I looked at Corriher a couple days ago and then again last night, My concerns were would I be saving when I had to pay shipping, but if they shipped to MI for$600 I may have to look again. I talked with two relatively local NH Dealers. Both do NH and Kubota. One really pushes the Kubota and didn't carry any of the smaller NH. TC 30 was it. He didn't even want to talk about NH. The other I only talked with on the phone and he was by far the best to deal with. Very forth coming on all issues and all tractors. I am going down there to look at a TC21 (Used) and at that time will talk with him about purchasing else where and having them for Warranty work. Just to get a feel. Thank you for the feedback. That really give me another option I wasn't to keen on. How long after you made the deal did they take to deliver? I am not in a rush. Just curious?

That is strange when you consider the incredible gas pump nozzles used in California to keep people from drizzling any gas on the ground. Maybe the diesel jug was for that unleaded diesel, or maybe it's only for California super-low sulfur diesel, or maybe it's only for road diesel. The possibilities are endless, but it's probably just the usual corporate dumbing down in modern times.

Yep, I figured those whistles might be playing loony tunes. Either that or it a way to train deer so they can record Bing Crosby Christmas albums.

The solution I like best is a sign I saw in Michigan. It said 'DEER CROSS HERE.' I wondered how many people the state'd have to hire to teach them how to read. Well, that might have made a dint in the unemployment rate. Or maybe it was just a production idea for a local road kill market.

When I was a kid, a bull elk in a zoo charged a fence where I was when I whistled to attract a friend. Elk are being introduced around here so maybe I don't want those whistles. Also don't know what they do for the bear and moose we have here. Now those really make a mess of cars and the people in them when they're hit.

I think you're are starting exactly the right place. Far as I'm concerned the major brands and some of the grays all make fine machines or at least make them right when there are problems. The prices aren't much different (particularly when any differences are spread over decades of expected ownership).

What that leaves is that the two most important decisions when buying a tractor are how comfortable it is and how you get along with the dealer. A good dealer will ask the right questions and do a good job of matching needs to budget and come up with solutions for most needs. However, they can't do much about how their products sit for an individual, so how it feels is a good place to start. Dealers may have a few solutions for comfort problems such as after-market seats, so I'd ask if I really liked a tractor otherwise. Lack of comfort and awkwardness also can equal safety problems so I wouldn't ignore them.

Be sure to check out the American Jawa very well. then check out Kukje. (the manufactors of Branson, Century and some John Deer) If you do your homework correctly, you will discover that a public announcement will be made concerning the buisness relation between American Jawa and Kukje.
As Century fades out into the sunset, It will require you to go to the Branson dealers for parts and service.
The Branson tractor is an exclent machine. I've been selling them for about 5 years now and have yet to see the inside of an engine, transmission, or gear box. My best seller is the 2810 with a Tass loader and industrial tires. I have two 40 horses setting on the lot with loaders and quick disconect buckets. I would be glad to talk to you about these machines. I have a few machines that I have sold down there in your area.

You should ensure the forks are rated for the weight but also be aware that the 3ph may not lift them even if they weigh less than the 3ph rating. Ratings usually are defined as 2' behind the link pins. The load may be centered further back depending on fork design, loading etc.

There's little chance of breaking the 3ph or tractor just lifting. Most will lift more than the rating and the relief valve should open before something breaks. You may need a bunch of front ballast and then damage could happen when transporting a load and hitting a bump. Stability and stopping also may be problems.

How cold is cold? Here in north texas the temp will sometimes get below 0 degrees. All the cold weather starting problems that I have encountered on new equipnent (up to 5 years old) have beed attributed to poor preventative mantanence. Service the battery,(check the water) keep the cables clean, tight, and properly pre-heat the glow plugs.. it will start.
For the much colder climate up north... Please consider the use of a lighter engine oil, block heaters, and put it in the barn. The owners manuel or your dealer will be able to help you there.

I've always said snow is for playing. I look fwd to lots of snow to play in.

Some people might think someone is a little off when they jump for joy to go and play in snow. Slide down hill on it, push it around, blow it, slide down it some more...

We're only getting a inch or so of it here but already have 6+ on the ground from a week ago, Lake effect stuff.

I owned a L175 for may years. These are really well built machines. I don't think it really compares to the newer tractor because the new ones have so many new features. Power steering, 4 wheel drive ect.. The L185 has a 2 cylinder 18 hp engine, the BX is 24? . An L185 would serve you well depending on your needs and budget. Depending on where you live I would think the Kubota might have a better parts network than the Zen-Noh. I will tell you parts for old Kubotas aren't cheap either. Shop around, research, good luck..

Waco, you'd have to define "better buy". Orange and Green are both good, reliable machines. If by better buy you mean cheapest price, then the lowest price may be the best buy as long as it meets your needs. It's important to be aware that buying from a crappy dealer or an out of state dealer has hidden costs, and in those cases the lowest price isn't always cheaper in the long run. As always, dealer support, features, and ergonomics play a major role in a decision.

There is no one "best buy" for everyone.

I bought an IM502 (5') cutter with slip clutch for my JD4310 to chop up brush around my house. I really like it. So far I chopped up 2 large brush piles. I payed $850. I have yet to see a web site for the manufacturer. However, I like the product.

The comments about trailoring tractors is useful and gets at the issue. It likely wasn't in response to my comment about roading my tractor, but by 'roading' I mean driving it along public roads. In my case it's 10 miles of 2-lane highway with narrow shoulders in places, bridges and a lot of transport traffic. There are issues here and it's not something I want to do regularly whether or not there's insurance.

I suppose a local trucker we know might give me a lift on a flat bed along with some of his equipment sometimes and that would solve the liability thing that I'm not sure about.

Those of the sorts of questions I had in mind. Some of the questions probably don't need to be asked if the hydraulics guy is at a NH dealer. If the tractor hydraulics are going to be used, it's an open centered system. The pump flow, reservoir and system pressure would be manual lookups if they weren't known off hand.

A couple of things might complicate putting together a system. The first is that the description only seemed to mention changing the lift to double-action. I suppose it could be done but it'd be far easier to find a valve assembly where both control valves were 4-way (for double-acting cylinders). That would mean changing the bucket cylinders as well. If you're getting a valve assembly that has a set of operating handles instead of a joy-stick a three section valve could be purchased for not much more and that would provide a rear outlet.

Another thing to think about is if a power-beyond setup is feasible. In this context, PB would allow the loader and 3ph to be operated without changing a diverter valve. It does require a valve assembly that's PB rated. It's sort of a nice feature to have but I'm not sure how easy it'd be on a 3000. I don't think their auxiliary system outlet (you're calling it a drop I think) has a second port for return oil from the loader valve, which is the easiest way to plumb a PB hookup.

While you're talking to the NH dealer you might ask if there'd likely be any structural problems from converting the loader to double-acting cylinders.

I was at the Kubota/NH Dealer yesterday and asked the very same thing. The dealers response was that the 7800 and 2910 are the same tractor as far as Engine/frame etc. It is the bells and whistles ( nothing really more then Cosmetics ) Arm rest/ More plastic covers on both sides of the seat ETc Etc. The 2710 is the same senario with just a little less HP. They consider these the Deluxe ( as I understand it) Oh yeah and the 7800 I looked at did have Cruise Control.

I guess they have finally made their way around to the full size pick-ups. A few years back it was the S-10's, Rangers, and Dakotas; then they went to the SUV's. My wife bought a brand new 89 S-10 before we were married with no AC or 4X4 but with 3/4 ton payload and 4.3 liter V-6. In the snow with that big V-6 it is nothing more than a sled. On dry roads it will squeal tires going from first to second gear and it is an automatic!!! The Suv's kept getting bigger and bigger and more and more engine. I've got the Explorer with V-8. I think I am ready for a new truck too!!! I guess I better wait a while since I just got a new Kubota or the wife will be kicking me to the curb!!!!!
