I am thinking of moving the whole plow mechanism forward and having sit of a round piece of steel so that it can tilt side to side. It is going to have to be a pretty beefy piece.

The link below goes to a list of salvage yards. I know nothing about it other than it's something I stumbled across. Many yards don't have much for compacts and smaller though.

Ask the Kubota dealer to throw in a 27 foot ratchet strap with a 10,000 pound working limit (just to be on the safe side). Then use the strap instead of the seatbelt.

I really don't think there is much difference in the quality between the two brands. I think the difference comes in the small intangibles such as dealer, ergonomics, price negotiations, little extras thrown in such as maintenance, etc. The JD dealer I contacted acted as if I was inconviencing him, thus JD was scratched from my prospective list.

The idea of 'live and let live' sure does get lost in government machinery sometimes. Neighbourhood associations are government in my book and usually pretty self-indulgent government.<br>

We had an illustration that nobody is safe from nonsense even in the country. The large rural township where my brother in law lives amalgamated with an adjacent town--they were sort of forced to by big government. The new town council passed a bylaw limiting the number of cats that could be kept--guess it was a problem in town. Well, there was sensitivity that town and country are different so the bylaw allowed farmers to have more cats then townees--recognizing the value of barn cats in controlling mice etc. However, the barn cats still had to be licensed. <br>

I think that licensing barn cats was so dumb it probably was never enforced. Funny, I always thought the purpose of barn cats was to improve my aim--with milk that is. Our township escaped amalgamation by just sitting it out. We're so small we can't be found. Small is good. Our entire council was returned by acclimation last month. We're happy too. Sorry about the tractor. Here people have 'truck farms' sitting around but we don't need associations. Wives get rid of them if they get too big.

Howse is ok, but not near the quality of a Woods implement. I have a Howse rotary cutter I bought mainly because I was going to abuse it to clean a lot off and after that it's use would be very little. If you are going to use the post hole digger for your own use and not commercial I would think it would be fine. If you are planning on using this implement frequently you may want to spend a little more and get a better implement.

Generally it's good to keep discussions together. I made a couple of suggestions and questions (maybe not that good of ones) in the original thread but my post may have been longer than you can see.

I was hoping somebody who knows the tractor would comment about the linkage. My only thought is that it might have something to do with a two-stage clutch, although my Ford works from only one shaft going into the housing. You might indicate if the pedal has the feeling of free-play at the top followed by tension. Hope you get this one figured out. That's no way for a new used tractor to be treating its owner.

Hi alll I just recently joined tractor point and was hoping hear some opinions as I am almost ready to make a deal on a new b7610. My Dealer (central Indiana) is expecting his first b7610 to be deliverd soon. He has offered me a B7610hsd with 302fel,front grill guard, chain hook, folding rops,r-4 tires,60" mower,and a Woods 6500 backhoe subframe mount pto driven all for $21000. Is this a fair price? Also he said the woods bh is less costly and is a good bh. What do you think? I have 5 acres, large yard some horse pasture. I need to dig out a few rocks, dig up small tree stumps, clean ot the horse stall and mow. Thanks all

I think Harvey's has to work much better than mine. Mine doesn't do much at 1500 engine rpm and everything I heard about Pronovost's suggests the performances aren't comparable. There are a few other high-end blowers mentioned sometimes.

Sure would be good to see a demonstration and I'm thinking that a demo might be simulated. If the pto does run at 435, that is 79% of rated speed. Reducing engine pto rpm to 79% on another tractor might simulate how it would perform. That would be 1889 for a pto rpm of 2400. If the 425 speed is accurate it seems like the performance would be better than Harvey's experience at 1500. At least I think my reasoning here is sound.

For comparing blowers, I think that tip speed is the most important factor in how far snow is thrown. I'd keep in mind that a small diameter fan has to have higher rpm to achieve the same tip speed. Seems like there's a decent chance the idea would work pretty well, although the chute may tend to clog more often if run at lower speeds. Guess there'd be some potential for fine-tuning if necessary.

What BMO says is true. I think a test for worn gears is excessive backlash. Excessive bearing run-out is another issue. Specs are needed but an experienced tech likely could tell just by wiggling it. Backlash on some gearboxes is adjustable by shimming. Some bearing clearances are adjustable by pre-load settings.

My notion is that a trip to a good TX shop might save time and money thrashing around for new parts. However, if the box can't be completely checked out it'd be good to put in new everything.

If you have a loader set it on the ground with a little pressure. If not you will have to block the front axle on bothe sides between farme and axle. Or use 2 jacks.

I use a small floor jack and lift the tractor at the drawbar mounting point. Switch the wheels.

It depends on how deep the dish is on the front tires. But usually there is a steering issue with the tires hitting the mower decks or the loader. I have always felt that it put udue stress on the axle components but can not support that statement with data.

The 48" King Kutter works well on my BX22. TSC had them for 519.00 when I bought it. If you are going to do serious brush whackin' I wouldn't go any bigger. If you are just going to do rough mowing you could probably even go 60".

I recently built model 821, I got the super boom and I like it because you can dig deeper and do not have to move it as often, even tho it is real easy to move around.. I am very well satisfied with its performance Good Luck

My buddy who i get my topsoil screens it himself and the stock pile is covered to keep the topsoil dry. He get the soil off farmers field before they build houses. Which is funny because i come in and put it back. Sometime the topsoil taken and replace on the same house. I get topsoil delivered at $20 a yard. Everybody else $25. Get dry topsoil it helps. Also a 10% peat most,30% sand and 60% top soil is called loam, which doesn't compact itself. I had to expain how to make that to my buddy. The grass grows like you wouldn't belive. I used loam on one area of a customers lawn. The grass grew so well that i had to come back and redo the rest of the yard to make the grass match.

The 801 series tractor had several models, 3 of which are missing PTO, 3point or both. Those are the 811,821 and 831. They all have a 172 cu in red tiger engine with about 48 horsepower. The 841 has a 4 speed transmission, the 851 has a 5 speed transmission and single stage clutch, the 861 has 5 speed and dual stage clutch. 871 and 881 are selectospeed transmissions with the 881 having ground drive / 2 speed PTO. $3000 is a fair price for a good 841 and shredder, a good price for an 851, and a very good price for an 861. I have no knowledge of the value of the other models. The machine will work well with a 5 or 6 foot shredder but you really need an over running coupler to keep the shredder from pushing the tractor when you push in the clutch.

Some of the earlier versions had problems with front axle scuff but there was a PIP out to replace them if the tractor had a MMM. I think you will be very impressed and satisfied with the 4300. If the tractor does not have this PIP applied, I would demo and verify the front axle does not have this problem as you DO NOT want it if you plan to use it to cut lawns/turf (the front axle will tear up the turf). I think you would be even more so with the 4310 equipped with ehydro. All depends on your person preferences. If you go waaaaay back in this section (ie: 1999 - 2001 time frame) you will find several posts on these tractors as they were going through some growing pains when they first came out. You're gonna make Art feel bad talking about that John Deere QUALITY. ;o)

The replies you have received are right on the mark. The ideal tractor would have an independant PTO and much lower gearing than the Jub has. There are several who claim satisfactory results with the old Fords by making several shallow passes with a tiller, but most feel that if the garden is big enough to cost justify a 3 point tiller (versus hiring it done or even a big Troy Bilt) it is probably big enough to plow and disc. A Jub will plow and disc all day long and never complain. In my case I have an 8N and an 850 (so no horsepower concerns)and would not even consider a 3 point tiller because soil has so much clay it would take a huge number of passes to get acceptable results.
