I'm considering buying a hst L3430 with Loader and backhoe. What other options/items should I consider and what would be a good price? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Well at least you should feel better now Harvey. ;-) If have my moments blowing off some steam as well! I can definitely see your point of view with respect to inspectors. I would like to see what their houses look like and if they follow all the codes to the T?

He if ya'really don't like em' you could always send them a little closer but still south...how's Orange County, NY sound?

I am sure there are some lemons in the bunch, but then again my JD guy has some Kubotas sitting in his yard, wonder what they were traded for?? ;) He keeps the used Kubotas along with a Ford and a new JD at a roadside display a 1/4 mile from the retail location.

I bet it's not that rare for the bad JD's to end up at Kubota or NH, MF etc. and it probably works in reverse as well. People feel they'll get better trade in on the old stuff if they buy at the same time. They aren't happy so they try something else. Your also probably not going to get great trade in value at the JD, Kubota, MF, NH, etc dealer if he's the same guy you've been battling with and trashing the machine to for a couple of years :o

I heard a rumor, to sweeten the deal you make them take a 12 step "JD Anonymous" program and in return give them another $500 off on an Orange machine :) :)

It's like pickup trucks,if I make a few phone calls I can get you a bunch of guys who swear Dodge is the worst. A couple of more calls and my anti-Ford and anti-Chevy friends will swear that those brands are terrible. Sometimes 5 years later and they've switched sides????? Were they wrong and now they're right? Probably not, it just depends on your last vehicles performance.

Gearmore sort of high-grades the tractor market, getting the best they can find in any particular category and then has the item re-labeled with the Gearmore name.

All that to say this.... it's some of the best stuff you will be able to lay your hands on....

In terms of prices, sometimes Gearmore is the deal of the century and sometimes not.

I haven't comparison shopped for mowers and I am making the assumption here that you are speaking of a mowing deck for your three point hitch. I would say that any decent quality, three point implement with moving or spinning parts for $850 (delivered) is probably an ok deal.

I just got a three point hydraulic log splitter for $750 and a three point PTO driven generator (with a new drive shaft) for $1800

What defines a CUT is it's versatility and ability to perform many task with many differant attachments. Many times other machines less versatile can perform a specific task better but, are limited from other uses. For example I use chain on bucket forks, for the several times a month I use them they work great. If I had to use them to load and unload trucks all day they would not be so great.Obviously a skid steer or forklift would be better. As far as digging goes, you can dig with a FEL but I found technique and a tooth bar make a big differance. I had to burry some large boulders so I tried to dig a hole after about an hour I had dug about 18" deep. I called my brother who does this stuff for a living, he came over with a tooth bar and in about the same amount of time had a hole big enough to burry a car in.

I'm not sure there's any more than one key for mid-80's Ford either so it's not a new thing.

Keys are probably intended more to keep kids from playing than to prevent theft. A thief isn't likely to start one and drive it away because they don't go very fast and would be pretty noticeable. I imagine most stolen ones go into enclosed trailers.

When I leave mine at our camp (ten miles down the highway) I chain it around the rear axle to 3/8" transport chain that's wrapped around a buried 12" x 12. I figure I'm not going to defeat any thief that's organized enough to get a trailer into a meadow and have a chain cutter big enough to cut the chain. Nobody's going to pull or dig the timber out with the tractor sitting on top of it. The arrangement is good enough for my insurance.

So Denver still uses those things--wonder if they're still yellow? I remember seeing one laying in the street not long after they first were used and wondered how it got there.

This may or may not be of help, either way, thatnks for bringing back a good childhood memory for me.
One of the houses I grew up in had the same problem with crawdads. There was an underground stream that ran through the property and the water table was just below the surface. You could actually look down in the holes and see water about 8" under the surface except during the dryest of times. The crawdad problem wouldnt go away until we put a drainage tile around the upper part of the ground which deverted the stream away.
The part about the crawdads that I remember best is going out at night with my freinds, a flashlight and a small homemade noose on a stick. the crawdads would hangout just below the surface or comeout to rebuild their mounds after I would mow. When we would shine the light on them, they would freeze and you could lasso one of their front claws. by morning, we would have about a half ucket full. We never ate them, just let them go in the creek down the street.
I guess Im saying, if its not feasable to improve the drainage, get yourself some kids and flashlights.

We just had a dealer open in Niles, just south of Auburn, NY. They have scads of little Red tractors and a whole lot of vermeer stuff and some others.

So the parent companies explains the diverse lines of equipment there.

I bought my 97 1725 (comparable to a TC29) with a 7308 FEL and a land pride tiller for $11,400 with only 190 hrs on it! It still had nubbins on the turf tires. Was this a smokin' deal or what? I did trade the wheels/tires in on R4's at the dealer for $400.<br>

My dealer wanted 15,300 for a new TC30 w/7308 FEL- way too much $$$

Sounds complicated but it is easy in practice. You remove the three point hitch arms and the top link. No tools required, just pull some pins.

Then the sub-frame slips unto the bars vacated by the hitch arms and slips into some brackets under the engine. You slip two large pins into the front brackets and plug in the hydraulic lines and you are ready to dig.

With practice the whole transition is under 5 minutes.

It takes about as long to detach the backhoe and re-assemble the three point hitch arms.

When i was looking for a tractor i looked at the big 3 as well as some others including Mahindra. The Mahindra dealer was closest and the most expensive! I didn't have any experience with them nor knew anyone that did. I did operate one for a short period & it seemed to perform fine. I just couldn't see paying more than i would for one of the better known brands. The dealer seems to be doing fine in a small town. He's moving to a new, larger facility soon so evidently he's selling them pretty well.

I used my leaf blower and it worked great. The pile was still pretty green and wet and if it wasn't for the blower, I wouldn't have gotten the pile to take off. The area was pretty wet so there was no fire danger. I was trying to get another pile going with no luck, even after "accidentally" spilling a bunch of diesel and used oil on it. The neighbor brought over a weed burning torch connected to a 5 gal propane tank with a "turbo blast" lever that makes an enormous amount of heat. I blasted it under the pile and it took off. The pile had frost on it!

I later picked up one of those weed burners at harbor freight tool for about $18.
