Yeah, my angle of attack may have been off slightly those times. I was trying not to scalp the ground so I may have been too shallow.

We seem to be in the middle of a typical western Oregon winter - rain, rain, rain. I've used the new tires just a little and so far I like them better than the R4s, but as soft as the ground is right now I need to wait for it to firm up a bit before giving them a good workout. If I drove on it now it would be like driving into a mud bog and sinking. Heck, I can't even walk on the soil without sinking in an inch or two. Trees are falling over right and left in mild 20 mph winds.

I designed a smaller less expensive (or complicated) version that merely goes on the sub-frame for a rear blade a few years ago.

It is a hydraulic powered log tong that has a shank the same diameter as that on your rear blade. you undo the big nut that holds the blade in place and forms the swivel, the tong has a shank that bolts in the same place. That way you're not paying for a second sub-frame, you utilize the one you already have.

We're just about in the same weight class buddy : Believe me, that seemingly small ammount in relationship to the tracor can be the difference between smooth sailing and a WHEELSTAND :0

The ballasted tires would be great but I need to mow an already soft lawn.

Anyone ever do this

I agree with Mark about the iron weights. They are easier to handle and generally they won't harm your animals if you are careful. :-) I just don't see the point to using fluid ballast that does not have a high density.

I have large R-4s on my tractor, so handling them myself is not an option. I routinely run over cactus out here in the desert and it hasn't been a problem yet. My tires are loaded with calcium chloride to the top of the rims. Between the tire, rim and ballast, they weigh a lot more than I want to handle by myself. With the iron plates, you can take them off as you need to to fix a flat, and when there is no fluid in the tire, you can fix the puncture yourself if you want to.

Well, the dealer installed the lights (2 55W on top of the ROPS and 1 35W on the rear fender). We talked about it quite a bit and he said they've mounted lots of 'em in those spots and they haven't had a complaint. There's enough wire in the harness they built to turn the top ones under the ROPS for summer mowing when I'm not likely to be using them. He said they thought about mounting them there, but when they tried it they didn't think I'd like it very well because the beam was pretty much straight out. Thanks all for your suggestions. (Hope I won't regret not mounting them directly on the blower, Murf!)

Cute looking tractor paint job! ;-) They wanted to paint the 15 4710's like that before the 101st took them to Iraq. Even tried to have the sewing shop make camoflage seat covers. They changed their mind at the last minute. I asked them "why would you paint a forest camoflage pattern on a tractor you are taking to the desert?" The response was oh.....good point. The desert camoflage pattern looks evern worse. It is nice to see a little green color after months of deployment in the desert. At least it was for me when I went and stayed for about a year. John Deere makes a military Gator that is similar to that type pattern but is all dark OD green.

I'm not sure about the chipper's, but I have a 60" Befco box scraper and it is built very well. My dealer only uses Befco or Woods implements. He stated the quality of Befco implements was just as good as Woods. Since the quality is the same, they use Befco because they are colored similar to Kubota tractors. I think you should be happy with it.

Hydraulics do make a characteristic sound especially when they're cold. I don't know if you've operated the tractor in similar temperatures before but 'cold' may be the answer. If so, it's likely no problem but switching to an all weather hydraulic oil would help.

You may have operated the tractor during similar temperatures and the sound is worse since the loader was removed. I don't know if the loader valve was taken off along with the loader but here's a possibility of what's going on. If the valve was removed, then the oil flows through fewer orifices etc., which would make it run cooler and take longer to warm up. That idea could be tested by warming up the system and then working it hard--either with traction or repeated heavy 3ph lifting to see if the whine goes away faster. If the loader were on, the bucket could be curled back and held to force the relief valve to open.

If you are willing to work 18 - 24 hours a day, go for it. Bieng self employed is great and terrible all at the same time. One of the joys of "doing your own thing"is that you will not be limited on how much work you can do. There will be no boss telling you to go home because he cannot afford the overtime. You will work cheap. Your employes will make more money than you will at first. You will realize just what it cost to have an employe. You will also realize how valuable a good employe really is to you. You will make the decissions, you will put your neck on the line, and if you do it correctly, you will reap the benefits. (and there are many).

Welcome. Our resident Yanmar owner/expert retired some years back but there are participants here who know Yanmars and maybe KE140's specifically. If not there is a lot of general expertise here, and tractors and equipment all works about the same so we'd be of help unless questions are very specific. Well, sometimes we're given to undertaking some research to answer specific questions too.

It's sort of funny that I grew up never thinking about how a lot of the farmland in the Netherlands was created. I had vague ideas about dikes. Just a couple of weeks ago I was looking at a map of W. Europe. It looks like the Netherlands had something like a long thin offshore island along its coast and the gaps were filled in by these fabled dikes. Ah ha I thought so that's how it was done and wondered why it took me to advanced adulthood to figure it out.

We use Dello. Rotella is a fine oil. Moble Delvac is another option.
I do not recomend the use of oils such as Quaker State, Havilene, or any other oil that is sutible for a gasoline engine.
The most important thing to do is to CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER. Be sure to change the hydraulic oil also. The hydraulic filter is to be cleaned, not replaced as the engine oil filter is.
Please use a belt type filter wrench on the hydraulic filter, and place the belt as close to the top of the filter as possible. Note that the "nut" on the filter case IS NOT to put a wrench on... It will break the filter case.
Use a high quality hydraulic oil such as John Deere 303 for the hydraulic / transmission. We DO NOT purchase ANY lubricants from a mass merchant. Go get the real stuff, it will cost a few pennys more, but in the long run you are dollars ahead.
ALL lubricants will need to be changed at the first 50 hours of use. This is critical. Thereafter - change the engine oil every 50 hours and the hydraulic every 350 hours. Change the antifreeze yearly.
If you have a front end loader on the machine .... be sure to give all pivot pins a shot of grease about every 4 hours uf use....Grease is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. Parts are not.

I was able to help a guy with his Kubota L245 much like the way Tom is saying. He put the tractor front end up against a short wall and and was able to break the clutch loose this way. I would use a good bit of caution doing this. I did not see him do it but he told me that it worked and was very happy he did not have to break the tractor in half.

Murf, were delivering a 4330 gst and a fransgaurd 4000 winch within the next day or two. These fellows make there living beause of the small tractor and not tearing up the woods. They normally do what is called a slective harvest so the woods regenerates itself quicker.

In addition to cheif's suggestions, it is a good idea to remove the belt shields when taking the deck off for the winter and cleaning grass and debris from under them. Grass clippings, especially if they get wet, are very acidic. Keeping the top and bottom sides of deck clean will lengthen the life of your deck.

I have to say I did seriously consider this model. You get allot of the tractor features in a small package, but what finally had me step up was the limited Cat 1. There are attachments that you either can not get or have to get special i.e. post hole digger with shorter arm, due to the hieght limititations on the 3ph. Also limited on Tires, it was turf or a bar ag, which for all intensive purposes is rather agressive tread for this size tractor. For the price to step up to a full Cat1 just made more sense for my needs. If it were not for the horses/pasture/ Honey do list. I would definitely look again
