Thanks Art, It's really still a project also. I have a stripped rust free body from Arizona up on a rotisserie. The inside, bottom and engine compartment are sandblasted and painted (Big Bad orange). I still have to paint the main body. I just finished rebuilding the engine (most everything new except the crank and rods). I think I should be able to get it on the road by this summer.

My wife told me this morning "that as some guys get older they get a Corvette" I think she is telling me I am having a mid life crisis.
With that suggestion to get a tractor, came a very very very long Honey do list and she keeps talking about all things that we can get done.
Which I really don't mind any of, as long as I get to play on my Tractor ( That is once I get it )

I'm not familier with that model but there is a serial number break at 589189-K900218 is yours above or below? They were all built in England but many companies had different models and features depending on north or south of the border.

Boy, it's xmas time and poor Murf is getting beat up! There are a lot of things that have been done that are quite economical and work fine for some people, others destroy them. Each situation needs to be evaluated on it's own merits.

Wildman, they are a great heater but just remember we oftem find things when we are moving snow that weren't there the last time. Don't forget yur jacket and gloves. I sound just like your mother don't I?! They do have a good package at this time.

I just checked out the hydraulic top link kit from Carter and Carter. Very nice setup. Believe it or not, I think the shortest version will work well with my BX. It does have TTLS (see Mark's post), but I actually need the ability to lengthen the link to between 20"-22" while blading and retract to about 16" to pick the blade edge up 8"-10" off the ground when the lower links are already at the top of their travel. The link kit cost is reasonable, but as for the valve kit from Kubota... might not be so reasonable.

There's lot of discussion in the archives--mostly about the speed of splitters driven from tractor hydraulics. If the tractor has a loader and the splitter has it's own control valve, the splitter lines could be installed in the loader valve's power-beyond line (an assumption is that the loader valve is PB rated). A short hose has to be available to splice the PB line back together when the splitter isn't mounted. Many manufacturers supply PB kits for that purpose, although back-hoes are the more common application.

You might want to think about how any valve that's on the trailer would work in the tractor's system. Even if it were an open center type it probably wouldn't carry the flow of the tractor's system. It should work as a leg from a control valve on the tractor for a single acting cylinder if bungeed one way for lifting and the other way for lowering. I'm assuming it's a single acting cylinder. The lift speed may be too fast if driven from the tractor's pump, but flow restrictors or fancier solutions could be used.

I think I said 'bucket could flop up' about Murf's sneaky and cheap idea when I meant 'unexpected dump,' which could be more of an issue but still worth thinking about. Another reason for a shut off valve might be to keep air out of the hose when the rear leg wasn't in use. If air from cavitation etc. collected in the line the bucket circuit would be spongy and the line would have to be bled.

Chief, I spent about a half hour to an hour on a e-hydro this past week playing with a loader on a couple loads of stone dust from ten wheelers. I guess I found the way you didn't want the switch for loader work as it was spinning the tires all the time and I found the way it was far to forgiving as it wouldn't climb a hill with a load and I found that frustrating. It really does take some getting used too as for part of what I was doing I thought I had it mastered, then I had to change the switch to get the rest done. Ch47's really weigh 50,000lbs I know they are a lot more then the C-D models heuys? We've been using 600lb Cadet garden tractor hydro's to tow 15000lb ag tractors from time to time for quite a few years I guess that would be a proper comparison.

Will I don't have any books here but the head torqing procedure always starts in the center and works it's way to the outer ends. Most bolts by diameter have a limit.

Your 1194 should have it. Do you have a back blade for it? Drop the blade to the lowest level and lower the draft to light and you can get the blade so it will only lightly scuff the driveway as it is light draft. To put full weight of the blade move the lever the other way to heavy.

I'm ging to turn some questions around here. Do you think that if someone was going to build a drive system to add a snowblower to the front of a tractor that could be used at it's maximum efficency, do you think they would build it weak? Do you think they would start out with a blower that on the three point hitch would sell for 1299? Now lets add the hydraulic lift system. Thats where you an get to three thousand dollars quickly. The blower units normally used are of the 2000 dollar retail plus if it was three point hitch.

Kully, I know what you mean about being in the adirondacks! When it snows it snows!!! I normally have always said that four wheel drive is good for 20 horsepower on slippery sufaces and I don't see any thing in your lineup of attachments that needs more than the smaller L-series chassis but I would recommend the larger horsepower of them for the snow. The M-series would put you more into the same weight class as your current tractor so the four wheel drive would be a big big increase which you know. The attachents you have migh be dwarfed by the tractors ability and you migh feel a need to update or resize for a proper balance.

Barnee every gauge has it's own caracteristics and unless youwere out bush hogging with a consistant load you might not have it warm up much. There are many ways to check the temperatures easily including the simple and econolical temperature checker at any NAPA or parts store for under
$10.00. You may also have some fun with the new laser unit for around $70.00! Just idling or small work the temp shouldn't go up to much.

I live in w.va. too and agree about the 4 wheeler problem.When I was a teen,two wheeled dirt bikes were the thing,but you had to have safty sticker,license on bike,drivers license,plus helmet,why is a 4 wheeler any different?All you have to have to ride one of those,[I believe]is insurence and helmet,and to top it off those things are not made to be ridden on hardtop.As far as people having no consideration for their neighbors,that problem is getting worse because we now all have more neighbors,what, isn't their like twice as many people in the u.s. as there was about 40 years or so ago? And we keep letting them in at the borders,I believe we have enough u.s. citizens now to probagate the country for ever,we can now stop getting new ones in from other countrys,they might be able to come and visit a while,but then go home. zodiac, you need to get a good quality beefy 1/2 drive torque wrench and sockets big enough for the bolt heads. Check frame and wheel bolts after the 1st hour of operation and every 4 hrs. afterwards until torques are stabilized to include the FEL if equipped.

The 50 hr. service is outlined and coverd in your owner's manual but basically you need to:

change engine oil & filter
change transmission oil & filter
clean & inspect transmission suction screen
change suction side filter
check alternator belt tension
check radiator hoses & clamps
check air filter hoses & clamps
check wheel bolt torque
check & set tire pressure
lubricate lower brake pivots
check for loose or missing hardware
check front axle oil level
clean rock shaft control valve filter (if so equipped)
check air restrictor indicator & replace primary filter if indicator is set

I would also HIGHLY recommend that you inspect the battery & area surrounding the battery paying special attention to check for corrosion or evidence of battery electrolyte leaking from the battery and being drawn into the transmission oil cooler and radiator. Mine does this occasionally after very long runs so I check and wash down that area after each use.

Don't cut corners on filters or oil. Buy good quality of both. The John Deere stuff is not that much more than what Walmart has. (at least my dealer gives me a great price) The 50 hr. service is the MOST important service your tractor will ever have and it pays to do it by the book. Some dealers will say there is no need to change the oil and it will look just like new coming out. Most times they are right.........right along with the metalic and other break-in particles that may or may not be there is varying sizes and quantity. A small amount is not unusual. The point being it is best to flush as much of that stuff out of there as possible as it can reak havoc with the hydraulics and ehydro transmission down the road if not removed. The filters should catch most if not all of the particles but not always.

If not already equipped and you live in an area where winters can get pretty cold; you might consider installing a block heater to aid the warm up and cold starts. They are threaded plugs on your engine.

That is pretty much it and take a look at your FEL operator's manual to be sure you get any lube/service requirements while you are at it. Get her started off right for the New Year and best wishes for the holidays!
