft. It is on the tractor end of the shaft--a small bolt that goes through the flange and is parallel to the. My post hole auger has its own pin, which is a 5/16th-grade 2 bolt that goes through the output flange of the gearbox and auger shaft.<br>

A unit could have a pin either or both places. If they need to be replaced the grade of the bolt should be known. Most often they are ordinary grade-2 hardware bolts but occasionally harder bolts are used. It's important to not use a harder bolt than is speced by the manufacturer. A softer one may break during normal operation. If the tiller is used and the pin maya have been replaced or there's a possibility the pto shaft came from a different place than the tiller it's important to know that an appropriate pin is somewhere in the drive train.

My neighbor (he's in his seventies) got knocked off his tractor by a limb while bushhogging. Lucky for him he got caught on the hitch frame of the bush hog & was dragged on the ground beside the bush hog & didn't get run over by it or the tractor. The tractor drug him about 100' until it ran into the barbed wire pasture fence he was mowing parallel to & was stopped by a corner post. Then it just spun it's wheels til we found him shortly thereafter. He ended up with a dislocated shoulder & a few bruises, but it could have been a lot worse. Where the accident occurred was out of sight from his house & ours too. Luckily we had something to do in that area that day & found him on the ground with the tractor still running.

Good to hear that engineers are getting some design time for this sort of thing. I remember the discussion where a new owner drove his HST tractor over an embankment because he used forward rather than reverse. We all program ourselves to do repetitive tasks automatically and reliably. Some control layouts just work better and produce fewer operating mistakes than others. There is research for studying this kink of thing but I forget what it's called.

I think it would be good if the control layout on all tractors were fairly standard and also similar to road vehicles. I know we all adapt to what ever controls we have but it would be good if we didn't have to think what we're doing if we operate a different tractor. Well, my column gear shift is on the left and after a long hard tractor day, I occasionally hop in my 1/2-ton and put it in drive with the turn signal. I feel pretty silly but I guess it's better than driving into a tree or something.

I just can not believe all of us dumb ole farm boys kept our equipment running all these years these years with our fuel stored in steel painted tanks or a quick trip to the field with a gal 5 gallon can or plastic jug. My goodness to follow this thread would scare the life out of a tractor to know the fuel they run on might have been stored in something less than... I'm not sure what.

Reading this I wonder how the steel fuel storage tanks at home have lasted over 30 years.

I hope my tractor never finds out how my fuel is stored at the distributor and what the truck looks like that it is hauled here.

I have never seen a 100+ gallon fuel or gas storage tank that was galvanized or glass lined. I do not even think I have ever heard of one and I thought I had been a lot of places and knew quite a bit, until this thread.

I do remember issues with non fuel rated rubber hoses...I do remember issues with gas and styrofoam cups...

I guess I need to get out more.

Good to hear from the far north. I spent 6 years up there. 3 at Anchorage and 3 in Fairbanks.

I especially remember the snows in the Girdwood area South toward Seward. It will take a lot more blower than what you have if you get near those kinds of snow.

A word of caution from someone who's been there and done that. Get rid of the grade 5 shear bolts. Shear bolts are meant to be the weak point if the shear bolt does not shear and you bend your auger from a limb, block of wood, rock or a solid block of ice it will be a whole lot harder to shovel while you wait for parts to fix blower.

Just an aside, Chief, my sentiments exactly! concerning the golf course lad who was being beaten down with ordinances. I bought 8 acres and built my barn, pasture and was told by the township horses were not allowed..I'm five miles outside a small town! but I fought them and won. But you are very correct, our liberties are fast being erroded every day. They are making zoning laws so restrictive, makes me wonder why I put four long years in for Uncle Sam, back in the early 60's...thanks for helping me out with the post on the JD4210. I'm still confused on which to buy but am narrowing my search.

I used to cut my pastures with a Cub 154 Lo Boy. It had the original MMM that came on it new. Did a good job but was just getting too old to keep up. Was a good little tractor.

Do I need a JD 42104WD or go smaller

I saw the picture from the angle out the door I suspected they started in the hanger. The Helio would do that with with maybe the tail in the door.
I never flew a beaver with out floats but have seen them take off with floats empty and a 15 mph head wind in one length of the plane.
Have you ever seen a Buffalo make a full STOL landing and takeoff? One plane length each and this is a big plane.
I am not sure you could get me to cough up 500K for a Maule turbo. I guess I would look at something a little more rugged if I was going to spend that much. I guess Beaver are near that now though and not exactly new.

Richard, you're right on about playing around at home. I can weld OK with my Lincoln 220 AC welder, but the MIG is new to me. Still, I enjoy learning about some of the mixed gases. Books will only get you so far.

I'll probably end up using argon for the thin aluminum, and flux core wire for sheet steel. And still use the big arc welder for fixing my back blade, which I seem to break every time I use it:-)

Hi and thanks for the reply. I don't know how I could use the glow plugs longer than the proper amount of time though the thought has crossed my mind. On my 7265 the first position to the right on the ignition switch heats the glow plugs. When the yellow indicator light on the control panel goes out after aprox 5 seconds I turn the ignition switch to the start position. This is all there is to it and she fires up if the glow plugs are working like they should. I'm so stranger to diesel tractors. My Kubota is 10 yrs old and I have never had a problem with its glow plugs. In warm weather I may only have to glow plug the engine once unless I leave the tractor sit all day long from its first use of the day. I hope it was just a bad batch of glow plugs. Maybe they were manufactured out of the wrong type of material or something, I don't know, thanks.

The 1050 is a very reliable tractor. What model loader does it have? There are a couple of possible deere models. Or is it an aftermarket one? What size and weight are your round bales? A 1050 definitely will not handle large round bales safely. Smaller ones probablly can be handled if tractor is properly ballasted. One thing to be aware of on a 1050 is the clutch is very expensive to replace. Keep that in mind when dickering on price if clutch does not feel good. Usually the first sign of a worn clutch on these is difficulty releasing the pto clutch or inability to engage pto without scraping gears.

The narrowest position is not acceptable for the rear wheels with R1�s according to my owner�s manual. Mine is a L3300 so it might be different. The disk should be angled away from the tractor and the rim would be bolted to the outside of the disk. On mine that would give you 48� You might have to re- mount your tires on the rims to abtain this!

How easy are these decks to remove? I know the one on my B8200 is not easy and is real heavy for one person to deal with. Is the 54" that much easier as stated previously because of 6" less width?

I agree that it would be best to change the fuid when changing out the fluid, but Deere's instructions do say to use the old fluid over, but they also recommend using their "oil cart". This special tool is a pump and filter system that is very effective in cleaning up any impurities in the oil. If your dealer does not have this tool, I would definitely use new oil, even if I had to pay for it myself.
