John, I currently have a 4 foot Landpride bushog (model 15-48) hanging off the back of my little JD 750. I was amazed at how well it can cut a level lawn, and the pastures. It cut just great with new blades, but even after dulling a bit it still cuts fairly good. In fact, it cuts as good my father-in-laws Toro or Ex-Mark finish mowers and looks just about as nice. Of course, the ground has been pretty hard lately due to no rain, so the ag tires have not been a problem. So, I think that if you consider getting a good four foot bushog, you can get just as good results as with a much more expensive finish cut mower IF you get your yard graded reasonably level. A five foot will not cut quite as nice since it won't be able to follow the yard contours as well. <br>Good luck....<br>Keith

This is my second message on the subject. I'm looking a 2 tractors to replace my JD950........ a JD4600 and a Kubota 4310. I have had my 950 for 10 years and have never had a bit of trouble but now I'm tired of shifting so I want a hydrostatic. I wanted to get another JD but I find the overall quality of the new JD 4000 series to be horrific. The entire housing and fenders are fiberglass where as the Kubota is metal. Does anyone have a comment on the durability of these tractors ?? I do like the hydrostatic set up on the JD better. Does anyone have an opinion on the 2 pedal system (JD)vs the feather touch ( Kubota ). <br>Thanks,<br>JMO'D

Dave, just recieved my mf 1225 5ft finish mower,(50' tiller and 5ft blade comeing soon) I also have a small yard and it takes a lot less time to cut hydro on unit is nice forward and reverse very easy with it looked at jd and cub found MF a solid unit with all metal. engine is 23 hp 19 hp pto. I started looking at jd4100 and MF 1215 dealer had 1225 in stock said with tiller i would want more horse than 15 pto. Its a dream might look funny on small yard but when the snow flies it will look just a bit smaller. whole package 1225/mower/blade/tiller 16k. but pick a dealer close who has been around, if you need something it will not take a day or longer to get it. central pa

Yep! I priced turfs and got 350 per tire plus 100 or so to mount and fill and that is with out rims.

i have owned 4 yazoo mowers over the years. for strictly mowing they are virtually unbeatable. ihave also had jacobsen, toro,grasshopper, exmark and others. i would hesitate to recommend yazoo for snowblowing due to the traction problem. for mowing around trees yazoo is the way to go

I've had a L2550 for 4wks now, it has turf tires which I plan to change to Agri maybe sooner than I think! Are my front tires supposed to spin when the rear ones do or is it some kind of assist 4WD.I took the front wheel drive shaft cover loose and the shaft engages when the 4WD lever is engaged so I would assume if there is a problem it's in the front axle. How would I know if it's working other than putting it on a lift, it's my first tractor as you probably guessed.

You are right, mine has an electro-mechainical switch. It is a lever type with a roller at the end. It operates off of the right side three point connection. Mine bolts up to sheet metal at the rear of the tractor.

You proably need an engine from a 2243 since this is what seems to match up closely to the 1710 Ford. Do not assume a grey market block will bolt up to the 1710 Ford tractor. There can be very minor differences that make a big difference. I am not saying this won't work, but we are a grey market dealer and we've been there and done that. What some times looks like it will work just won't. There are differences in axle locations and so forth that might result in different mounting holes in the block. Good Luck

For what the benefit of experience is worth..... I operate a commercial landscaping business in which we use a small fleet of compact's (presently 6 of them), and they operate 12 months a year. I have tried every make out there over the years, and even operate a few customers equipment for them. Without a doubt, there is no beating a Kubota, period. Some features on other machines may seem more convenient, some spec.'s may look more impressive, BUT, after at least 25 machines, over 15 years, and probably 125,000+ hours in total, I wouldn't hesitate to recomend or buy another Kubota. I know I will be flooded with comments over this but, its like trucks, they all work, what works for YOU is whats important. I have only had ONE breakdown in all that time, an injector pump.

The 185 is a good tractor. I had one of the Grey Market counterparts, an L1501 Kubota. The price seems a little high though. That particular model was built from 78-82. I looked it up on Farmers Hotline and they listed the average price by year at anywhere from $5927 to $8199 and the bank loan value at $3942 to $5375. I hope this is some help.<br>Brent
