Mine doesn't sputter at all on start up even well below 0F. Of course I use a block heater for a couple hours at those temps.

You might try using a little more hand throttle for starting. More throttle is sort like a diesel choke. It keeps the fuel delivery higher until the engine rpm increases. Mine just takes off and I back off the hand throttle to about 800 rpm for a minute or so and then up to 1500 until the temp starts coming up.

I have been under the assumption that a FEL is not really meant for digging (penetrating un-tilled ground). Is this so? Unlike a skid steer where the arms rest against the frame of the machine when they are in the lowest position, a FEL has no support like that and the typical arm is "bent" over the front wheel which is a weak point when trying to push forward.<br>

After loosing out on a Kubota loader attachment last nite on eBay, I am determined to design and build my own loader (I am a mechancial engineer with an extensive home machine shop so there's not much problem here other than time). I don't see why I couldn't have the bucket rest against the frame when down. I am also thinking of putting a quick attach plate on it so it can take skid steer attachments. Just think of it-all the 3-point attachments for the back AND all the skid steer attachments for the front---my back yard will be covered by attachments.

Swapping things isn't too bad and gets easier with a bit of practice. The main tools are: some blocks to sit things down on so they stay in place and don't roll, a prybar so an implement can be levered around a bit to line up holes and maybe a bottle jack for the same purpose. Implements tend to tip foreword or backwards when they are removed and good blocking keeps them pretty much ready to go back on the same they came off. I'm happy I hung on to my hoe's shipping pallet. Now I just sit the hoe back on the pallet and block up the bucket. The hoe doesn't screw back onto the pallet after it was fully assembled but I added a crosspiece and now the hoe sits in the pallet nicely. There are a few tricks to swapping 3ph implements.

When I removed upper arm loader pins to replace the grease fittings I found that a fat drift punch was useful for aligning holes from one side so I could start the square ended pins in the other. None of my drifts were right and I ended up using a 3ph pin. If I had done a good job of blocking I probably wouldn't have needed the punch. Taking apart the loader arms probably isn't required for just removing it.

stores carry them.Here in Maine they run about 125.00/half day,225.00 full day.Maybe your neighbor has some as well?
I have owned and operated a stump removal service for 8 yrs.
I am on my second new 252,completely wore out the first one.
The trick in renting is a new set of teeth!!Just pull any rocks and dirt away,the width of a spade only 4-5 inches down. Do all your stumps before you rent it. You should be
able to do 4-6" stumps in less than a minute. I can do a 30" Oak 3-4 in. below grade in 20-30 min. Throw the chips
in the woods and put a bucket full of dirt in the whole and your done! No chains to buy, no back windows to replace.
A lot less disturbed area as opposed to pulling.

Thanks Art. I had the BX checked out at the dealership but they could not find anything wrong. It was a great tractor with good pulling power but it still ran a little hot mowing grass with only a 54" deck. I pulled a six foot core plug aerator and other implements with it with no problem. When it came time to rotate it out of my inventory, I decided to try one of the JD 2210s. Liked that tractor so much, I went back a few months into the grass mowing season and bought another one.

Mark What kind of a transfer switch system did you get?

I am fussing about one for the complete house or get one that has a seperate panel and just put the house wiring into that that I want for PTO use.

I am leaning very much in favor of the whole house concept. But have not ruled out back wiring and just turning off main breaker.

I just purchased a propane tip in place of acetylene tips. The victor model I purchased for propane is a 2 piece tip (compared to 1 piece for the acetylene).<br>

The other observable difference is the pattern of the 'holes'. The propane holes appear as little triangular shapes around the oxygen cutting hole (fluted tips), versus<br>
a pattern of circular holes around the cutting hole for acetylene.<br>
<br>
Also had to get type "T" hose rather than standard type "R" hose to use propane over acetylene (according to my welding supply store).<br>

Overall, it was still cheaper to use my propane barbecue tank than purchasing an acetylene "B" tank, even with buying a different hose and tip.

I just bought a used 1725. I wondered the same thing. It's kinda scary shelling out some big bucks for a tractor without any real proof that the guy you are buying it from really even owns it! I just got a bill of sale and the manuals.

Sometimes if you are really lucky and the moon is 30 degrees on the horizon; lightly tapping on the carb. with a screw driver handle of some other object not likely to over do it or damage it will jar a stuck needle valve or float loose. If you get it running this way; take it out and run it for an hour or so doing something like mulching leaves or something. Add a can of Berriman's B-12 to the gas tank and refuel with gas treated with Stabil and run some more to run the carb. cleaner and fuel stabilizer through the carb good. Plan on rebuilding or replacing the carb. if this does not help. In the future ALWAYS put stabile in your gas to prevent gum build up and I periodically run a can of some B-12 through the carb. It usually works great. I use it on my boat after winter storage as well and treat the boats gas with Stabil. Also make sure to put the throttle in the full choke postion to prevent any debry from going into the carb, remove air filter and check for crub build up from crank case breather. Mine was filthy when I checked it on my F-525. Just be careful not to let any drop into the carb inlet when you clean it up.

I would go with the loading dock or ramp. That would be your easiest and safest bet. Worst case if you are left with no other options might be to use a 3/4" plywood ramp reinforced with 4 x 4's. 4 of them as stringers like Mark mentioned should be plenty to hold the weight of the tractor but take it slow anyway to see if it will support the load. Depending on how high the truck bed is, a plywood ramp may not be long enough to make a reasonable boarding angle for the tractor. Good luck!

The pto cover I got looked like a giant bottle nipple and was made out of some kind of composite material. Had twist lock tabs on it to latch onto the pto little ears sticking out around the pto. I got the value based price from the Deere dealer (free). There are provisions for a pto cover on the mid and rear pto on my 4410. Although I would say the rear really does not look like it needs one.
